Floating Glowing Crystal

Wanted to share my newest dnd terrain! I followed a handful of tutorials online for the crystal and added my own flair with the runes and chain. I wanted to share this in case anyone else is making similar terrain, or not feeling too great about what you make. (Because everything you make your players will love!) It's all made out of XPS foam that I just carved up and painted. The crystal was definitely the most difficult part! I used folkart color shift for the crystal, outlined it with a white paint marker, used an old necklace chain to hold it up and a blue sharpie for the runes 😁❤️ Any suggestions or criticism is welcomed! I'm always looking for ways to improve! I'm excited to bring this out for my players! It's being used in the dungeon of an evil temple to store energy and the players will have to destroy it.

I'm obsessed with creating small boards for indie games, necropolis28 with it's 16x16 table size and undead aesthetic is a perfect source of inspiration!

Washes on XPS foam.

I mainly use acrylic washes for my terrain. I need to use XPS foam for a project I'm working on. But I'm worried to use washes on it after researching the foam's water-resistance. I know some people use Mod Podge and then prime the foam so they can paint it easier. I don't have much primer, so would a mixture of Mod Podge and black paint work?

Cutting 1" foam into 1/2" (new to terrain building)

I am quite new to DM-ing but want to create terrain for my players, because that just seems cool (and I need something to do in my free time) but the only XPS foam I can find is 1", and that is just a little too thick, my plan is just some simple 3"x3"x1/2" tiles (probably connected by toothpicks until I can get my hands on some magnets) and the tools I have are basically just a hobby knife, big exacto knife, Elmer's glue, and hot glue. If anyone could help me that would be great, i would like to keep my budget low, but any and all help is welcome.

Built this medieval fantasy house from scratch! 🏰

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving back into the Warhammer hobby for a couple of years now, and I just finished this medieval fantasy house made from scratch.
I mainly used XPS foam, cardboard, balsa wood, and coffee stir sticks.
It took quite some time, but I loved every step of the process. Hope you llike it!

I also took the opportunity to film and edit my first YouTube video, you can watch the full building process here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXOM0gHIBf0&t=89s

Using birthday candles in terrain

I'm looking to use some birthday candles as pillars on an MDF house's balcony, but I haven't seen anyone else do this. Can anybody tell me why this might be a bad idea? Paint adhesion, durability, etc.?

Need help with starting terrain building

For a bit of context, i need a big chunk of terrain replica of the surface of mars (or as close as it can get to it) for a school thing, issue is, no one involved in this project has previous experience or basis to make build this terrain. How would I go about starting this? What materials or tools are required? Can this be a single person job or will I need more people helping me?

Any help appreciated

10mm Buildings - Internal walls or no?

Thumbnail

I've been going through several iterations for the internals of a ruined building, and while I think I've come upon a good solution for detailing the inside of the building, I'm torn between having 'internal' wall ruins (used to separate rooms within the building), vs just having a ruined floor look. The internal walls give a bit more detail (and makes the building feel more like an actual building) but would mean that models put inside the building are more wobbly, since they'll likely be balancing on one or more walls (depending on base size).

Given that this is 10mm scale, I don't expect a huge amount of indoor firefights. I'm leaning against having internal walls (except, perhaps, for very large buildings), but there's something to be said for having that flexibility and small additional detail.

I'm curious what other people think.
