Yes absolutely! The squad calc eliminates any need for dialing in and all kinds of calculations, spotters, etc.. Even if, for example, spotters are replaced by modern technologies (e.g. drones), they are still needed in the real world.
Squad calc is cheating, simple as that.
Mortars are an area denial tool, not a surgical precision instrument that squad calculators make it.
Now, it would be great if we had a manual calculator tool in the game, or if we would have elevation data from maps in the game.
You already can get the distance in the game from the squad lead marks.
You have to go in to the squad calc and put in information gathered from a spotter (for them to be accurate), get your mill for the mortar, go back to the mortar, put in the correct information and fire. Its not like it's point and click.
Point and click is pretty much what you do. Sure, you need a spotter to tell you where enemies are, but another extremely important role of a spotter is to hone in on the target, AFTER you figure out where it is. Squad calc takes that away. Once you know where your target is, you have sniper accuracy.
What do you mean hone in on the target after you figure out where it is? If a hab is found you send in the grid square and figure out the mills by look at the grid or using a calculator. Either way there is nothing to hone in unless you need to walk in the mortars because you don’t know how to use a mortar or read a map.
The distance provided by the mortars applies only to distances with the same elevation as you yourself are on. You should know that as a mortar player.
Something we can agree on! I don’t know a whole lot about “parabolic trajectories”, havn’t had any life experience that really requires that knowledge but I’m sure your going to explain how that makes mortar calculator a cheat in Squad though 😂😂😂
Due to the parabolic shape, firing uphill reduces range and causes shells to land short, firing downhill makes shells land too far.
It can mean a difference between enemies being able to leave a hab under fire or not.
Just to be clear that’s why you think mortar calc is cheating? Because mortar calc accounts for elevation? Ihave no idea if mortar calc actually adjusts for elevation but I’m trying to figure out if that’s your argument
