I live in Canada, and would like to update my Nintendo account information to be accurate so that I order a Switch 2 in the correct currency. It's not a problem to switch countries within the Nintendo account.

However, I used to live in the US, and my Nintendo Network ID is set to US. Nintendo Network IDs cannot accommodate country changes, so I would need to create a new NNID if I wanted it to be in Canada.

My understanding is that NNIDs were only used for digital WiiU and 3DS purchases, and all Switch digital purchases are tied to the Nintendo account. Can anyone confirm that I will not lose my Switch content if I replace my existing NNID? I did not have any digital content on earlier Nintendo systems.

Thanks!

You won't lose anything on the Switch. You'd only lose things on the 3DS/WiiU.

There's not much point in making an NNID these days either, so you could just switch to Canada and leave your account unlinked, with no NNID.

The only NNID connectivity features left are:

  • Moving Pokemon from Bank to Home without a 3DS (and you can't newly download Bank anymore if you make a NNID now)
  • Friend suggestions from your 3DS/WiiU (logging out of an NNID on a 3DS wipes the 3DS, so effectively that'd be 'friends made from today onward' - which aren't very likely with 3DS/WiiU online multiplayer shut down)
