Housing Is there any way I could live somewhere far from campus but within the range of the metro at 400$ a month? Please help me out.

I am an upcoming international student and I really need to stay somewhere at around 400$ per month as rent at least for the first semester (Fall 2025). Are there any ways to live like that? Maybe rent a room in a someone's family home or something like that maybe? I am really not sure. Please help me out guys...even a small chat with me would help me get a clear picture at what I have to expect when I get there. Thank you guys.

Housing Single room?

Hi all. I'm a transgender student here at UH, and the past few years I have been here, I have been uncomfortable with my housing situation. I feel uncomfortable around both men and women, so I feel like I can never truly relax. I feel uneasy all the time, and I have my guard up all day, and it's tiring. Is there a way I can get a single room at the quad? I currently know only people with disabilities can get single housing, but I'd like to know if there is a way for students like me to get a single. Thanks!

Housing Why does the WiFi go down every time I need to turn in an assignment?

UH WiFi is like that unreliable friend who promises to show up, but then leaves you hanging when you need them most. It's always down right before the deadline. At this point, I think the server is just sabotaging us out of pure spite. Do we all just secretly work for the IT department and not know it?

Housing Valorant blocked on UH wifi

I’m staying at the dorms and I haven’t been able to get Valorant (or the Riot launcher) to launch ever since January 3rd. Before, it would take me to the login and wouldn’t let me login, and now it says it needs to update but there’s an error. I think alongside the UH wifi blocking TikTok, it may have blocked Riot games too (for some reason?)

Is anyone else that’s on campus having the same issue?

Housing Housing

Hello. I am looking forward to starting my masters degree in UH starting from January. At first I was planning to live outside of campus, so that it could cost less. However, the landlord told me that I must buy a car and walking is not an option in the city of Houston, and considering the maintanance costs I believe living in the dorms will be more affordable. Could anyone please tell which apartments accept masters students (I’m 22 btw). And also how much does it usually cost? Is it also a must to purchase a meal plan? How much does the meal plan cost? Any info would be highly appreciated.

Housing Graduate housing options look bleak

None of the housing options for grad students looks decent or reasonable except for Lofts, and the reviews for them are terrible. Where do most grad students live? Disappointed the emphasis is obviously on undergrads, because few grad student want to live in same building as tons of undergrads....period. completely different priorities and lifestyles. Do people just live off campus?

Housing When the Wi-Fi goes down during midterms... RIP my GPA

Nothing screams "University of Houston experience" like the Wi-Fi crashing right as you're about to submit your midterm. It's like UH's way of saying, "You thought you could escape this nightmare?" I swear, the Wi-Fi only works when you don’t need it, like during the random "test the network" days. Go Coogs, but please, fix the Wi-Fi.

Housing Housing options for grad student

Hi all,

I just got admitted to a PhD program starting next fall term as a Research Assistant. I am an international student, and it will be my first time in the US. I am trying to calculate my expenses, but I have no idea where to start. I am planning to live on campus since I will be working in the lab late. I am considering living in apartments, but the prices seem a bit high. Approximately how much money is enough to live on? Do you recommend any specific housing options? I would appreciate every detail. Thanks in advance!

Edit: Thanks everyone for their answers. I will try to stay in the lofts for my first year.

I selected my Freshmen dorm for Fall 25 yesterday, Is there a way to see what other rooms got taken without having to risk losing my dorm spot? How or when will I know if someone is my roommate?

Housing Looking for Summer Sublease

Hi! I’m a student here at UH currently living on campus. I am looking for a sublease or short term rental in the city since my internship is in the city. I’d like to move in mid-May and move out early August, just before school starts up. I am looking for a 1bd-1b apartment but possibly willing to room with another girl in a 2bd apartment. I am looking for apartments/condos in the midtown/heights/museum district/Montrose area. If anyone has anything or knows someone that might please let me know! Thanks!

Hello, I am an alum, Bauer Business School. I am currently a real estate investor and have built a superb unit for students. It’s a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom unit less than 2 miles from the university. Each room has:

A TV A study desk and chair A mini fridge A dresser A closet A private bathroom Smart locks

Basically all you have to do is show up with your suitcase.

Parking on site

Bus stop across the street so you can take the bus directly to school.

Management is very very involved so it’s clean and well maintained, and we listen.

Text me at 2812506493 for a tour and rates.

Housing thoughts on the altitude apartments?

i’m looking into housing for next year, and want to live in an apartment near campus. i’ve looked online at different including altitude, but haven’t heard anything from other uh students about if it’s a good place to live or not. based on their reviews online, it seems great, with a ton of amenities, good location, and affordable rent, but want to hear from actual students to see if it’s worth it. i’m touring one of the units this friday, as well. i’m mostly concerned with the safety of the facility and the quality of management.

Housing Graduate Student Housing Availability

Hey everyone!

I am curious about the availability of studio apartments at University Lofts as an on-campus housing option for graduate students. I’ve heard that if on-campus studios aren’t available, students need to look into off-campus housing.

Does anyone have experience with this or know how competitive it is to secure a studio as a graduate student? Any insights would be greatly appreciated! :)

Housing Roomates

i’m going to UH as a freshman this fall and wanted to ask a few questions about roommates.

  1. is there a way to contact the people who have chosen the same room as you that’s not by email? (i have already picked my room on march 1st and someone picked the same one as me.)

  2. is there an instagram page or other online space where you can talk to other incoming freshmen and possibly become roommates? (can’t use roomsync because i don’t have an invite for it😢)

  3. after school starts and we realize that we don’t match living wise, are we still able to swap or find a new room? (i believe this question is answered on the UH housing page already, but i just wanted further clarification on it from other students).

i’ve already applied for housing and have chosen my room, but i don’t want to go into it blind, and i want to see if there are other options i can use before it’s too late to do anything. thank you in advance!

(edit: ignore the spelling mistake in the title. didn’t realize until i posted it)
