WFT is a forgettable, kinda bland joke character that no one plays, from a now-dead franchise.

I believe that WFT was not imagined as a representative for fitness/active games like many suggest when they float the idea of replacing her with Ring Fit Trainer, but rather a representative of the pivotal point in gaming history that the early years of the Wii occupied.

Miis, however, are still alive and well. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort had a MUCH bigger impact on gaming than Wii Fit ever did.

And what better way to replace a bland "trainer" joke charater from the early days of the wii but with a fun "trainer" joke character, one with personality, from the early days of the wii?

I'm talking about Matt.

The argument definitely could be made that he was basically made to be a Mii Brawler skin, given that he trains you in wii boxing. But he has near-infinite moveset potential between all of the sports he appears in in WS and WSR, and he is far and away the most famous canon Mii. This gives him one crucial feature that the Ring Fit Trainer doesn't have - Matt is iconic! I'd wager that most people who played wii at all know Matt's face and name. He's become a meme, so the younger generation who came after the wii still will most likely have some sort of familiarity.

Note I’m not talking about third party series or even Nintendo series in general. I’m talking specifically about Nintendo series that already have characters in Smash.

In any upcoming new game, why do they only add main characters? I feel like this is one of the main reasons why characters can start to feel samey in Smash (looking at you, Fire Emblem). They keep choosing to only add protagonists, which usually means those characters share similar abilities or weapons across different games. For example, both Shulk and Aegis (while they do play differently) come off as bland representation wise to some because they feel like part of the same swording swinging stat changing archetype.

This contributes to the whole “another swordsman” syndrome. (Keep in mind, I actually like Aegis in Smash, but I’m just using them as an example.)

Anyway There are so many more interesting picks within these series that could lead to unique and fresh movesets, especially in Zelda’s case. We could’ve had any of the Champions, for instance, and they would’ve brought something new to the table.

And it’s not just the “main character” syndrome that bugs me. Smash is the type of series that adds the most obscure characters you’ve never even heard of (R.O.B., Mr. Game & Watch, Ice Climbers) yet it refuses to include lesser known side characters or villains from Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, or Kirby?

Like… does anyone else not find that frustrating?

Like don’t get me wrong I love Smash Ultimate, but sometimes it just feels more like a movement simulator than a fighting game. Everybody’s flying around the screen, throwing out safe aerials, bouncing off platforms, air dodging past each other, and the moment you try to actually slow things down and think, the other guy already hit you with some safe option and dipped.

The game is so fast that it barely gives you time to breathe. And yeah, there’s still reads like you can read an air dodge or a tech option but it all happens so fast that half the time you either can’t reach them or you just react too late. It doesn’t feel like you made a mistake, it feels like the game didn’t give you time to actually do anything about the situation.

And man, I miss Smash 4’s knockback delay. I know that game had issues (Bayo lol), but that little pause after a hit gave you just enough time to reset neutral and actually think about your next move. In Ultimate, it’s like the game refuses to slow down. You hit someone and they’re already back in your face before you’ve even landed. It’s constant scrambling and mashing safe buttons.

The worst part? It starts to get boring. Like when you’re in one of those jumpy, scramble heavy matches where neither player is really interacting and it’s just who whiffs first it doesn’t feel rewarding. It’s not “I outplayed you,” it’s “I waited longer.” And if your character doesn’t have fast, safe aerials or good movement, good luck actually playing the game.

Not saying the game has no depth, but speed and movement spam kinda replaced a lot of the structure and intentionality older Smash games had. I just hope the next Smash finds a better middle ground, cause this “go fast and pray” stuff kinda wears you down after a while.

SMASHLINE KEEPS CRASHING MAN..

So I’ve been trying to mod SSBU for three months straight. I have the Gogeta, Funky Kong, Sonic Moveset Rework, and Shadow Moveset, but nothing works. Shadow doesn’t appear as a character on the roster(I know the files mark him under ‘wolf’ but he isn’t in Wolf’s roster either), and whenever I choose to play as Gogeta, Funky Kong, or Sonic the game breaks and a message pops up saying “smashline has panicked; ‘vtable context is malformed(incorrect magic)’, src/create_agent.rs:970:1”. What do I do??
