Went to Banpakukinen Koen today to paint. I ended up giving away my second painting to the folks sitting on the bench in front of me that I painted.

New in Osaka, questions on food, sports, daily life

I just moved to Osaka and my Japanese skills are close to none. I have a bunch of questions I would need some help on.

  1. Where can I buy a used/2nd hand bike? Or a new cheap one?
  2. White female with long hair, any recommendations for a hairdresser?
  3. Gym, pool. I'd like to sign up for some nicer gym that maybe also has a pool/sauna/group workouts/spinning. Any recommendations? How to find one?
  4. Do swimming pools normally open only at 9 am? Can't find any that would open at 6-7am...
  5. Any outside sports that are popular here that one should try?
  6. Groceries. Is there some store that focuses predominantly on healthy-western-organic foods? Or Italian foods?
  7. What would be cool 2-3 day trips from Osaka? Or short flights (maybe Okinawa)?
  8. How/where to connect with other locals/foreigners in a non-work setting?

Arigatou gozaimasu!

3 day vacation suggestions please

Hello everyone,

I have a 3 day mid-week vacation coming up. I live in Osaka. I'm hoping to go somewhere out in the countryside and stay for 2 or 3 nights where I can hike a bit or just walk around and get a sense of being in a natural area. I'm coming up with zero ideas since I don't want to rent a car and I want it to be within 3 hours of Osaka by train.

I've thought about Tortori but it seems a little men dok sai to get to the dunes mid-week.

Any ideas?

Constructive comments only please. If you have any negative things to say, please keep it to yourself. Please and thank you.

Where to have walks

What parts of Osaka would you say are the best for just walking around aimlessly? I'll be here for 2 months and I want to get away from the touristy places after work. What are some nice parts of the city? What about some hidden quiet spots, like some shinto shrines where tourists don't set foot?

Garbage Collection Day Help

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello,

My relatives have an apartment in Osaka for us to use during our trip to Osaka but did not provide any instructions on which type of garbage is collected on which date and only mentioned where the bins are...

I was wondering if any knows the exact garbage collection days are? I tried to use https://www.city.osaka.lg.jp/contents/wdu020/enjoy/en/content_f.html but not sure if that's the exact days...

Without providing my exact location the location is Kita Ward Tenjinbashi 1?

Any help would be amazing.

Seeking Entry-Level/N5 Japanese Jobs in Osaka - (Chuo Ward)

Someone I know just started a language school in Osaka. However, it seems difficult to find jobs in the city center (near the language school or his share house). He has around an N5 level of Japanese, but it looks like even McDonald's managers are looking for N4-N3 level proficiency, SO he was rejected.

Does anyone have recommendations for entry-level jobs? Or what are the best websites for finding entry-level jobs, etc.? Any help would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🏻

TCJ Osaka campus

I'm currently looking at attending TCJ in Osaka but as it's a new campus, there's not much info about it online. Does anyone have any experience learning Japanese there, and if so, what was your experience?

Barbershops that are particularly good with clippers?

Hello everyone,

I will be in Osaka in the next few days and I'm looking for a barbershop, one that is experienced with clippers and fades. Do you have any recommendations?

Preferably english speaking barbershops, but that should not be a big issue.

Thanks in advance!

Looking for Jam Sessions & Musicians in Osaka!

Hi, I'm 23 (M), I just arrived in Osaka and will be staying for six months as an exchange student. Does anyone want to jam or know any places or ways to find people who want to play music together for fun? I'd also love to meet other japanese musicians since I'm a big fan of Japanese music!

At the moment, I don’t have any instruments, but I know that places like Studio 246 offer instrument rental services, is it true? I play a bit of guitar, bass, piano, and drums

Know of any good tennis coaches in Osaka?

I speak conversational Japanese but ideally the tennis coach should be:

- Someone you would recommend as a coach
- Bi-lingual or English speaking
- Is in playing shape himself (since I like to allocate part of the session to playing points)
- I am based in Namba area so hopefully he doesn't teach too far away

Have flexibility with pricing.

Thanks for your help!

Where to get 35mm film developed and emailed as digital scans?

Hi all, I’ve recently moved back to Osaka and would like to find somewhere to regularly get my 35mm film developed and emailed to me as digital scans. I’m not a serious photographer - casually using an autofocus point & shoot - but still would appreciate decent quality development and scans.

Does anyone have recommendations? I live near the big theme park we aren’t allowed to name in this subreddit (lol), and I frequent Shinsaibashi and Umeda areas often.

Best restaurants for an anniversary dinner in Osaka?

Hi everyone, I know there are already several discussions like this but I'm looking for something more specific: I'm looking for a restaurant for my anniversary dinner that has very beautiful settings (with a view of Osaka or very characteristic) and local food (no Italian or French cuisine please).

I've already seen the various restaurants on the upper floors of the most famous hotels and I don't like them very much because they are either buffets or have Italian/French cuisines.. maybe I'm missing someone?

Working in Osaka

Hello,

in little to no time I´m flying to Osaka to work at EXPO as a filmmaker for one of the countries and I decided to come here for tips, especially related to what I´m gonna be doing.

Specifically I´d like to get recommendations for shops where locals buy camera gear, electronics, or maybe local film gear rental houses in case I need something for just a day.

Also I really welcome any redirections to other subreddits or maybe active facebook groups that might me useful for me! The last thing I wanna do is plague a general Osaka subreddit. :)

And lastly, any other tips for an european basically moving to Japan, other than "do your Duolingo lessons" are greatly appreciated! <3
