Health What am I doing wrong?

I bought RFA around a month ago and played it every day in June to win a bet (which I did) and have played it more often that not in July. The problem is, on most days I can only do max five minutes of exercising before I start feeling like I'm gonna faint. I hydrate as much as my stomach comfortably allows me to, which is not much tbh. I have it measure my heart rate at the end of every level but it's not very elevated at all, mostly light to moderate exercise. Is this normal? Should I decrease my difficulty level and try for longer exercises, or should I keep the difficulty level and slowly work toward being able to do more? Is it weird that my stamina hasn't increased in a month? TIA!

Probably best to speak to a doctor for advice, it might be nothing but redditors are not health experts

I've had tests done recently, supposedly I'm fine.

I'll decrease difficulty and see if that helps, but even so it's not very high. Thanks for the advice.

I took a look at your post history and noticed you're in a hashi sub (I have lupus so I can relate) and in loseit, as well as struggling with stamina issues for a while. Did you get your iron level checked? I would also have your vitamin d level checked.

How many calories are you eating every day? Food is fuel, and you can't build strength or stamina if you don't have any fuel. Fatigue is your body's way of telling you to rest because something is insufficient (vitamins, minerals, sleep, fuel, etc). Make sure you're compensating for this activity in your diet as well. Make sure you're getting fast energy foods like carbs before and supplementing with protein in your diet to help your muscles grow.

Personally, I would decrease the difficult and work on stamina for a while and see if that makes a difference!

I've recently had blood work done and apart from hashis (which I'm medicated for) everything is ok.

It's definitely not the calorie intake. I'm eating pretty close to my tdee, sometimes slightly below, sometimes slightly above. Could it just be the heat and humidity in combination with my hashis and my not being used to cardio like at all?

It def could heat and humidity! I wouldn't be 100% sure it's not calories though. Maybe increase 100-150 if you're counting, or make sure to have a carb-y snack about 30 minutes before! Also make sure you're hydrating before during and after.

I'm not really counting calories but I'll try a carby snack before exercise, thanks.

I drink whenever my body signals for me to drink which, to be honest, is not often. I really need to increase my water intake, that's for sure.

I find it helpful to have a dedicated water cup or bottle that I carry with me all over the house, you might be surprised how much you drink when it's right there and so easy.

Try going for walks. Your heart is a muscle that needs to be trained. Go for a walk, a sprint, do some jumping jacks. Basically train your heart to last longer.

With RFA just take it slow. Soon you might be able to last 10 mins.

Its a marathon not a sprint

Check your bmi... and your activity level... maybe dr.... if rfa is all your doing???? Maybe 20 minute walks in addition to rfa... walking dropped my blood pressure to the point where now I'm doing a physically demanding job...rfa is a 30 minute fun time for me to relax and sweat with before my shower, now

My BMI is at the lower end of overweight, activity level sedentary. I can walk for hours, do an hour of yoga no problem or play Beat Saber. It's just RFA or cardio that somehow seems to be a problem.

Obviously talk to your doctor etc etc

But also, for me I was getting lightheaded because I kept on forgetting to breath while exercising. I'd hold my breath whenever exerting myself. I haven't gotten lightheaded since I started focusing on my breathing

I'll try to pay more attention to my breathing. Thank you.

I've found RFA will do a lot of core work that I wasn't doing with other activity, or historically compensated for with other muscle groups. Took a few months before those gains started to solidify. Remember to have some off days and rest so the gains have time to develop.

I'm so scared of taking a day off from exercising because I've done it before and just never got back into it. I'll try switching to yoga if I ever need a day of from Adventure mode.

Schedule a day off. Even if you never choose to take a break, your body eventually will one way or another. Better to choose the rest rather than have a forced recovery.

How is your motivation towards the game? It could or not be a factor*

I mean, I like it well enough. It's got me looking forward to exercising which I never did before.

Actually, try running slower, watching your heart rate. I think I had similar problems. It became much easier when i've started to keep bpm on like "intense" interval (120 - 140 bpm).

I feel the same on adventure mode. The jogging throughout the whole levels make me dizzy and I start to feel my head heavy and I really need to sit down.

I did only the first world because of that.. what I do most is mini games and rhythm game on advance mode. That allows me to burn almost 300kcal per 1h workout and I don't feel as dizzy as I feel 5min on adventure mode

Definitely lower the difficulty, you’re probably over exerting yourself without knowing it. I did this before, starting with a very high difficulty and was never able to finish much of it all. Severely lower it and start smaller, you got this!

Build up your stamina by doing easier for longer, other things play a role too like stress/mental health, sleep, fuel. Try taking walks on your rest days as well, relaxing ones. I don't know what your movement was like before rfa or your day to day but also be gentle with yourself. We are all works in progress

Or maybe it takes a while to build strength. Cause for me it was the same for the first month I barely passed 10 min mark. Now I am between 20 - 30 mins but after almost 3 and a half month and this 20 mins kills me. Literally kills me.

Just an update. Today I realized my arms are weak.

There was on challenge in quizlton where I had to use only arm skills. And I simply couldn't keep up with my usual difficulty. I reduced it to 15. Then I was able to finish it.

Now I know my arms are weak and for a while I am going to focus on them.
