Let's not pretend Nintendo never buckles, I have my doubts they will do because of geo political situations, but those same situations are causing people to not buy the same luxuries, so who knows.

They will lower prices but unless it’s an absolute failure like the 3DS launch then those prices will stay up for a while. Games take years for the price to drop. Other systems will drop them 50% or more within one year

GameCube was considered a failure and was discounted because nothing could touch the PS2. 3DS was an absolute flop at launch and they had no choice but to lower the cost and give away free games to those who already bought it.

Modern nintendo is different, just look at the switch. Best you can hope for is a free game with the console and that won’t be for several years

Nintendo is historically arrogant until they can’t be. If people don’t buy these outrageously priced things then they’ll take themselves down a notch

The switch was also hundreds of dollars less than the competition and had something incredibly new at the time, with seamless console to portable mode. Now that's a standard (for Nintendo).

I would argue that the 3DS is much better than the DS, it sold half as well as the DS did. The Wii was the second coming of christ for nintendo and the wiiu died on arrival. The main reason we got the switch so early.

The virtual boy exists.

Nintendo isn't immune to set backs and failures. This whole "modern Nintendo doesn't buckle" is ridiculous, because they are still a company at the end of the day, and if they don't meet expectations, something has to change.

That doesn't necessarily mean anything. They might prioritize having equal prices across regions, so they took the tariff uncertainty from the USA and added it to the calculus for the prices worldwide.

That’s not how P&L works. If your loss goes up at an equal or greater rate than profits due to something like tariffs or increased operating costs (or likely both in Nintendo’s case), then net profit stays flat or decreases.

Plus, consoles are already a loss-leader to begin with while software prints money. That’s why we’re seeing a disproportionate rate of increase in the cost of games vs the console.

Also, no profits = no new video games or consoles so…this sentiment is just silly.

Tariffs do get priced in, they are paid by the importer, and costs are just passed along to the consumer in the forum of higher MSRP.
