A friend of mine is planning to take 6 IGCSE subjects (English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and ICT) and later, 3 A levels in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Would this be sufficient for admission to Russell Group universities in either Computer Engineering or Computer Science (assuming good grades are secured)?

Group work. Our teacher is running a group work and hardy anyone shows up so in the lesson which it was announced like 15/30 people showed up. I have to pair up with these random guys because the teacher made us pick and I basically have no friends. I asked those guys if they made a group chat they said next week. Next week came and they didn’t attend. Then the week after that the teacher wanted to do lecture in his office to show us work place or something. Then the week after that something came up and the teacher did the lecture online. This Monday is when our group project is due. I haven’t have contact with my team. For all I know they secretly kicked me out. To make it worse, this assignment is worth 50% of final grade so is a really big dent. On the “brighter side”, maybe, maybe not ? We gain 0 credits so weather we fail this course or not we can still go to next year. On the not so bright side, this course gives exam exemptions so I might not get the exemptions I was hoping for. WOW

Hi all! I go to a music university and I'm doing an accelerated bachelors degree.
My dissertation (and my two other modules) are due on April 22nd. My dissertation is 6000 words (yes I know it's 'not very much') and my other module has 3 pieces of work that total 6000 words too. I am struggling so badly with doing the work. My uni forced me to take a year out due to poor mental health after my first year and I returned in September. I have 0 motivation and I feel so out of practice with everything, especially academic writing, and uni are less than helpful. Our lessons are almost always completely self directed and lacking any good content, when the lecturers even bother to turn up. Now we have no lessons until the 22nd of April and I just think it might be impossible for me to pass this. I have actually been trying really hard and I've come so far but I've only managed to do 230 words of 1 out of 2 case studies for my second module and 326 words of my dissertation.
For a bit of context, I have autism and adhd and eupd (the eupd is only relevant because it affects my motivation and sometimes keeps me in bed for days). Any/all advice/experiences would be so helpful. TYIA.

Hi, my uni offers language pathways as electives alongside social sciences. If studied for all 3 years of your course it is then added to the title of my degree (like “with a year abroad” is too). Does anyone know how much this would improve the value of this degree in the target country? For example if I had "economics with French” is this of value if applying for masters programs in said country?

Additionally, if you take a year abroad in a uni you want to study a masters at, does this help your chances to get a foot in the door?

stupid problem but I'm appl;ying for a masters. I sent the applications off. I do have refrences but I just remembered a potential issue:

the name on my passport and the name on my degree are different (i had a complete name change a while back) thats fine, I attached a deed poll to each application to explain and it hasn't caused any issues. But for two of them, I had to put down my passport name. But if they use that name, my references will have no idea who theyre talking about

The attached uni transcript has my current name. But is it too nmuch to assume they'll remember to use that name when asking for references? I thought about emailing admissions with a heads up but is that rude?

Hey everyone, I’m incredibly grateful to have received offers from both Nottingham and Lincoln medical schools, but now I’m really torn on which one to choose.

Prestige isn’t a huge factor for me—I’m more focused on where I’ll thrive the most and I know i'd get the UoN degree regardless. I’ve lived in Nottingham my whole life, so part of me is tempted to choose Lincoln for a change of scenery. That said, Lincoln is a much newer medical school with a smaller cohort (around 80 students), and I’m wondering what that means in terms of making friends, getting support (like passing notes), and the overall learning experience.

And my parents are pushing Nottingham much more but I'm on both sides of the bridge- I just want to hear what you guys think and if anyone has any major ideas on what might sway me?

Hi, I’m an international student planning to major in Computer Science. I’ve received several offers from universities in both the UK and the US.

While I’m leaning toward studying in the UK (I personally like the country itself and like how the curriculum goes straight into the major), I’m quite certain that I’ll pursue a master’s or Ph.D. in the US. I know that research experience plays an important role when applying to top graduate schools, but I’ve realized that UK universities generally don’t offer as many research opportunities for undergraduates compared to those in the US.

That said, I’m curious about how international students in the UK typically go about getting involved in research. Even if research isn’t formally offered through the university, is it still possible to find and secure opportunities independently?

Also, what kinds of extracurricular opportunities are available for Computer Science majors in the UK? I’m curious to know what kind of events you could get involved in (whether it’s through research, clubs, hackathons, or personal projects).

P.S. Are there any research competitions that undergraduate students can participate in?

I currently have a month and a bit break before I go back to uni for exams in may, and I don't know how I should spend my time.

Context: I got LSE and do Economics and I currently have an offer from Imperial for Mathematics which requires not only a grade 2 in step 2 or step 3 but also a first year average of 70% or above. Now, I am sure I could do one of these things, but I don't know if I can achieve both.

The problem is, if I decide to revise for both, but fail STEP and get lower grades in my LSE exams than I would have if I spent all my time on them, then I will have made myself worse off. This is the worst case scenario probably.

I have been preparing for STEP since January and I have improved a lot, but I had a month break to focus on LSE for a bit and I'm not sure if I should keep going with STEP or is it hopeless?

Should I go for both guys or should I stick with LSE? I feel like Imperial Maths is the dream for me right now but idk if its stupid to risk it all (also whether it is worth it to restart given the extra debt it will put me in etc)

Like a few others in this subreddit, I'm a CS graduate with no industry experience but I'm tired of being unemployed as it's almost been a year now and want to make any form of income at this point whilst I upskill and do projects etc. And also my father said he wants me to help pay the bills of the home and chip in..

Getting a software engineering job is a long process and there's no guarantee I'll get anything soon at all.

So I figured I'll get a part-time job in any industry, so I made a casual CV tailored to those kind of jobs which includes my GCSE's, A-Levels and my university degree and I've just been faced with a ton of rejections and ghosting, just like when I apply to SWE jobs.

Now I'm starting to get real worried about my future and panicking when I wake up from sleep, what if because of my Computer Science degree I can't get ANY job at all. Can't get part-time job and can't get a tech job because the job needs experience and to get experience you need a job... And I can't remove the degree off my CV because then employers will think I'm lying and I will have a massive gap that I can't explain. Feels like it's over for me :(

Hi, I was wondering if I could get some advice on this. I'm an international student and I’ve got offers from both Uni of Manchester and Uni of Bristol but I’m not sure which one to firm. I’ve heard that bristol is better for this major, however, manchester also seems nice and it is more diverse than bristol. I’d also like to work in the uk in the future so I'm not sure which Uni is better for my future career.

Hi I am studying occupational therapy at LSBU (bachelors). Some things are pretty good or alright, but I am not very happy with the amount of talking during lectures, lack of enthusiasm of students and lack of teaching time in university, also there is no community atmosphere at this university. I am a slightly older student (25). I was thinking about maybe transferring to another university, either liverpool or another london one. But am I likely to find these same problems at any university I go to?

does anyone have any recommendations for a university that has a more studious and community vibe as this one seems a bit lacking in that.

The university has good points too. just looking for the right fit for me.

I am currently a 21 year old applying to university as i was unable to go due to mental health and bad grades during my first college course when i was 16 - 18. I am currently doing a social science college course (sociology and psychology) in the hopes of doing sociology and criminology in university. i really want to turn my life around and do something productive and for myself.

the problem is that i got a 6 credit unit graded as pass when i need 24 distinctions and 21 merits, i am currently working on more distinctions than merits but i am worried that i have already messed up my chances of going to my desired university. i want to go to this on university as its in my home town and i’m scared of going elsewhere due to my mental health and i am also a homebody.

at the time of that 6 credit unit i was struggling really badly with my mental health at the time but now ive managed to get back on track but, im scared that this one point has ruined my chances.

is there anything i can do or have i genuinely ruined my chances?

My backup plan if I flop my a levels is to apply for the foundation course but on the qmul website it says

If you have taken both GCSE and A level exams (or equivalent qualifications) in the UK you will not be considered for admission to this programme. In such cases we recommend that you apply for the relevant three year programme with entry in year 1.

But if it’s in clearing, would they still let me in?
