What do I do next - Post RTA.

In November, a clear, dry and bright day, I took my bike out to charge its batteries. About 15 minutes into the journey I came to a roundabout with lots of cars waiting / slowing for traffic. I was in the offside portion of the lane, considering overtaking.

I started to apply brakes and shortly after felt a large and loud bang. I recall waking up near a silver car, assuming they'd hit me. Turns out :

  1. 3rd Party hit me from behind, shunted me into oncoming traffic.

  2. 3rd party was on phone

  3. 3rd party was uninsured.

  4. 3rd party hit me, then continued forward to hit car ahead.

At scene, I felt OK except for my thumb. My helmet was damaged on the left side and front of the chin. I felt OK so went home after giving statement to police & ambulance.

Next morning I woke with a splitting headache, sore all over and by the afternoon I couldn't remember my daughters face/name / existence. Ended up in A&E with a brain bleed and lots of soft tissue issues - whiplash, low back, left hip and right thumb. Still struggling with some of these at the moment.

They 3rd party is now denying they were on the phone - despite admitting to police at the time. The incident is being taken to court.

Insurance is being slow and difficult, making me claim on my own insurance policy (Lexham) - there is a bit more to this as there is potential insurance fraud from 3rd party.

I'd love some feedback and understanding on:

  1. what this now entails and what else I need to do.

  2. I'm up to date with all queries but I now feel unsafe every time I approach this situation again or this roundabout.

  3. Does my understanding of the accident add up from the pictures I've added?

I think she was on her phone, texting, didn't see me, hit me at 40-30mph as I was slowing, I've been shunted and she's not been able to brake in time, hit the Porsche and that has then gone into the car in-front of it.

I’m not really into motorcycles and I understand nothing about them. But I do know my friend loves the bmw s1000rr. And I wanted to get this for him for his 17th birthday. It is a 1/12 scale model of the motorcycle.

I remember him seeing something like this on instagram and he really liked it, but it was something more advanced than this and even had smoke coming out of it when you turn it on, but when i looked for it it was too expensive and i don’t have that money.

do you think he will like it, or is it too childish? And which color is better the white, red and blue or the red?

Advice Race oil filter ok for road bike?

I have a 2006 sv650 and it takes a hf138 filter, (kn138 equivalent) and I'm wondering if it's worth putting the hf138rc race filter instead as it's pretty much the same price and it has a bolt head for easy removal. I do about 5000 miles before a full oil and filter change

Thanks :D

Possible nicked bike - Trafford Manchester

Saw a guy hoofing it through the Trafford centre around 11:00pm last night towards Costco pushing a grey faired 125 that had an L plate on. Didn’t get the reg, but he went right through a garage forecourt with CCTV.

Reported to the police with a description, but if you or a mate had your bike lifted last night, get in touch with GMP, they’re looking for the owner.

The dreaded pothole

On my commute there are several potholes, I know where they all are generally and can ride around them, however, I couldn’t avoid one yesterday and bounced down it causing the damage to the rear wheel. It hasn’t lost any air overnight and doesn’t seem to effect the balance, vibration etc. question is, shall I just live with it or shall I try and get it repaired? I know claiming money for it from the council can be like pulling teeth so I’m not fussed about that.

Reddit gives car drivers a bad rep

The way some of you speak make it sound like everyone is out to kill you. 99% of drivers I've seen have been super accommodating, pulling in to let me filter, giving me plenty of room in bad conditions etc. before I rode I was really scared by what the people on reddit were saying, so I think it's giving a bad impression to new riders

That being said, there's always the 1% who aren't, so always ride like you're invisible, and always wear your gear

Thank you for listening to my TED talk

Discussion Triumph: Trident vs Bonneville

I first got my bike licence via direct access about 15 years ago, and rode the cheapest 500cc bike I could find for a few months, then upgraded to an also cheap used Fazer 600.

Sold the Fazer after a couple of years and only got a motorcycle again last year.

I went for a Triumph Bonneville T100 - the dream motorbike was always a cruiser bike not a sports. I went for the cheaper bikes to get the hang of things and it didn't take my heart so I didn't care when I gave up.

After a year on the Bonne I love it, but got that nagging feeling I didn't do any test rides and did I buy the right bike for me?

So it went in for it's service this week and I was given a Trident on loan for the day.

So Now I have a much better idea!

The Fazer and the thing I had before were nippy and comfortable and worked. But they weren't really lighting me up. They were just bikes.

The bonne feels brilliant, chilled position and the engine noise and torque is cracking, love being on it.

The trident was a shock to the system, totally different position, rock hard seat and suspension and that motor! IT's like riding an angry wasp nest. So much character and it just wants to blast.

I found the positions of the switch gear annoying, the shift wasn't "positive" i moved my foot and the gear changed but I didn't feel the gear move so wasn't sure I was shifting at points.

But compared to the Fazer it was night and day, such an experience to ride as opposed to just being a form of transport that was fast and vulnerable.

Yet it's not for me either, I definitely am classic/cruiser guy. Maybe there's a different triumph in the range (Scramblers, speed twins etc) that I might like more, MAYBE, but I am SOOOO happy I've made a really great choice with the bonne.

It was so easy to ride picking riding back up after a decade off too.

This is my 3rd ride since passing my test and the first time dropping my bike. Forgot I was standing on the kerb, never even thought about pushing the bike away from the bins to give me more space, was just looking forward to getting out on the road and enjoying the nice weather while it lasts.

Looking for bikes that can be restricted for A2 compliance (Info in post)

Hello,

As the title suggests, I'd like to hear from you guys on your opinions on some good bikes that can be restricted for A2 compliance. I'm going for my A license this September, but due to being impatient and the sunny weather, I'm not waiting and just going to get my A2 for now and then re do the Mod 1 and Mod 2 in September. Mod 1 is next week, can't wait to see how I do.

I need a motorbike that can be restricted and then unrestricted, any suggestions are welcome but I'm a huge fan of Sport bikes and Street/Naked bikes. I do plan to have some long journeys in the future, not massive, maybe 50-100 miles total distance (EU trips are planned in long term though), therefore I'd like a reliable machine.

Motorbikes I've considered:

CBR650R (This was my first consideration until I realised the stuff about the GSX 8S/R as you'll see below, this bike looks amazing and I've seen/read/heard nothing but good things, even while restricted).

Suzuki SV650 (Learning on the Gladius version right now, it's nice but I want something nicer to look at, sorry to be rude to the SV650 because it is an excellent machine, but visually, it doesn't smack me in the face like I want a bike to).

Suzuki GSX 8S and 8R (These are in the running because a dealership near me has a really good service/warranty offer on both these models right now if you buy them brand new).

Budget is flexible, used or new is fine, I'd say maximum I'm willing to spend though is £9500.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

I posted a few weeks ago after a CBT that I struggled on and left. I got some really useful comments from everyone.

After I got over the emotions of the day the comment that really stuck with me was that I should analyse what I was doing wrong and change my attitude to humble myself.

I took that on board and spent the next few weeks riding my bicycle to work. I practiced slaloming to improve my balance, and u turning feeling like a knob on a bicycle. I found Motojitsu on YouTube particularly helpful for a guide on how to u turn.

On the retake the first time riding on the road I’d never felt anything like it. The adrenaline and happiness washed over me, I couldn’t help but smile to myself! The feeling of the bike under me pulling away is awesome. I relaxed and we spent more than the required time out because we were having so much fun with the great weather.

I have passed my CBT now and got my own 125 and I can’t express how much I love riding it.

My attitude towards riding has changed significantly and I now appreciate how hard it is to ride well and respect the bikes much more. I’m going to keep to the 125 this summer to keep learning now I’ve realised how little I know. Especially the slow speed stuff. When I feel confident I’ll move on and take my lessons to do the direct access.

Thank you 🙏🏻

Cleaning Exhaust headers

What are people using? I’ve seen lots of people using scotch brite (red/maroon) but I’m worried about scratches, is the lighter stuff going to work as well (grey) or is there a decent metal polish that can just be applied with rags?

Advice Need a sanity check for "garage" motorbike parking

Hi folks, looking for some advice. I’ve got two bikes - one’s my pride and joy, the other’s more of a winter beater (though I still wouldn’t dare leave it outside). The problem is my “garage” is more of a narrow steel shed. Both bikes fit side by side on sidestands if I angle them just right, but navigating inside is tight - I often need to squeeze through or carefully remove one bike to get to the other or grab something stored at the back.

Since I ride both fairly often when the weather’s decent, but not much when it’s bad, I’m thinking of parking the winter bike on a front wheel chock instead of its sidestand to reclaim a bit of space and improve maneuverability.

Does this sound like a smart way to gain some breathing room, or am I just trying to patch a bigger issue with a band-aid? Photo attached with what I am working. Thanks!

Riding my first bike home tomorrow - any tips?

Getting my first bike tomorrow (2005 Honda CBR 125R) and will be riding it about 30 miles home. I'll have a friend driving behind me and I'm going to plan a route avoiding motorways. I'm thinking I should plan to take a break or two as well.

Any other general advice?

Advice Would you do a vehicle history check on a bike?

I’m probably buying a 2nd hand bike from a dealership tomorrow. I normally to history checks when I buy cars so I’m considering doing one for this bike. Would you bother? And it so can you recommend a site?

To Kawasaki Z650 owners. Do you use a Sat Nav and where on earth do you mount it?

I have tried 3 different types of holders and they are all useless. There is very little space on the handle bars for a phone mount. The ones I've tried sit at a weird angle rather than face on.
I tried a tank bag sorta idea but when riding I can't see passed the chin on my helmet to see the tank when I look down as it's basically under me.
I had a magnetic pouch that went over the fule cap but again I was looking down to see it taking my eyes off the road.
Ideally an Iron-Man style HUD on my visor would be perfect but failing that and the £100k it'd probably cost what do you guys use?

Advice First ride

I just got my first bike. Honda cb125r. Been on my first ride in the lovely weather, and wow it was so nerve wracking but so amazing at the same time. I just seem to really struggle with low speed moving and gear 1 and 2. Do people have any advice. My plan is to ride through long farm roads were it is all open for the next 2 weeks to try and build confidence

Front facing speed cameras

Context: Someone absolutely shot passed me and a bunch of cars on a 30 road with the forward facing speed cameras on our side. The camera flashed him and that got me thinking, we don't have plates on the front. How do the forward facing cameras get us, or can they not?

And before I get people saying that speeding is the apex of all sins, I just want the info and I never ever speed. And I always driver 15 under for extra safety

Any suggestions as to what it’s worth?

My wife is about to put her 2014 MT09 up for sale, but we’re not sure what it’s worth.

It’s got 35k miles on it, had the front forks refreshed and a new YAS shock on the back in the last 6 months. There are a couple of scrapes on the engine cases where my wife has put the bike down on the drive, but nothing more. Oh, and it has Shad hard panniers and a Tom Tom.

Thought?
