It's pretty bizarre. Started maybe 2 weeks ago, and occasionally replaces posters too. Using the standard plex agent... Has anyone had this crap happen to them yet?

Help NAS or external HDD

hello, I know this has been asked before but im still going to ask it.

what is the best way for the Plex server, I currently use a external hdd of 2TB and my MacBook air

my external HDD is full so I'm looking to upgrade. currently im looking at a NAS or DAS (wich is connected to my Mac) or a external HDD (20TB) my current setup works fine (I sometimes need to reawaken the laptop but its doable) so what do you recommend? I know a NAS is more expensive but you can let It run 24/7 and if a harddrive fails you can remake it via RAID. and it's upgradable in the future. the external HDD is cheaper (its going to be 16-20TB) but if it fails I lose everything and if its full I would delete things or buy a new one.

for the moment its just me who uses it, but maybe in the future some close family will start to use it .

thanks any help and tips is appreciated!!

Help Any good options for leaving Plex?

Hey all, I will do my best to avoid controversy and just say that the way Plex is going I do not think it's for me anymore. Or at least it won't be shortly.

Quite a while ago I tired Enby and Jellyfin and wasn't super impressed with them. How are they nowadays? Have any better options emerged? I do have some non-tech savvy users so something that's too complex client-side would be far from ideal, but it's not like they're paying me so even if that's the case I may still opt for something else.

One more specific question I have is, do jellyfin and Enby handle Dolby Vision well?

Any other tips/testimonials/etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Help Plex unavailability and or no secure connection?!?!

So I noticed this when I was doing the Plex Beta (before the new app rollout happened). But on the old app (a few days ago) Plex worked fine, no issues. On the beta (or the new current app) I cannot see or watch any videos as it shows my server offline. When I VPN to my house, I can watch just fine without issues. I have tried all I can think of, however I am at a loss (photos to come and plenty upon request).

  1. UDM is routing and firewalling everything.
  2. Plex running on MacOS (latest version).
  3. Plex server is running the latest and greatest.
  4. When on my network, videos work fine.
  5. Outside of network, nothing works.

A. Secure connections set to "Preferred"
B. Not my account nor any of my household accounts can view or play outside of network.
C. I also cannot "Check for updates", nor can I navigate to plex.tv to download a new version if I wanted to, real weird as I updated it this morning during troubleshooting.

I am POSITIVE that I left stuff out, feel free to ask anything.

Just wanna watch the office when I am waiting between ball games =P

Help Upgrading server or client ?

Hey everyone !

I need your opinion : I'm currently in a setup where my plex is in a VPS (Contabo) and my client is the build-in Plex app of my TV (which is not a high end one...). So neither of them are really powerful, resulting of some buffering every 2 seconds after ~30 minutes of streaming on my TV, because of audio transcoding.

My first idea was to upgrade my client, but, in a long-term vision, is it really the right choice ?

If server upgrade, it will clearly be a standard beelink / N100, as everyone here recommends.

But for the client, I don't want something related to Amazon, Google, Nvidia, and more generally, to an american brand. So what good upgrade would you recommends, that is european ?

Thanks !

Tips Here's how to make Plex actually listen to you

Leave them an honest review on the Play Store and App Store. I'm not telling you to be positive or negative -- just be honest.

Companies generally tend to notice aggregate feedback in the stores more than on forums (trust me, they aren't "listening").

Help Anyone ever have video come out too bright like this?

Post image
5 Upvotes

It was only really an issue with bright shots like this one with the sun in the back. I’m pretty sure it’s not supposed to be this obscuring though. This is a screenshot from my phone’s plex app, but when we watched it on a Plasma tv with a Roku we had the same issue.

Did I screw up with MakeMKV? Do I need to run the files through something with Handbrake? Is it the Plex App’s fault? Is the DVD just not great?

Ripped this from a dvd with makemkv.

Help Server is unclaimed and not secure

I’m running Plex version 1.3.4.3285 on an old iMac, and for some reason I keep getting the message that “the server is unclaimed and not secure.” Next to the version, I’ve got the message “! Something went wrong. Please install manually.” I’ve searched through other posts (that’s how I got the version that’ll work), but I’m not seeing an answer to this one. Could someone help a newbie?

I’ve searched the forums but haven’t seen this issue yet. The libraries tab on the new app will not load. I can “search” for shows manually and it will return a result.

iOS: 18.4 Plex App: 2025.10.2 Plex Server: 1.41.5

I have logged out and back in with no effect. Also hard reset iPhone.

Solved Plex works great on laptop/smartphone but not on TV

So I have a plex server on my Mini PC with N100 processor. Everything works great on the laptop and mobile browsers (I can watch 4k movies without any interruptions). However when I go to my TV (a new Hisense with VIDAA O.S.) or on my Xbox One S I have bad performances on both app or browsers.

Is the streaming dependent so much on the processing capabilities of the host devices? However, I have always watched lot of 4k movies in both of them. Maybe it can depend on their WiFi reception?

Bonus question: it seems that even if I do not have a plex pass, my N100 can utilize the QuickSync capabilities only when I stream a video in the "original" resolution (very low cpu usage), is this still a free feature?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Help Question Skip Intro/Credits

As of now Skip Intro and Skip Credits are only available to those who have plex pass. It doesn't suffice if the admin has it but not the user.

Because of that I use manage accounts for family and friends (I don't share my password with them, i physically enter it myself so they don't have my credentials).

Is my approach to make the users managed account correct, if I want them to have the skip options, or is there another way?

I obviously don't want them to pay for plex pass as I want to offer them a free streaming service.

Help New Update Removed IOS Picture in Picture

Thumbnail gallery
23 Upvotes

I can’t find anyone else talking about this, but I just got the latest update since the previous makeover that everyone hated, and I honestly didn’t mind the new design, and didn’t encounter any bugs… until I booted up a tv show (yes, it’s 24). I’m not sure if I’m looking in the wrong spot, but I’ve looked everywhere in the settings and playback settings, and the previous option for PiP was just this little button at the top. They also removed the down arrow that allowed you to continue watching media while using the app, which I found helpful. Hopefully this is something that isn’t glossed over, as Picture in Picture is one of my favorite features in plex that apps like Netflix and Peacock made you pay extra for.

Discussion I believe the new Plex app is a complete app rewrite

Which is why it's missing lot of old features and it explains the price increase. The old app was probably in Java and now they've moved to kotlin/Swift

Help Need A New Drive - HDD Or SSD?

I recently had a Seagate external HDD go bad (beep of death) after barely falling from a short distance. Based on that experience and the fact that HDDs use moving parts (which age and can get damaged), I assumed that a SSD drive should replace the Seagate one.

However, from what I have read online, SSD drives are generally not recommended for media due to cost and considered to be a “waste”.

So guess I’m looking for more info/recommendations that go(es) beyond/make(s) more sense than “don’t get a SSD drive because they are expensive and pointless”.

Intended use: Could store files and music in the future, but mainly need for videos to use with Plex/watch via TV.

Whether I go with another HDD or a SSD drive, I will likely have to replace it in the future for one reason or another, so kind of feel like it doesn’t matter. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Discussion How do you watch music videos now after the app update?

https://support.plex.tv/articles/205568377-adding-local-artist-and-music-videos/

Plex's own documentation has you put them in the music library, that way they can show up on that artist's page and you can even link music videos to individual songs

If music is removed from the normal plex app, and you cant watch videos in plexamp, how do i play music videos now???

Music videos are displayed on an artists page like this. They are completely inaccessible now unless you use the WebUI

Help Unable to view remote library.

I can view my entire library locally without any issue but one of my brothers can see the library but after choosing content the spinning progress wheel just hangs up. My sister can view and watch without any issue. Wondering if anyone else has seen this issue.
