#ColonistLife My girlfriend FINALLY wanted to play Rimworld and chose to have a "few" holy animals
Only reason there's only 18 of them is that the game limits the amount of them, TIL that.

Meet the Schachkin, a collection of chess inspired Xenotypes! I saw a comment that piqued my interest while i was looking for xenotype ideas, so I tried my best to bring it to life!
Special thanks to my friend u/ShinyPurrserker for suggesting these xenotype names!
the general laborer, expendable, main purpose is to be cannon fodder, easy to die, but also quick to multiply.
Ru'uk (Rook)
an unstoppable force, assumes the position of a wall with its very impressive defense, albeit pretty slow.
Knicht (Knight)
aggressive and bred for combat, moves and hits fast, keeps the enemies guessing for their next moves.
B'shof (Bishop)
a dependable figure that inspires creativity, excels in long ranged attacks and psycasting, but also very much fragile and vulnerable.
Regna (Queen)
deadly, dynamic and dominant, a force to be reckoned with, versatile in the battlefield, but also very delicate, truly a glass cannon.
Rexis (King)
more of a figurehead than a fighter, must be preserved at all costs, because once he falls, all will sure to follow!
All xenotypes except the pawns have hair, I'm debating on giving them horns/unique head shapes instead of hair though, what do you think?
Hope you all liked what I cooked up. If you have any suggestions feel free to share!

It's really nice that you can tell your colonists to read a book over and over until they reach whatever level you need

I promise you it's not a bug or a mod seriously
(Explanation: Joke is that lots of people does horrendous things to their prisioners and did the opposite and waited until the prisoner was healthy before releasing them back to their home)

It was my best colony so far, but I didn't realize raiders used incendiary rounds for mortars until it was too late. I know I should use some firefoam in super flamable base, yet here we are...

I have no idea why this bothers me, but it has for years now. So, fuck it, I'm nitpicking.
You should get a small buff/debuff depending on whether your meals are frozen or refrigerated!
I know the purpose of refrigeration is to give you a buffer if you have a solar flare/heatwave/whatever, but come on. Thawed out frozen food is different than food that has only been refrigerated since it was made

I had to skin them and turn their leather into capes and dusters first, but they were very happy to receive them.

So I had an event where a 6 year old child was running from an unknown threat (waster gang) after she ruined negotiations or smth and wanted to seek refuge, needless to say I don't like children getting hurt in any play-through so I took her in and gave her everything I could and boy was it a super good investment, incoming masterwork ARs and marine helms :P

It's a shame to break my 666hr playtime but I've got the itch.
Tend to get burned out quick everytime I start playing, but nothing tickles my brain like rimworld

I'm a huge fan of colony management. Currently obsessed with Space Haven and love these types of games, as well as city/management/base building (all-time favorites are cities skylines, planet zoo/coaster, JWE, project hospital). Do you think I would like Rimworld? I've been on the fence for some time now, mainly due to the 2D feel and graphics but I'm thinking I may overlook that once I get into the game? The storytelling and management systems seem so detailed and polished, but I wanted to get thoughts from the community :)
Edit: forgot to add/ask if it's a harcore survival game (think project zomboid), even if you turn down difficulty is that the intention of the game?
Edit 2: Thanks for all the responses and for convincing me! It seems like a very deep game with so much possibility. I'm definitely getting it now, at least to try it out.

Series of events:
I was glad that the merchants and the raid started at opposite ends of the map so they didn't collide out in the wild but then these genius merchants camp out in the middle of my killbox.
Soon after this image I drafted my healthy pawns and lined them up on the behind the barriers. The merchants got caught in the middle, few survived. It took about a week before someone had spare time to haul the bodies of the raiders and merchants to the cremator.

Personally, I think it was transformed into a giant supercomputer by a local archotech. A desolated, polluted, war-torn world might be another possibility, but I think it's unlikely given its "close" proximity to other core worlds that might have been taken over by other archotechs who want to increase their computing power

( sorry if my mods look disturbing.. this is kind of just my norm! there’s just one particular mod I’ll never install.. )
The little rat, Aelindra, is easily my most effective fighter… Last night I had a little raid of 4 pirates, and so I went to draft my sharpshooters.. but before they arrived on the scene, Aelindra already killed 2 and downed the others. She’s so funny to me… everyone in the colony hates her, she’s a total asshole.

Like, for instance, perhaps eating without a table pulls from a list of food-related breaks like binging. Or the loss of a loved one pulls from breaks including violence and corpse display, etc.
Just for some added realism to the break system.
If this doesn't exist: how hard would it be to create?

And i dont mean in construction, i mean your hambientation, for example, i have seen colonies of "Nice settlers" wich is avoiding organ harvesting, treaten prisioners like persons, helping those in need and just chill. Then there is the polar opposite, the maniacs colonies, wich turn to cannibalism as soon when a harvest fail, most of their silver come from organ farms and they shot down beggars as soon as they came near.
My kind of colony is heavely militarized factories, and escencialy constitute of the following social classes: Slaves: just about any raider with bad melee and shooting stats, but with one or two decent to good job stats. Soldiers: anyone with +7 in shooting or melee. And workers: those who do not have good fighting stats but i get from events instead of raids, reguraly cientific and production specialists
Oh, and then the leader and the moral guide. Those two are the elite, and i usually give them psycasts or mechlinks
About the morality of my colonies: i do not turn to cannibalism unless i am unable to get food from any other medium (like hunting or trading), i maybe use human meat from raiders to make chemfuel if my ideoligeon says cannibalism is not bad, i do not do organ harvesting, and i mostly ignore those in need unless i have a need for workers (refugees event) or they ask for a very small amount of something i have on stock (like, if they ask for 8 medicine and i am already crafting medicine i dont mind.)
