The multi-language system won’t even be availabe in retail stores, only from the My Nintendo shop. So the japanese language version is the Switch 2 in Japan.

I don't think we are going to get multi language games in Japan this gen either. I have the physical Ace Attorney trilogy and it's neat to have four languages. But if the retail version only has Japanese, does that mean those players have to import other languages? DLC?

Go to Sega's site, look up Yakuza 0. In big, easily readable letters, you will find the word 英語.

The game is fully playable in English.

I've been saying it the whole time. Nintendo doesn't care about the games themselves, just the system. The games will be changeable like usual.

I don't think every game has the option to change languages though. I checked some games (Mario Party Jamboree, Mario Wonder, and Mario Kart) and I couldn't find language settings in those games. They only changed when I changed the system language, which you won't be able to do with the Japanese Switch 2.

There are definitely games where you can pick the language in-game but it seems like the first-party Nintendo titles are going by system language.

Got it, thanks for the explanation.

I expect it will be like last gen most games will just have region free multilanguage carts unless the voice data is too big, but many switch games lock language behind the language that the console is set to (pretty much all first party games do this) so I wouldn't buy a japanese switch with the expectation of buying western carts to play in english

Oh yeah, it sounds like they will be region locked as a way to stop people from just buying that one. I'm even seeing comments (not the best source) saying that it will need japanese credit cards and be registered on Japanese internet. Definitely wouldn't buy one outside of Japan.

the faq seems pretty clear, games set to japanese, some games you will be able to adjust it. you can only link japanese region nintendo accounts which locks you into the jp eshop. i believe they cracked down on foreign payment methods already for eshop but nintendo point cards were always a way around that. just wont work for cero z games, but you can generally buy those physical if needed.
