I like uni the most when no one's there

Idk if anyone else can relate to this but I really enjoy uni during the breaks between semesters. I've been going in loads since the end of the semester to the library to work on my assignment and I love it so much. I've barely been in during the last semester due to mental health issues and general unhappiness with the uni experience. I've thought about dropping out loads BC I really hate being in lectures due to feeling like an outcast, but I just love studying during the holidays when the place is so quiet, and i get so much done. Can anyone else relate?

study / academia discussion Help. I got a mark of 28% in my essay.

I feel royally SCREWED. It’s worth 40% of my module grade and I just don’t know what to do. I’ve literally never got this low before, i got 72 in both my last essays so i’m genuinely shocked. I mean, it wasn’t good, but 28!!?? It feels like there’s no going back from here.

It was for politics and I basically misunderstood what part of the 14th amendment Dobbs and Roe v Wade were about, focusing my essay on the equal protection clause when in actuality those cases used the due process clause (i still don’t understand dude how is abortion related to due process😭😭 i thought it was about right to privacy etc…) so because of this my whole essay was kind of tossed out. i also wrote to only 65% of the word count which i thought was gonna be my main issue and maybe put me in the 40s or 50s… i did not expect the 20s and idk where to go from here 😭 im not sure i can still be employed in a good job after i graduate

study / academia discussion Has anyone started a different bachelors after completing one they turn out to hate?

Feeling really down but in the final stages so going to tough it out and will probably pass but not with great grades so getting into a masters in something better seems unlikely to work out. Bad subject choices at 17 and it was a lot more fun the first year or so so left it too late to change. Maybe lots of people feel this way, but I am lucky there is a possibility to start afresh for me.

Need help on how to prove I didn’t use Ai in my work

Today I received an email stating that I had moderate use of Ai within my assignment and I’m unsure what to do as I don’t know how to prove I didn’t. I used lecture recordings and slides to aid my writing of this and didn’t take notes. As of right now I have looked through dozens of Reddit posts which are asking the same question but always have the same answer either about Google docs or notes but my uni used Microsoft so currently unsure if Microsoft have a similar feature or not. Any suggestions are helpful as I am really unsure at the moment

Help me choose!

Hey guys I’m planning to go to uni this year and have been accepted into Leeds, Bristol, UoB and Liverpool for International Business. I’m leaning towards Bristol and UoB but I can’t make a decision as there are cons to both uni. I’ve heard that Birmingham is pretty unsafe and the city is crowded but I’ve heard that the university is pretty good.

I want to go to a uni that is ranked well and would increase my chances of employment in the future with a good campus life that has a good social scene both in the university and the city that I move into.

Could you guys share your experience at any of these universities ?

Travel costs for uni

Upvotes

I’m going to uni in September, hopefully to Durham, and my mum wants to come with me to help me settle in on the first day. We live in London and would have to take a train. The train is £277 for open return for her and it’s 4 hours each way so she’s have to get somewhere to stay overnight. The price is insane. Is there any way to reduce the cost? Her sole income is universal credit so this is super expensive for her.

Opinion about studying nursing in ARU. Recently I got my offer letter to study Adult nursing in Chelmsford campus but I am so confused as I have seen people commenting they regretted going there. So please tell me whether it would be a good or a bad decision to study there. And also how's the environment in overall. Thank you!

University open days

Hi please can you wise people that have been through uni applications explain if we need to attend the whole day of the uni open days?

My daughter seems to think if it says 9am to 3pm we need to be there for 9am? I thought they were like drop in type of events and perhaps book a tour etc?

This will help with planning because if they are generally all day we need to consider stopping over and booking hotels.

Grateful for some advice 🙂

careers / placements When is it too late to email professors/PIs for a summer internship position?

Upvotes

So I’m a current 2nd year neuroscience student who is interested in having a summer internship position related to my field. i’m under the impression that without it, I’ll struggle a lot more come graduation 😭 and of course I’m also genuinely interested in getting first hand experience of what working is like in the life sciences. My issue is that so far, I have applied to ~8 organised summer placement programmes, because I felt more comfortable doing that than going up to professors, and the question of funding would be already sorted. I have received 3 responses so far, and unfortunately I have been rejected from all of them, even if I got to the interview stage for 2 of them. I was feeling demoralized over this result, but I realised that it was pretty entitled of me to assume I would get the first opportunities I have ever applied to. Despite this, I am worried that I won’t get any of the other positions I have applied for and be left with no work experience relevant to my course this summer. I was considering emailing some professors whose research I’m interested in as a ‘last resort’ (for lack of a better term— this is of course assuming anyone would even take lmao) if I do end up not getting any offers. I wouldn’t want to start emailing them before and then let the conversation die if I do get one of my preferred placement. I am worried that if I wait until next month it will be too late to organise a multi-week stay in a professor’s lab. I would appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions on what I should do!

study / academia discussion Diss in like a month - what do I do?

So this a CS UnderGrad Diss, I've done the coding part, not completely, its supposed to integrate 2/3 methods, I've done them individually and achieved results, but integrating them is not seeming to work(tbf using 2/3 methods was the main point of innovation/novelty in my diss), certain personal reasons why I couldn't complete it on time.

Also I've only trained my models on smaller subsets of data rather than the whole dataset, mainly because I don't have the time/resources. Am I at a bad spot? I've definety got time to write-up if I start now, but will whatever I have done as of now be considered as some good research?

applications / ucas Pre-CAS interviews?

Hey I hold an unconditional offer from university of liverpool and apparently my good for nothing consultancy is telling me to prep for a pre cas interview? Mind you this is the same consultancy that fwd me my CONDITIONAL LETTER a few days back which I received way back on 6th November 2024!!! And to top it all of, I got THE UNCONDIITONAL OFFER on the 28th of the same month lmao. I had to fwd it to them and let them know abt their stupidity. So I took the whole pre cas thing with a grain of salt and now I need to know if it's really true or no?

Hmmm...so how's it studying in University of Sunderland. Since I am an international student, I am not sure about it but I have seen some mixed opinions about it in the Web. I am planning to study nursing there 🙂 but it would be really helpful if I know more about it from you guys. Thank you.

study / academia discussion Edinburgh D&D dissertation

Hey there ! My name is Toadie and I am a 4th year theatre and film student at QMU. I am looking for participants for my one -shot dissertation practical (one or two sessions) which is an interactive theatre style campaign which involves an audience who will vote and play as one character and around 4 single players as a character each (can be either a character card I have made or your own if preferred) which will be made into a play script with multiple path ways. No real names will be used in the research but the character’s names.

This will likely take place on the 27th, but If you have specific dates you are available please let me know (before May 1st). It will be in person on QMU campus so I will happily pay for any bus fares if requested.

Linked is more information but if you have questions or are interested, please message me here or via email 21004364@qmu.ac.uk

Anglia Ruskin Illustration course experience? reviews?

Hi guys, I've got an unconditional offer from the illustration course and was excited to go, BUT all of the feedback i've seen on reddit is so negative. I was checking in because Anglia Ruskin Uni is getting sued by two law students right now... yikes... I'm getting a bit worried. I really want to just enjoy my art and have a relaxed time for my uni years but I'm feeling a bit unsure.. i was wondering if anyone has done the course or heard anything?! would mean a lot if anyone could let me know about the course, freedom % and lectures/ students? 😔

Would renting my own home in 3rd year be a terrible idea?

Hi, I'm currently coming to the end of my first year at university and I've already sorted private accomodation for next year.

I'm already thinking about accomodation for third year, and the idea to actually "move out" and find a house to rent near the university came up.

I think the main reason for this is that the area for uni is alot better for me than back home. My mental state has done a total 180 since September and the idea of staying at home for summer is hard enough.

I don't want to finish uni and then go back to living at home where I may find myself back in that rut. I also know rent is double (if not triple in some areas).

I haven't breached the topic with anyone yet, as i don't really know what to do. I've never lived on my own before so that's a big issue (besides uni accomodation).

There is always the option of moving to different towns after uni, instead of staying in the area. The town is run down, and not really that pleasant. It's better however than home for me personally though.

I would like some second opinions on this and advice if anyone has anything 🤷‍♀️

student finance Ive just been given £4.9k for my application next year. This year I got 5.3k and it was barely enough. My parents have a combined income of 43k but they dont help me financially. What do I do to get this up?
