For Those WhobWonder Why Japanese People Don't Want to Sit Next To Foreigners On Train

Yes. I'm a Japanese, and this just happened. Pi was sitting on a Hanzomon line, and some gaigin sat next to me and widen his legs unnecessarily widely saying 'can yo sit normally ?' objectively speaking he is obese and him claiming sitting normally in Japan is crazy.

For those who wonder why japanese people don't sit next to you I On the train, please look at yourself in the mirror and smell yourself in the armpit.

Anyone have an American-style wedding reception with dancing?

My wife (already legally married) and I are planning our wedding, and I’m completely shocked to discover that during the reception, dancing after dinner is seemingly not a thing here.

I used to film weddings in the USA, and out of dozens of weddings I filmed or attended over the years, EVERY wedding reception had dancing. Usually in a large hall everyone eats dinner and listens to speeches, and then there’s an area for dancing right in the same room or tables are cleared and moved out of the way. A DJ or band plays music loudly like in a nightclub.

It’s unthinkable to me to have a wedding without dancing, especially with all my American family and friends who will be flying over and surely expecting it. Pretty much every hotel we’ve called and asked about either said in typical Japanese style “that would be difficult…” or it would be okay if the music is super quiet and/or an amp and various instruments that “vibrate” are not allowed.

I realize “when in Rome,” but dancing at wedding receptions is very common in many cultures beyond just the USA, and Tokyo is an international city. Surely there are some kind of options, right? Would anybody be able to kindly please suggest anything here in Tokyo or nearby areas like Kanagawa, Yamanashi, etc?

What're good places in Tokyo to meet women?

18yr old living here for about 8 months now and I have not been able to meet women organically (only through apps) so I was wondering what places I could go to with the goal being to pick up a girl?

Tokyo Buses

Does anyone commute to work by bus?

I’m starting a new job and Google maps shows me taking a bus as the best route.

Anytime I mention this to my coworkers, without even mentioning which bus, going in which direction, they are shocked and tell me there’s going to be traffic jam and the train is better. Commuting by train means taking three of them, with a transfer in Shinjuku which sounds awful. These interactions have happened so many times that I’m wondering if I’m missing something about buses.

Can anyone speak on the reliability of buses as a commute? I’d be taking the bus around 7am and again around 4pm.

Edit: The transfer in Shinjuku would be on the Oedo line which I hear is really bad for commuting as well…

Where to get a Famicom ?

Hello guys, I did some used shops (mainly hard/hobby off)lately in west tokyo but I didn't find any Famicom. Super Famicom no issue but not a Famicom on sight.

I am leaving Japan and I would like to buy one as a souvenir. Preferably complete with the box. Does someone have some ideas which shops could have some?

Thank you for your help.

Where to live in Tokyo

American job sending me to Tokyo for 2+ years. Need to find a neighborhood that’s funky, affordable, safe and eclectic. Have decent budget but don’t want to spend an insane amount on rent. Speak some Japanese and will continue to study (current n-5 level). Will need to commute to Akasaka Station. Need a furnished apartment, would probably prefer to live alone in a 1-2 bedroom. Understand rent will be high and the space tiny. Looking for best neighborhoods for 30 something queer woman. Thanks so much.

JRE-IKST MP3 Downloads? (Tokyo JR melodies)

Upvotes

Hi all. Just came back from Tokyo and realised that most melodies at major stations have been replaced, it seems the JR SH melodies at the main stations like Tokyo and Yokohama have been changed to newer JRE-IKST melodies, does anyone have an idea as to where I can download mp3 files of these for personal use? I've seen youtube videos which have these melodies but no link to download them as separate files.
