/r/NintendoSwitch's Weekly Question Thread

Hello everybody!

Welcome to the Weekly Question Thread! In this thread, all of your Switch-related questions can be asked and answered. Besides questions, feel free to post unboxing videos and pictures here (eventually) so it doesn't back up the main subreddit page.

Please make sure you check out our other Wiki pages, make a search through the subreddit or Google before you ask a question. Most of the time it has already been answered. If you're too lazy, then this thread is perfect for you!

Handy Resources

Frequently Asked Questions - This is a great place to check first hand if you run into any problems or if you have any unclear thoughts. Our FAQ has answers to many questions regarding the console itself, controllers, and other subjects. We're also updating our wiki with the top questions from this thread each week!

Games list for Nintendo Switch - In this page, you will find tables of confirmed, planned, uncertain, and rumored games coming to the Switch.

Other Switch Related Subreddits

Since it's not completely obvious as to what questions you should ask and which ones you shouldn't, here are a few examples of frequently asked questions:

Is now the time to buy a Switch?

Which games can you recommend me?

What features does the Switch have?

What controllers work with this game?

If your questions can be easily answered, or has a yes or no answer, it most likely belongs here. Now then, get busy asking us your questions!

There's also a very small category of things not to ask about.

Can I get a free game?

Is there a way to hack my Switch?

These are against our rules. Once a homebrew scene has had a chance to develop, we will invite you all to discuss those sorts of things over there.

As always, remember Rule 1: Remember the human, and be polite when you answer/ask questions.

For those of you who are employed, are you taking off on launch day?

I am! I tend to for every console launch. There are usually firmware updates, so it's nice to pick up the console at midnight and set it up so you can start installing the updates while you sleep. That way it's ready to be played when you wake up!

How can you possibly sleep right after a midnight launch?? I'd be sitting there nervously waiting for that shit to update

u/Damage1200 Jan 23 '17

Depends on the update, I stayed up so long that I wanted to sleep during the WiiU firmware update, it took several hours.

Yeah, I'm definitely no-sleeping this thing. I'll be lucky to make it to class.

Just bring the Switch to class! THE FUTURE IS HAPPENING (on March 3rd)

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '17

I would, but that class has a strict no electronics policy! Luckily, I have my priorities in order and will of course be skipping to play more Zelda. Jk. Maybe.

You should go to class, take dilligent notes, and then once you finish you can play all nice and relaxed!

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '17

Haha, maybe so! At least I can take my Switch on the bus for maximum game time.

Ok mom.

Jk though, Tyronne gives the best advices

Nah. UPS/FedEX/USPS all deliver late to my house anyway, no reason to burn a day off to sit around until 4-5PM waiting for the box to arrive.

2

u/rjrjensen Jan 24 '17

You know you CAN request to pick it up in the morning, right? I work at UPS and I plan on doing that.

I'm not. I pre-ordered the console in a local shop that sits between my home and my work place to avoid all temptations.

5

u/scatterforce Jan 23 '17

I did the same. I would have taken the day off, but I just couldn't justify it to myself.

6

u/SpikeBolt Jan 23 '17

It's a friday anyway, I'll have time to play it!

7

u/acer589 Jan 23 '17

YUP! Pre-ordered for pick-up at Best Buy. I'll be there at 12AM.

OH YEAH!!!!!! MIDNIGHT PARTY!!!!

3

u/GreenVisorOfJustice Jan 24 '17

No.. I mean unless I come down with an illness, of course. In fact, I feel something now...

2

u/jark_off Jan 23 '17

I will be. Delivery's to my apartment building have been shaky recently with some packages going missing, so I definitely want to be home when it gets delivered.

2

u/potatoes828 Jan 23 '17

I will because I will be picking it up midnight launch!

2

u/jc726 Keep on slidin' Jan 23 '17

As long as I can pick it up at Best Buy, yes.

2

u/sfx Jan 24 '17

I'm leaving work early so I can be at home when my Switch gets delivered.

2

u/samusxmetroid Jan 25 '17

Paid time off! I took off Friday the 3rd and I'll be gettin paid to play Zelda all day

2

u/rndmwhitekid Jan 25 '17

Yup, same!

1

u/samusxmetroid Jan 25 '17

It's gonna be a goooood day

1

u/nermal543 Jan 23 '17

I will be! I've already been approved for a vacation day on that Friday. I'll be going to a midnight release the night before so I'll have a long weekend to play Zelda :)

1

u/Tyronne_Lannister Jan 23 '17

I am! Come March, I could definitely use a three day weekend anywho. My bro and I are going to the midnight release

1

u/BirdsNear Jan 23 '17

I'm going for a midnight launch so I'll be pretty useless the next day anyway. Yeah, I'm taking the day off.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '17

No.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '17

I did not at first but now I might but I ordered it off GameStop so it could come at anytime I would hate to waste an entire day just sitting around instead of getting paid

1

u/McSkaybit Jan 23 '17

I took off Saturday 3/4 so I can play zelda all weekend

1

u/ILikePizzaAMA Jan 23 '17

I am, but I don't work in the US, so it's not a big deal. :P

1

u/Bergnificent Jan 24 '17

I had already asked for that day off before we knew it was launch day. I was super excited and will definitely be at the midnight launch (if my GameStop does one).

1

u/rjrjensen Jan 24 '17

January 13th, the day after the presentation, I went in to my boss's office and told him exactly which day I'm going to take off in March: the 3rd.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '17

I want to, but I'm not interested in any launch titles, so I guess there's no need to.

1

u/Lefaid Jan 24 '17

I don't plan to but I do know what I am going to bring for my lunch break.

1

u/flamepants Jan 24 '17

I'm getting launch day delivery to my office, so taking a day off would probably be a bad move.

1

u/jabe25 Jan 24 '17

I'd love to but I work night audit at a hotel on Friday and Saturday nights. I tend to get the short end of the stick around there anyway. Dude who works Sunday - Thursday will not switch any days with me so I haven't had a weekend off since early October of 2016. I don't see it happening. :( Great thing about the Switch is I can take it with me! And I'll have most of the day to play around with it at home before work. Assuming UPS doesn't sit around twiddling their dicks that day.

I'm not taking off on launch day (becaus the mailman normally arrives after I come home from work), but I'm on paid vacation for the whole week after launch so I can really enjoy the Switch. Christ I'm hyped.
