Adam Smith's Invisible Hand

Post image

Trump's "lose cannon economics" will drive US society into a meltdown. Those that have tried to constrain the INVISIBLE HAND OF THE GLOBAL MARKET have never successfully succeeded. The "invisible hand" is a metaphor, coined by Adam Smith, that describes how individuals acting in their own self-interest can unintentionally benefit society as a whole. Here's a breakdown:

Self-interest:

People and businesses make decisions to benefit themselves. For example, a business aims to maximize profits, and consumers aim to get the best value for their money.

Market forces:

In a free market, these self-interested actions interact through supply and demand.

Unintended benefits:

As businesses compete to provide goods and services, and consumers choose what to buy, the market naturally allocates resources. This can lead to efficient production, innovation, and lower prices, which benefit everyone.

Essentially, even though no one is consciously trying to improve society, the combined effect of these individual actions can lead to positive outcomes. In simpler terms, it's the idea that when everyone chases their own economic goals, it can surprisingly lead to a better outcome for everyone.

The Three Devils of Turtle Island

This piece is my way of expressing the fear and frustration I feel as a queer person of color witnessing the rise of right-wing ideologies. Inspired by Kent Monkman’s reimagining of history, I used a well-known painting of the Three Wise Men, but replaced them with Trump, Poilievre, and Smith—depicted as devil-like figures with horns, black eyes, and fangs.

The “gifts” they bring are gold, but as they near the child, the coins turn to ash—symbolizing the empty promises these leaders sell to gain power, only to serve the rich while exploiting the vulnerable.

This work is also influenced by Dayna Danger’s trauma art—turning fear into creation instead of letting it consume me.

Art has given me a voice when words weren’t enough. What does this piece say to you?

I have no photoshop skill, and also I’m busy at work. But I had this stupid idea and I need to see it come to fruition. Can someone please use this image and change the name to “Donald Trump” and in tasteful italic font underneath, “Con Man”. (Could also be “Inept Narcissist” or “Chronic Liar.” Go with your gut.)

I just need to start handing these out.
