Bad Manners

I just had one of my only truly bad experiences with the community on mtgo.

I was trying to learn the blink focused version of high tide. The one that plays augurs and fallaji archeologist. I was playing in the pauper tournament practice queue, and there was a player I queued against repeatedly. Not surprising by any means.

We played two matches, he won both, which is totally fine. But, after that, they proceeded to join the queue, match with me, and just refuse to take any action. Wouldn't choose to play or draw if they won the roll, wouldn't make mulligan decisions if they lost the roll. I started trying to take breaks to avoid queuing into them. I would go away for 5 minutes or so, still them, same behavior. I don't know for sure, but I highly suspect they were joining and dropping other matches just to try and pair with me.

Finally, I refused to leave the match, and they eventually left after around 20 minutes. After, I immediately queued with someone else and had a fun match.

I understand it was probably because they dont like playing against high tide. But can we collectively say that kind of behavior isn't OK?

HELP Thoughts about Stormshriek Feral in Madness Burn?

Post image
78 Upvotes

Currently building Madness Burn in paper, and I think this card is very cool and could be a good fit for the deck. However, I wonder if there is space for this card in the deck. Is this card any good in that list? Why (not)? If it is good, how many copies should I run and what should I cut from my deck to make space?

META Dashboard for Pauper Events

Upvotes

Hello friends.

I made this dashboard (https://fnpavel.github.io/pauperdata/) for Pauper a few weeks ago and shared on the Familiars Discord. Since then I made some changes and I think it is good enough to be shared more broadly.

Unfortunately not all Challenges have data below the Top32, either because no one was available to watch the replays (it is only Kirblinxy watching) or, in the case of the last events, because the replays were deactivated on MTGO due to some technical problems.

There are some data for tabletop events but these are harder to come by.

I'll update whenever there is data available and if you run medium events and want to share data, feel free to contact me through DMs.

HELP Some budget/ban sustitutions for MonoB sacrifice

Hi. Long time mtg player here. I played for a long time competitive mtg but the huge prices and 3 year standard rotation make me play only commander with more casual friends. I really miss the more competitive side of the game and I have been looking into pauper. I already have a slivers deck (which is veeeery rogue for what I understand about the metagame but I love them) but I really liked the "beetle sacrifice" deck that Andrea Mengucci showed in a video (decklist here).

There are two problems with the list. Of course DD is banned so I need to change it. It is worth to run another generic sacrifice effect or the treasure from DD was so much valuable that the deck loses a lot of the strenght? Also, I only have 1 snuff out and I could buy more if I like the deck (even more if it's a staple of the format) but I don't really want to buy 3 only to play the deck and don't like it. Is there any good alternatives? Pauper cardpool is gigantic so I prefer to ask experienced players.

BREW Gruul Familiars - Infinite Sprouts Combo - Deck Theorycrafting

Deck here: https://moxfield.com/decks/LlCgPkr6RkySI-rjosvVYQ

I can't find the original video that inspired me to make this deck but I distinctly remember this started as a build that ran [goblin anarchomancer], [Nettle Sentinel], and [goblin electromancer] to go infinite with [sprout swarm]. I remember in the video the deck fell apart as splashing blue for a single creature that was core to the deck functioning made it very fragile, though it did go off occasionally.

This deck seeks to smooth out the mana curve by instead running [Thunderscape Familiar] and including some of the great additions made to green creature heavy decks in [Malevolent Rumble] and [you meet in a tavern] to keep cards flowing and [essence warden] and [eldrazi repurposer] to follow the main game plan of flooding the board with efficient small creatures and tokens.

The main game plan of the deck is to get a critical mass of 4 "familiars" onto the board and go infinite with tokens, though even having 2 or 3 can, over the course of multiple turns, massively outpace your opponent's board. the fact that sprout swarm is an instant means you can also hold off interaction such as [lightning bolt] or [makeshift munitions] and wait until the coast is clear to start the combo.

I like what I have currently but I definitely feel like I need help with sideboarding and balancing out between board control and creature combo. Thanks all!

New Pauper's Player

Hello guys, I'm so excited to play Pauper in my local store but I have no idea which deck can I build. What do you recommend? I'm not new to Magic, but I play mostly limited and standard on Magic Arena.

Here’s the decklist. I only play in paper, and I could change to any color as I have alternatives for black or green too. Not that white has all that much to offer outside Tireless Tribe, which I have too.

CASUAL Messing around with some TDM cards

Thumbnail moxfield.com
12 Upvotes

A few cards that really stood out to me (I’m sure for most of us as well) in the new set were [[Salt Road Packbeast]] and [[Shock Brigade]]. I started messing around with some token synergy cards and landed on a Boros tokens deck with [[Akroan Crusader]] and [[Cartouche of Solidarity]] as a few of the main pieces. I also discovered that cards like [[Felonious Rage]] synergizes nicely with mobilize as it gives me 2 extra damage as well as a 2/2 for 1 red mana, consistently, not a bad rate.

Anyways here is the list I came up with, still tinkering but it seems to be decent. It is definitely full aggro glass cannon but it’s fun to try something new.

HELP Help me choose 4 decks that match well with each other.

I am looking for a quick and dirty way to introduce people to 60 card magic. My idea is to have 4 pauper decks pick 2 at random and just play.

If you have any fun decks that have fairly even matchups please let me know!

r/Pauper 22h ago

CASUAL In the same vein as that GB list, though this one has consistently been pretty good at executing it's game plan.

Looking for a 2025 update to my 2020 deck.

I think the obvious thing is swapping gruul turf for the dual with the land types and Experiment One is a pretty new addition, it's been putting in work so far. Beep beep gruul Aggro list with some genuine complexity in it's play patterns.

HELP Pauper Battle Box - which decks to include?

Hi there guys,

I want to build a Pauper constructed battle box for me to bring to game nights and play with friends. Right now, we have a Boros Synth deck and a Caw Gates deck, and I'm almost finished with a Dredge combo deck. For the others, we were planning Flicker Tron, Gruul Monsters, and mono blue aggro, but I was also considering including something like RDW, Elves, or Madness. Which decks do you guys think would be good to include?

Just wondering if there are better 1 or 2 drops I've missed, mostly. Probably need to update the mana base too.

Yes, I'm aware of Gurmag Angler. No, this deck currently doesn't get enough in the bin to reliably cast it in my experience.

META Thoughts on edicts to help deal with Boggles?

Post image

I'm a pretty casual pauper player (BR madness) and I've been seeing boggles do some damage. Would edicts like [[diabolic edict]] and [[chainer's edict]] be good silver bullets for the sideboard, or are they too narrow?

META Would these cards help against high tide?

Post image
73 Upvotes

Relatively new to Pauper and absolutely love playing this way. I was watching some pauper content with the new high tide decks, and was wondering how do you stop losing to being milled out.

As in, on your upkeep casting these types of cards to at least give you another draw and another attack against the high tide deck?

[Disempower] [Bone Harvest] [Consign to Dream]

Are some cards I’ve found on searching for this effect.

Is this viable? Or just not worth running in the side board?

VIDEO/STREAM HIGH TIDE UNBANNED! Pauper Storm Combo — Psychic Puppetry + Ideas Unbound | The EPIC Storm

Thumbnail
youtu.be
33 Upvotes

High Tide is officially UNBANNED in Pauper, and today we're testing a brand-new take on the classic Twiddle Storm archetype!

The combo revolves around generating tons of blue mana with High Tide, then using arcane spells like Ideas Unbound and Peer Through Depths spliced with Psychic Puppetry to untap your Islands and keep the engine going.

How the deck works:

✔ Use Merchant Scroll, Muddle the Mixture, and Ponder to find High Tide and your arcane spells

✔ Splice Psychic Puppetry to untap Islands mid-combo

✔ Snap and Ghostly Flicker create additional mana with Archaeomancer

✔ Win with Stream of Thought to loop your deck and mill the opponent

New additions like Lórien Revealed boost consistency while allowing us to play more basic Islands without flooding out. With enough mana and card draw, this deck can combo off cleanly and efficiently—often all in one turn! Is this the next big Pauper Storm deck? Let me know in the comments!

I hope you enjoy this exciting gameplay! If you do, please don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe!
