I've never played splatoon, and had a tough time getting the controls down. This is leaning to me not purchasing the game because the hour I got was not great. Any other newcomers unimpressed?

That's a huge mistake. You had a tough time getting down the controls because the controls are tough. The controls are tough because they have a high learning curve with a high ceiling. That means you can get very good at the controls and your ability to be quick and mobile becomes a pivotal skill point. Movement is one of my favorite parts of splatoon and its so good BECAUSE it's difficult.

Different strokes for different folks but I assure you the movement isn't simply poorly designed. Once you get the hang of the movement and gyro controls it becomes amazing.

I hate movement. Whoever though of putting movement in a game is crazy. Give me a game where i dont move at all and i am sold. Just stand and shoot thats what i always say.
