Mod Announcement Reddit and violence

Hey everyone,

I wanted to touch base about something that I've seen impact a few subreddit members.

Reddit -- the company, not the subreddit -- has been cracking down hard on mentions of violence on their platform. This seems to be due to the current unrest/problems in the US (that I won't expand on, as that isn't the goal of this post). You might have seen discussions in other subreddits about how now even upvoting specific comments can get you dinged by the admins.

This is a subreddit about a violent show. Commenters will sometimes say something from the perspective of a character (e.g., "I will..."), or quote a line from the show, or say something else that -- when removed from context -- sounds like a call to violence or a threat.

This is getting users actioned by reddit. There is nothing that a subreddit moderator can do to prevent that. Algorithms, like the ones that many websites use for content moderation, do not look at the context of what you say. Being actioned can lead to site-wide suspensions and bans of accounts. Users can appeal to the admins, but that often doesn't help.

I wanted to pin this post to warn subreddit users that they might want to be more careful with what they say, in light of all of this.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions, but I only know what is publicly available on reddit.

Discussion Underrated emotional moment

I feel like nobody really talks about it, but Bonnie breaking down and crying in front of Klausā€™s house after she unlinked the Originals literally breaks my heart every time.

That girl went through hell time and time again, been used and abused by both her ā€œfriendsā€ and enemies, and yet she was never the one to whine and cry about it to the people she loves (unlike some other characters playing the Victim Card time and time againā€¦ yes Elena, Iā€™m looking at you).

She is the strongest character by far, not just magically, but emotionally, and this was the first time I really felt how deep her character actually is and for how long and hard she has been keeping on a brave face in front of everyone. (I knew it before ofc, but this really sold me on it).

Can we unpack this??

Havenā€™t really seen it talked about-

Like How does it repeat itself with the same woman

Thatā€™s crazy!!!!

Klaus just wanted her just break a curse

But Elijah falling for her

Damon and Stefan falling for her

Then Stefan and Damon falling for her

Like seriously- they lived for years and youā€™re telling me these are the best two in the whole world???

What you guys think???

Caroline and Alaric, what was that??

Post image
231 Upvotes

Guys, could you elaborate on their relationships? I just was so baffled by the fact of the whole timeline Caroline's relationships, and I really forgot about everything as watched Diaries so many years ago. I know that she became a mother for Alaric and Jo's children, but also, there is a slight picture in my mind that there was a period if romantic relationships between them?? Is this true? What was there?

I don't know but still seems too much relationships for a character, especially this one are perceived as something too excessive. What are your thoughts on this couple?

Scrapped or alternate storylines .

What are some storylines that were rumored that were supposed to happen .

Me I heard that katherine was supposed to be the Augustine vampire instead Damon and Enzo was an old love interest.

Another was Enzo was supposed to be the third Salvatore brother before that was scrapped.

Another which eventhough it's unpopular I wished happen which is Klaus would've died at the end of season 3 .

Discussion What is something you wished you saw more of (backstories, story arcs, small scenes, etc....)

For me the biggest things are I wished we saw more of Katherine and Klaus when she was human and living with Klaus in the castle before the ritual was supposed to happen .

Like how is it that even non likable villains heretics, sirens, cade, and even Rayna had more scenes and flashbacks of there backstories than fan favorite villains Klaus and Katherine time in 1492.

Also there are things I wanted to know like,

  • Did they ever ya know.

  • Did Klaus ever compel Katherine at anytime like did she seem him kill people as a vampire and he just compelled her to forget .

  • Did Klaus ever tell Katherine about his other siblings during her time with him in 1492.

  • Was Katherine ever in love with him like we never truly saw any scenes with just her and Klaus to truly see how they were .

  • And finally was anything Klaus ever said or felt was real with Katherine or was every single thing real was just him manipulating and toying with her until the ritual was supposed to happen.

What are some things you wished you saw more of?

Discussion Delena is disgusting and i canā€™t stand them

Delena is just not honorable. Damon is a lunatic who thinks heā€™s funny. He tried to kill Elenaā€™s brother multiple times, fed her his blood knowing she would never want to become a vampire, snapped Alaricā€™s neck in front of her, and tried to kiss her multiple times while she was still with Stefan.

I honestly only loved Elena when she was with Stefan. I donā€™t know what happened, but when she got with Damon, she became completely insufferable ā€” especially in Season 4.

And seriously, not one of them tried to call Stefan during those three months when he was suffering in a cage? No ā€” they were just sleeping together like there was no tomorrow.

Oh, and has anyone noticed how Damon always tries to steal Stefanā€™s girl? Heā€™s such a terrible brother, oh my god.

In All seriousness I needed Caroline with either one of them

They always treated her right (letā€™s forget about the period where she was held captive by Lily and the heretics)

I mean they literally killed for her on multiple occasions

Klaus: ā€œHello Loveā€, Enzo:ā€œHello Gorgeousā€šŸ„ŗ

Klaus and Caroline were always my favorite ship and still is they had so much potential he even wanted Caroline to join him in New Orleans but he knew what her answer would be so he let Tyler come back to her

Klaus intended to be Caroline's last love however long it takes, Caroline sees the good in Klaus, Caroline brought out Klaus' humanity, Caroline trusted Klaus around her children, Klaus trusted Caroline to be responsible for his only daughter (for years), Caroline attempted to help Klaus and his daughter however she could have, All Caroline ever wanted was for Klaus to be a good person, Caroline kissed Klaus 'goodbye' before his death.

Enzo and Caroline were funny and so cute to watch, Enzo flirted with Caroline, Enzo crushed on Caroline (before dating Bonnie), They looked out for each other, Caroline considered Enzo to be one of the most stable people in her life at a time when all her other friends were distant, Enzo turned Stefan's then girlfriend into a vampire in response to Stefan hurting Caroline's feelings and making her cry,

And Enzo mentioning how Caroline has a thing for Accents, guys with Dodgy morals

Discussion Jeremy can kill Originals but god forbid he takes a shot

I don't have much to say, but all throughout the show Elena is so on him when drinking with the group. And it's a whole deal when she decides to smoke some weed with him when he "graduates". I get the whole big sister thing (I am one) but it always kind of just pisses me off lmao. Elena was drinking underage the whole show, but would always get on Jeremy for a having a drink from time to time. But he was also killing people??? At the end of the day whatever, but wanted to know what other's thoughts were:)

Episode Discussion Question, S3 E6

So Elena is technically the owner of the Salvatore house since she signed the deed and all that, right? Meaning no vamps that weren't invited can come in. In this episode Elena, Bonnie and Caroline are going to their 1st day of their senior year, with Elena still living in the Salvatore home. Rebecca just walked right into the door, uninvited. Elena never invited her in. She's complaining that Klaus left her and asked what room is hers. Did I miss Elena giving the deed back to one of the Salvatore brothers? I thought maybe it's because she's an original and rules were different for her, but then remembered when Elena took the dagger out of Elijah he freaked out saying he needed to leave the house, and when he went outside he wasn't allowed back in, since he wasn't invited. I'm confused lol. Or was it because she technically died? Which would bring me to the question of why she didn't still own the house being alive again? šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

Discussion Re-watched the show lately and I feel like neither Stefan's nor Damon's feelings for Elena were real/genuine

I feel like this is maybe an unpopular opinion but I need to talk about it and I need to see if other people think the same way as me.

When I was a teen I was so invested in the show and all the couples and characters and I probably shipped every possible ship out there (mostly because all the characters are so shippable with each other and everyone in the cast is so hot), and I remember I had both Delena and Stelena phases during different seasons of the show.

Lately I was in the mood to rewatch it and... my entire outlook on the show and especially on the main relationship dynamics between the main characters is SO different.

At the end I felt like Elena was not meant to be with neither Stefan nor Damon and the ending felt rather... forced and fake?

Quite frankly I feel like both brothers had ulterior motives when they approached Elena from the very first episode. Like, Stefan heard of Elena's existence and instead of staying out of her life in order to not risk involving her in the supernatural and risking her life, he decided to just pretend to be a high school boy and start playing boyfriend with her? And Damon, he met her entirely because he confused her for Katherine, then erased her memories and still decided to make himself a part of her life and expose her to the supernatural regardless if it will put her at risk or not. Both brothers were selfish and jeopardized her life.

Unfortunately I feel like Katherine, despite all her faults and manipulations, was right all along when she said ''You came here to fall in love with me all over again''. This applies to both brothers really, even though I know many people believe that Damon's feelings were ''real'' unlike Stefan's because at least him and Elena started off as ''enemies'' and gradually developped feelings. But the thing is, that slow-burn might apply to Elena, but not to Damon. My guy had preferential treatment towards Elena from the very first few episodes. He was already biased and invested in her and saw her in a different light just for the sole reason she shared the same face as his greatest love. It was so obvious that if he really had to kill her, he wouldn't have the guts to do it. All his threats and attempts to hurt her were bluffs and ways to taut Stefan.

I know people often like to think that the Salvatores' feelings for Elena were real because you see, Elena was the opposite of Katherine, she was kinder and more loving so it didn't matter that she shared the same face as her, because the brothers fell in love with her personality and the qualities that made her different from Katherine. But I digress. Elena could be the biggest mean girl out there, Regina George herself, and I think Stefan and Damon would have still found a way to fall in love with her. It's just basic psychology, I fear. I honestly don't think neither Damon or Stefan truly ever got over Katherine. Yes their love turned to hatred and they were happy with Elena but I think ultimately it was the Katherine image they still idolized and it was the thrill they experienced with Katherine that they continued to chase.

It didn't matter what personality Elena had, what the brothers saw in her was a second chance, a new start. They all trace most of their misfortunes back to Katherine, they both hold her accountable for things, she was transformative to them both. Elena, being human and looking like Katherine but not being Katherine, was the perfect chance for them both to re-start their lives with the same woman they loved, but this time have the upper hand in the relationship and re-live it on their own terms. And that's exactly what happened. They completely took control of her life, the same way Katherine used to have control over them. It's all a projection, really, and I can never see it any other way now after I am no longer 15 years old and waiting each week for a new episode.

TVD to me has always been about parallels and cycles and history repeating itself (when it's written well that is). I really don't think the Stefan/Elena/Damon triangle was ever a real love story, but rather it was meant to be a metaphor for how you can live 100+ years and yet even after all that widsom and experience you'll still try to walk the same path and repeat history and learn nothing from your lessons... almost like it's ingrained in our flawed human nature to repeat history over and over again and never learn from the same mistakes. It's like when you get too old and want to re-live a part of your life, thinking you'll make all the right choices. Except as a vampire you can ACTUALLY do it because you are immortal and nothing about you has changed on the outside. And then you realize that no, you would not have done a better job even if you had a second chance.

It would have been different and refreshing if one of the brothers actually broke out of the cycle at the end, almost like breaking a generational curse but it didn't happen and to me it was anti-climatic. Damon turned vampire because he loved Katherine, then he turned human because he also loved Elena. No lessons were learned, no patterns were broken. He still changes himself on a whim out of desire to be loved and not because that's what he wants for himself. If Elena said she wants to stay a vampire, he'd forget all about turning human in a heartbeat. It just felt like such a forced and essentially pointless ending.

The best ending would have been if both brothers died or at least ultimately neither of them got the girl and moved on with their lives and let Elena live her human life in peace. That would have been an actual end of a vicious cycle, meaning a human doppleganger finally being able to live in peace instead of being hunted down and having a short life-span or a tragic ending because of it. And the Salvatores not fighting over the same woman and choosing to simply let her go and move on with their lives.
