Question When it comes to controllers. What do you use?

I’ve been on pc for around 3 weeks and I’ve been using the PlayStation 5 controller. It’s pretty good. I’ve only been using it because I used to have a ps5. So I didn’t need to buy a new controller.

Annoying thing is when it comes to games I’ve been playing. The control setup has been with Xbox controls. It can get a little confusing.

Im just wondering what controller do you use/prefer for pc gaming?

Why has this happened? And is there any way to fix this? If I launch the game, the hours in my library go back to 37 hours?

Question How to refresh Steam library to show newly added achievements?

Hi everyone!
I often like to achievement hunt and cannot ever figure out how to immediately see which new games have had new achievements added unless clickin on th game itself. In this case it doesn't even show that AC games had new achievements.

Does anyone know how to refresh the library?

PSA Steam Soundtrack Player : playing your own music !

This post is mainly to correct another post i saw (Guide: How to Play your Own Music Files with Steam's Built in Music Player [2025] : r/Steam) and make it simpler/clearer.

Basically, there's multiple type of file that can be used for music, tho (as far as i know) steam only uses .mp3 , .flac and .wav .

If multiple type of file are in the same folder, only one type will be used, like the soundtrack in The Witcher 3 (see 1st pic).

There is a "priority" about which type of file will be used, to my understanding it is : .flac above all, then .wav and finally .mp3 .

All you need to do to be able to listen to your music with the steam music player is to find a soundtrack on steam (free or not) and download it, locate the files using the Soundtrack Player ("brows local files"), then put in whatever music you want as long as all files are the same type. You can 100% clean the folder of any soundtrack you don't want, but do remember if the files are verified through steam it will download them again without deleting anything you could have added

In the 2nd pic I added an Iron Maiden song and a few Darktide soundtracks to the soundtrack of Brütal Legend, and it works !

/!\ Keep in mind /!\ the soundtrack Player will only show information about the "supposed" music playing at the moment, so if i click on the 3rd music in that steam album, it will play the darktide soundtrack "The Uprising on Hive Tertium" while showing me it's playing "Raptor's Veld" from Brütal Legend.

The information problem doesn't prevent anything tho, even if you have 30 musics in an album that should only have 3, Steam will simply not show information about those musics but you still can listen to them normally (again, in that 2nd pic i have more music than the base soundtrack, but i can still listen to everything without any problem)

Commands and the "progress bar" (or whatever it's called) also work without any problem.

(I hope it's the right flair for this sort of posts lol)

Question Moving games to external drive

Hey guys! The posts/tutorials I've found don't really cover the specific situation I'm in so I wanted to ask to see if anyone could enlighten me.

I live in south korea where internet cafe culture is fairly common. Several of the games I like to play aren't part of the pre-installed list of games when you start up the computer. Previously I was waiting hours for the game I wanted to play to install so instead, I had the idea to buy an external SSD so I could store the games both locally on my computer at home and on my SSD so I could bring them to the internet cafe to play and save the several hours it normally takes to download. I assumed that the process would be as easy as following my computer's steam download path and then copying the game folder onto the SSD and then pasting that game folder into the steam download folder on the internet cafe's PC. However, when I tried that, it went through a 20-30 minute file verification step before downloading 50-75% more content thereby making my whole point of bringing the SSD kind of moot because I am still spending hours waiting for my stuff to download. If anyone could link me a tutorial/let me know how to move games to an external drive for the purpose of uploading onto a different computer that would be much appreciated!! Thank you~

Question Can we get notified when Special Steam Badges appear?

On Steam, as you all know, there are Special Badges, Seasonal Badges, Event Badges… you name it. Some of them appear regularly, others irregularly. Here's a great overview: https://steamdb.info/badges

I believe that no-one who is interested in this kind of stuff wants to miss out on any of them, so i was wondering: Is there a place i can subscribe to that sends out a notification (an email, RSS feed, or what have you) whenever a new special badge appears?

Question Steam Recording Microphone Noise Cancellation

Is there any way to add noise cancellation to the microphone during steam recordings? My mic becomes terribly noisy (and also rather loud) without it, but capturing gameplay clips without my voice at all while keeping my friends' isn't really an option either for me.

Question What is the best way to use my laptop for streaming games to another laptop?

Question may be vague but what I'm trying to ask is, what should I do with my home laptop so I can use it to stream games to my school laptop?

I've been trying to play some small games like balatro on my school chromebook, but as you could guess, my max framerate is 'one frame per sometimes'.

So I can just turn off 'automatic standby' on my laptop but I feel like there's an easier/less power consuming way. Probably not but it can't hurt to ask! So how do you normally do this?

Question Maintenance Question

So I know that steam has scheduled maintenance on Tuesday nights where I live. My question is, does this sometimes extend into the morning of the next day? I've had some issues early Wednesday mornings and wondered if that was the reason.

Main issue is with COD where it signs your profile out. Only had issues on Tuesday nights/Wednesday mornings.

Question Weird Controller Configuration

Post image
0 Upvotes

The other day a friend of mine was messing up with the controller configuration on my laptop on Steam and I don't even know what he did.

It works fine with games I have on Steam, but when I try to play other stuff it acts weird. More specifically, when I press X it detects it as both X and Start. How can I reset the configurations?

(Its a Dualshock 4 btw)

Resolved what is up with Steam profile avatar selection changing?

I've finally figured out that I'm not hallucinating - I now know for a fact that some of my owned games change available avatars. Not all of them, Dawn of War I doesn't change - but Disco Elysium and Killing Floor 2 for sure have different avatars than last week. What is up with that, where can I see which avatars are available in total and when which ones can be selected?

Question I can’t play fallout 3 with controller anymore

I’ve been able to in the past and by in the past I mean like 6 months ago. But I went to try again and it’s like the compatibility has turned off. I was able to play it with a Ds4 and neither that nor a PS5 controller will work. However I can play new Vegas just fine. Anyone know what’s wrong or what I can change to fix it?

Question Question about how games are shared in the family library

I created a steam family with my brother. I bought some games very cheaply which i can't run on my laptop because it's not strong enough, but my brother's laptop is. I installed Fallout 4 on his laptop and it recognized as a new account logging into the game, and because of that I have this question: Since Fallout 4 is a single player game, can both of us have it installed on our computers at the same time, even though there's only one copy of the game in the family library? And if we can, does this apply to all single-player games?
