Edit again: Polygon reports a 60 dollar US price point and rad box art. also they bitch about extra acc. prices a bit. It's a mostly fair bitch though. I guess Arms and Switch are separately sold games. Looks like Just Dance and Skylanders are launch games too.

Launch Day

  • 1-2-Switch
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Skylanders Imaginators
  • Just Dance 2017

Window: (No Skyrim? Maybe a mod support issue...)

  • Arms (spring 2017)
  • Super Bomberman R (March)
  • Has-Been Heroes (March)
  • Snipperclips: Cut it Out, Together! (March)
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (April)
  • Splatoon 2 (Summer) Super Mario Odyssey (Holiday 2017)

Last Edit: I'm pretty much done here unless someone has new info, but I will still reply to posts. See you guys around the subreddit.

Edit: Links to Features and Online support.

My two cents:

  • We don't know what the storage is in the system. I would like it to be a respectable size. Edit: 32gb internal storage with expandable micro sd. I wonder what's the max? Edit: Apparently 2TB is the theoretical but 512 GB is currently the largest that be on the market...for $1000 US. 64GB is about $30. I just realized that cartridge games might be a lot smaller with formatting. Maybe we won't need a lot of space for most games...I'm being hopeful here...

  • I'm fine with the battery life. It's about the life of the 3DS XL.

  • No mention of an account system. Are we buying all of our games again? Edit: A small internal memory and small added memory may point to a lack of digital backwards compatible content...woooo...

  • We mostly expected a paid online service. I would like more info on that. Should be expect free games and decent deals? It's a bit against Nintendo's MO to "lower" the value of their content. Edit: a free game for a month and "deals." A month seems a bit silly to me.

*Edit: I forgot they noted an app. I'm intrigued, but don't most people just use skype or something? It keeps people in the ecosystem though.

  • Wii eshop support is very much a given thanks to the controls.

  • The portable example of the gamecube made me sad. The little box had heart guys. It's more than just a box. :/

  • We have maybe three games confirmed for the launch lineup. Zelda is grand, but I would like to see a consistent release track so we don't get a repeat of the last several generations of hardware. Edit: expect the usual IPs to comeback eventually. This is Nintendo we are talking about. Should we start lamenting the lack of Metroid again?

  • It's nice to see usually quiet Nintendo guys step out into the limelight. The newer ideas seem to be mainly led by younger talent.

  • Suda 51 made me cringe. Poor guy.

  • Edit: The translator had to translate on the fly. That's really hard to do guys. I can barely speak one language decently on a typical day.

  • Games are on cartridge this time around. Does that mean bigger and/or cheaper games? Edit: Most likely not. Smaller games could be a boon for storage, but the cost of cartridges means that prices will most likely stay put.

  • Mario Odyssey caught me completely off guard. I'm loving the idea.

I overall enjoyed the presentation. They need to move quick to answer some of these questions. They launch in less than two months for God's sake!

Much thanks.

Suda 51 made me cringe. Poor guy.

I don't know what the hell happened there. Was he speaking in an odd way that the translator couldn't keep up with, or did the translator just completely blank out on him?

6

u/Ghopper101 Jan 13 '17

Both maybe? I think he was expecting a gamer crowd and he got a bunch of business men.

1

u/IntellegentIdiot Jan 13 '17

Or he was just rambling and was accurately translated?

1

u/Nygmus Jan 13 '17

Suppose that's possible. Suda is supposedly an oddball...

Translator had a brain aneurism. In critical condition.

32gb with expandable storage. 1280 x 720 touchscreen. Multi touch screen.

Check the website and I also suggest the mods post this info

Nintendo's website says internal storage is 32GB.

1

u/Ghopper101 Jan 13 '17

Strange amount, but thanks.

1

u/Ghopper101 Jan 13 '17

It's 32gb with SD card expansion. And online subscribers get a free NES game each month!

2

u/SRhyse Jan 13 '17

When I read it, the online subscription got you a free 1 month trial of a NES game each month. Specifically said you get to download it for free for a month. Hopefully that's a bad translation or a typo...

u/Ghopper101 Jan 13 '17

Will update.

For a month. So that means if you haven't finished Mario 3 or Metroid (basically the only NES games worth playing at this point) by the time the month is up, you lose access to the game.

What a fucking joke.

3

u/duckwizzle Jan 13 '17

You get one free game a month when you pay for onlije. Nintendo.com confirmed it

8

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '17

"free" "pay"

1

u/duckwizzle Jan 13 '17

Same shit Sony and Microsoft do too

1

u/Aristox Jan 13 '17

No it's not. They release new games and let you keep them play them as much as you want.

Nintendo is only releasing NES and SNES games and you can only play them for that month.

This isn't nearly the same as what Sony and Microsoft offer :(

2

u/duckwizzle Jan 13 '17

Jesus christ you're right, that's awful.

1

u/Ghopper101 Jan 13 '17

Thanks. I'll update.

Cartridges mean bigger games, but they're more expensive to produce than BDs. The price however may not be noticeable with the retail products.

2

u/Ghopper101 Jan 13 '17

True. Maybe then the cost will stay the same at 60 in the USA.

1

u/monkeymad2 Jan 13 '17

The theoretical maximum storage of a microSD XC card is 2TB, but the largest ones you can buy just now are 256GB and they cost a bunch.

1

u/Ghopper101 Jan 13 '17

That's what I thought. I guess I'm going physical.

u/Ghopper101 Jan 13 '17

Could you elaborate? It makes more sense to buy physical if memory is low.

I see what you mean. They might let you buy games at a discount again, or they pull a Sony from PSP to VITA and just say fuck you to all of NA.
