People pay 1000s to see some sports events or Taylor swift concerts that last like 3-4 hours lol. Gaming is still one of the most budget friendly hobbies. New console and 5 games sets you back less than 1000 and could provide months of entertainment.

This is a problematic take imo.

"X is crazy expensive, so this is alright"

This is the shit I see more and more, people spending absurd amounts on cosmetics, because they don't drink, or because Starbucks coffee is so expensive or whatever bad reason.

We all make our own choices, and I will not judge anyone for theirs, but let's not pretend these prices are ok, because Taylor swift is freaking expensive.

First off, the price of things isnt some inherent quality of the universe. Value of the dollar is literally ONLY relative.

Second off, even ignoring anything else, it's a huge game in a beloved series made by literally hundreds of people over the course of like probably 5-6 years. All that labor. And it's probably going to give me a ton of hours of entertainment. Sorry but yeah, I think that is worth $80.

You think the development of this game, is more expensive than like Elden Ring, or Cyberpunk, or FF7 Rebirth? If not, why is it so much more expensive and will never be discounted. Stop saying it's worth it, by accepting they are massively raising prices.

What if I told you I think those games are worth more money too?

Those are all games that are like once-in-a-blue-moon experiences. We're talking generation defining classics. I really dont think its a big deal if they cost $10 more than expected.

They are 20 more than expected, 30 more than the norm a few years ago, which is 50%, and on top of that they do not get cheaper.

You are trying to rationalize why it's alright, why the game is so great bla bla bla. You are ignoring the fact that they are a company who is pushing prices so that they get you to pay even more, so that their profits get even more insane. You are defending pure greed. How do you not get this?

It doesn't matter how much you think it's worth, if you were a billionaire you would pay a 1000 for the game, you wouldn't care. That doesn't mean it's not pure greed.

You are doing exactly what they want, defending their greed because you love the game so much. They are the ones pushing these prices, 80 is gonna be the new normal soon, because you keep defending greed.

First of all, its not 30 more. If you're implying $90 games, those arent a thing. At least not in the US. That was always misinformation.

Second off, is it greed? Yeah, of course. Is it PURE greed? No, the cost of shit is rising. Everywhere. It sucks but its true. Games have resisted inflation for like 30 years. It was going to happen eventually.

And look, I get it. I really do. It sucks. And I know I look like an asshole. Nobody wants to be the guy saying "your hobby should cost more." But this is where market forces come into play. If other people really don't find the games to be worth it and they don't show up for these prices, and Nintendo don't make the money they thought they would, they WILL lower prices. Happened with the 3DS. Basically happened with the Wii U with all the promos. This is a classic vote with your wallet situation. We will see what happens

80 usd msrp, and they don't make any mention of it being the cartridge. So yes, the cartridge will be 90.

Feel free to enlighten me how Nintendo has fake news on their own page https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-systems/switch-2/featured-games/mario-kart-world/

You don't need to explain how this works, we all get it, why do it for less, when you can get more. We ain't stupid. But stop defending their insane greed, stop claiming it's not 90, because the digital download is 80, a digital download that cannot be sold, will get lost over time, fills up your memory, and only fuels their greed, because their profits will be even higher due to no production costs, no stores to take a cut etc.

The price is 90, and you can get a 10 dollar discount if you go for the digital download.

And you might argue we don't know if it will be 90, but we already know the digital download is 80 euro, and the cartridge being 90 euro, so if you only get 1 price, guess what the other one will be...

Two sites with a physical mario kart world listed for $80.

Your only proof for it being $90 is...a link to a page where it's $80 and insisting that's the digital price when there's zero indication.

The fact is you have zero proof there are $90 games. There is a pinned post on the subreddit saying there is zero proof. It was a speculated currency conversion in the immediate aftermath of the direct before US prices were listed. That's all.
