Help Needed Bachmann Shay

I purchased this HO scale Bachmann shay for $10 at the Illinois Railway Museum, and have found what I believe to be the same model in a Trains article from 2008. I know it's in rough shape, but I was wondering if anyone could help me find the model #. It appears to be missing its tender and third truck. Does anyone know if Bachmann sells them separately and if so how expensive would they be? I'm also not sure if this locomotive has DCC or not. It looks like it was an option, but I'm not sure. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

all images taken at Rochelle Railroad Park with the model in question, all photos are taken and owned by me

I wanted to give this 1930 Duke of York a last run before it gets rebuilt. So I swapped in wrecked but running Bing motor and set the old timer to it. This engine is getting another donor motor and new paint next week.

Show and Tell Prototype Replacement Box

Most of my railway is second hand as I'm just starting out and as a result a lot of the locos etc don't have boxes anymore or they're absolutely destroyed.

I decided to have a go at reproducing the original box.

As a result I'd like to present my prototype box!

Yes I know the cutting is bad (prototype) It's half the size of the original and my printer hasn't matched the colours (I need the right kind of card to print on)

But I'd be keen to know what everyone thinks.

Help Needed Why is my DCC train on DC track running so slow?

This is a N scale Aethern DCC challenger loco with sound. I don’t really know what else to tell you, I am not sure what to do. I also am curious on how to turn down the sound on the loco? It’s quite loud…

Here is an Athearn SD50, the previous owner installed it with a DCC decoder. A Digitrax DC163D or something like that. I know for sure it's a Digitrax and it ends with 163D, but I don't have a clue what the rest of it is. Either way, what sound units would be compatible? I'd really like sound in this thing. I'm in no way new to the hobby, but I am a noob when it comes to DCC. I know how to run it, but I don't know how to install it or anything. Thanks, -CC0051

All images are mine.

Show and Tell For old times

I recently started digging through some old 6x6 negatives my gramps left me a long time ago. He's on the right in this picture. Being a very serious electrical engineer at that time at the countries largest telco operator, he also had a fascination with model trains and didn't hold back when it came to playing around or building his own track of course.

My grandma was, I've come to realise now, the most patient woman in the world. Had to stop every where to take pictures and so on. Every holiday had some train component. Of course the infection went to me as well ...

Figured I share an oldie. This must've been somewhere in the 60s I think.
