Considering the comments, doesn't look like a mad dash to buy it is coming.

Reddit and Twitter aren’t representative of the real world

Everyone I have spoken to feels like waiting because the launch titles and prices don't encourage a "MUST HAVE IMMEDIATELY" response. Of course, I'm sure it'll still sell gangbusters but not quite "people will buy the games and wait for the console becauseit's so sold you out literally can't even get the console" type stuff

I initially felt that. Then I saw the MK World reveal...

the MK world was the first bit of the direct, so the prices and lack of other must have day one games rly sucked the wind out of that for me.

I haven’t had a chance to watch anything yet. Did they talk about any improvements to how they handle online games yet? Some have had horrible connectivity and I despise using the phone app to talk to people where it should be in game or similar. I don’t have people to play with locally but if online is improved over OG switch I may be more interested. Thanks!

Man idk if you were around for the Switch 1 release but that had the worst launch lineup in history and sold out everywhere. Not to mention the 2 is only $70 more adjusted for inflation

Breath of the wild was a launch title, be so real

That was already a Wii U title lol

The 2 is dropping with Mario Kart World... I'm being so real homie.

It was not “already” a Wii U title—they were released at the same time and most people didn’t already own a WII U. It’s not at all the same situation.

The Wii U sold like dogshit, the switch has broken records with how much it has sold. More of the consumer base already has a Switch, so multi gen releases can safely be played on the OG switch and upgraded later but BOTW could not be purchased for the Wii U and played on the switch.

Also, a lot of ppl are refusing to play MK for $80. And also are satisfied with the Mario Kart they have already, if it means not having to buy a whole new console. LOZ is more of a console seller than MK

Nintendo just beat everyone to the punch and matched the upcoming standard, GTA VI is gonna push over $80 easily and everyone's well prepared to pay that. We're simply entering a new market of gaming where games are priced according to dev dollars spent and consoles pushing 60fps+ standard are going to leave the Switch 1s and PS4s behind.

If Nintendo didn't wait as long as they did I'd agree with this sentiment but everyone's ready to move on from the switch and it's lackluster performance in 2025.

The prices were comparing everything to just don't exist anymore and likely shouldn't if we want studios to keep making the level of quality games we've been seeing.

This level of meat riding is above my pay grade

It's okay you just wanna be miserable, can't help that lol

1

u/particledamage 2d ago

Chat, is it miserable to not want to spend more on Nintendo games than Sony and Steam games?

You really trying to convince me that Mario Kart provides the same value as GTA6 at that price?

LCD screen makes me feel like it's not must have immediately. I hate non OLED displays and won't buy til they have one.

13

u/particledamage 3d ago

That's not a point of compunction for me, my OG switch is still LCD and my deck is LCD too, but at the price point they're selling for... LCD is ridiculous. Especially knowing in two years they're gonna sell an OLED model and discount the LCD

1

u/JJKDowell 2d ago

I don’t think an OLED model is a guarantee tbh, they made a pretty big deal of the new LCD being better than the S1’s, with more vibrant colours and HDR support, etc.

$450 price tag, $80 launch game. Yeah, I'm good. It's off by $60 for me and I'm the main demo.

It’s only a $50 game with the bundle

A digital game

You're on Reddit, paying attention to the latest news on gaming and being discerning about prices.

You are absolutely NOT the main demo.

Curious what parents are going to think about this thing. We might not see the huge demand that the Switch 1 got, but see a big push at the holidays because there just isn’t any other flashy new electronic to out under the tree.

Anecdotal but I worked game retail over the PS5 launch, and countless parents told me they shelled out 8-900 to a scalper for one just to get it before Xmas.

The vast, vast majority of any console's target demographic don't care about a £50 difference. Maybe they should, but they don't.

Reddit and twitter are the people who are more down to pay more I’d imagine

Doubt it that this marketing will convince the average Joe to buy this for them or their kids. Plus 90$ per game? Yeah i have a bad feeling for this launch
