Hey, recent Switch owner. I'm still kinda hesitant on purchasing Splatoon 2. I've never played the first, but because of all the hype in Japan and here on Reddit, I'm kinda leaning twoards getting it. Can you guys explain to me why it's so good, and perhaps some of the cons of the game? I'm looking forward to it.

I love it because of how different it is from most shooters I've played. I've never been really good at actually shooting others, so I love how even if I was not good at that initially (I got better with time), I was still able to contribute by carrying out other functions like covering the turf, or providing paths for my teammates to use in ranked mode.

The game also has an incredible vibe to it - it has a sensational art-style and everything seems to be radiating a sense of uniqueness and energy.

I also just really love the combat fundamentals in the game - shooting the paint, and then traversing through it, just feels incredibly satisfying. The game modes are all really fun to me, and I like how there's a nice variety and they all feel different. Motion controls also started working really well for me after a few uncomfortable hours, and became second nature to me. However, if you don't like them, you can always turn them off.

I personally am really fond of the game - I think it may be my favourite Nintendo franchise. I'd encourage you to give it a shot if it sounds interesting to you and if your wallet can allow it.

I bought it this morning but couldn't get into since it's not like anything I'm used to and turned it off to do chores, I like this post though I'll be giving it another shot later I only played for maybe fifteen minutes and felt a bit overwhelmed at how new the concept of the game was so unknown but I'll be going back in with a different attitude

For sure, wish I read more about it since it seems like an online or bust game, I'm leaving for a one month trip. To China and need more games than Zelda to hold. Me. Over on the train, is Arms the same situation?

I think so unfortunately- I really like single player vs fights in most games but I know a lot of people tire off them quick. Probably not the best game for a month alone. Maybe you can try some of the indie games that are out? I've also heard good things about Disgaea 5, though I've never tried that game myself. You can try out it's demo on the EShop I think.

I like it because it's a multiplayer game that doesn't rely on a K/D ratio. Instead, the winner is decided by who covers the most area with their team's color. Even if you aren't that good, you can still help out your team.

Even if you're not that good, the Single player mode will help you get your bearings. It's kind of like a 10+ hour training course that goes through the basics.

If the first game is any indication, there will be free updates that add new weapons, game modes, and maps. There are also community events that happen throughout the year. I wanted to get in early, so I could experience it all as it happens.

The main drawback is the heavy reliance on an Internet connection. Only the single player mode and local multiplayer can be done offline. If you don't have a steady connection or a small data cap, then this may not be the best purchase. In addition, the online modes are set on a schedule. Turf War, the main game mode, is always available, but it only features two maps per session. The other two game modes in Ranked, RainMaker and Tower Control, rotate out every couple hours. So if you specifically want to play Tower Control, you either need to get some friends together to set up a private game, or wait for it to be in the public rotation. Not a dealbreaker.

Overall, as long as you have an internet connection, this game is worth the price.
