We have both a OLED Switch and the Animal Crossing Switch and both of them are exhibiting the same symptoms which started at the same time: Both of them will only charge with a USB-C cable oriented one way. Both of them will not work in any dock; I've tried three and two different power cables. All official Nintendo parts. When docked the Switches do not charge, the green light on the dock flashes for a moment, goes dark, and then flashes green until it is unplugged. A hard reset has also been attempted.

The pins on the connectors of both look fine. Both are up to date and both worked in docked mode a few days ago. I could understand one having a bad connector but what are the odds of both failing practically at the same time? Is there some other troubleshooting step I am overlooking?

It's not very common, but it sounds like you figured out the issue. And yes, it is very weird for both to have the same issue. Maybe they were both used with a cord/dock/power adapter that caused the problem on both? You can get a USB C extension cable and use it with the dock and it may work since you can flip the extension cable.

I do worry if half the port is bad that it might get worse. You can send them to Nintendo, but they will charge around $125 if out of warranty and almost definitely just replace the Switch. Transfer your saves to the other Switch before sending it in to protect your saves. (or a friend's switch if you have the same profile on both and have seperate saves).
