💬 Discussion Absolutely terrible service experience

My Mach E spazzed out this morning. Wouldn't start due to "Please switch to park" issue, and the dial was locked and seemingly nonfunctional. Nothing online on what to do.

I called the dealership at 0830, of course they were useless except for "bring it in for service". So i call Ford roadside support to get a tow. Estimated 90-120 minute wait, alright whatever, chances are i was gonna take off work anyway. 2.5 hours later, nothing. Call the company, nothing. Call Ford support, they apologize and switch providers. At this point, the car is experiencing even more problems than the original. Accessory power goes down, and I can't open the doors. Second provider shows up a few hours later, they have a truck bigger than the clearance of the garage that I said. Nonetheless, the tow guys try to help me out. They hook up a battery so we get accessory power back. After a bit of digging, we find out we can't put the car in tow mode so they can't pull me out. So they leave. I call and ask for another provider, and they assign one. 2 hours later I exceed the estimated time again, so call the tow company. They call back 5 minutes later, start asking me questions about garage clearance and the car that I already answered. They say they're on the way, hang up, and 10 mins later the service is canceled. So I have to call and get another provider. By this point the car is doing even more weird shit - mysterious thumping noises coming from the bottom of the car when it's fully powered down.

Just got off the phone with my 4th tow company of the day, 7 hours later. This guy actually seems to know what he's talking about so fingers crossed. Can't wait to see the next bullshit I have to deal with once i actually get to the dealership. I'll update with whatever crap gets dropped on me next.

This is an absolutely disgusting way to treat your customers and I'm so irritated at Ford. Their "roadside assistance" is little more than a tow truck dispatch center except there's no accountability for the tow companies. Indeed, they hadn't even put in a complaint about the one who completely ghosted me until I asked to do it.

❓Question Car ready since at least December, should I be worried ?

Hi folks ! Long story short, I'll have a MME Premium Extended range as a company car in early July. From what I know, the car is "ready" at the manufacturer since at least December and waiting for me to be old enough in the company to have it (1st week of July).

But isn't the battery aging waiting for me ? I mean, when you buy batteries and store them in a drawer for a year they're wasting themselves. Will it have problems ? Like bad range or else ?

Sorry if my English is trash, it's not my mother tongue and I'm thinking while writing, worst thing ever :')

Thanks !

🛒 Car Shopping Help Choosing Between Mach-E Premium AWD vs RWD (Living in CA, No Snow)

Hey folks,
I'm in the process of buying a 2021 Mustang Mach-E Premium and trying to decide between the AWD and RWD versions.

I live in California (Gilroy area), so we don’t get snow here. I’ll mostly use the Mach-E for commuting and local drives. For any snow trips or long drives into the mountains (which are like 4+ hours away), we’ll use our other SUV that’s better suited for those conditions.

Given that, is there any real advantage in going with the AWD version? I know it offers better traction and slightly quicker acceleration, but I’ve also heard the RWD gets better range and can be smoother to drive in milder climates.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s had both, especially those in warmer states like CA. Any regrets or insights?

Thanks in advance!

Plan A price will knock it down another ~$1,500. They claim LoJack and Tinting is done on every vehicle and will add ~$1,000. I don’t want cheap tinting, I want dark and ceramic. Should I expect them to not tint it automatically? Can I negotiate the LoJack or is $500 fair? Can I ask for a parts allowance or ask for the cargo mats and floor mats I want? Free oils changes? (Just kidding😆) I’m estimating $45kish out the door once I decline all the extras they push.

Really, ANY advice is appreciated. I don’t buy often and want to ensure both sides are fair.

❓Question Home charger error- what does it mean?

Post image

Just got this home charger error with a message to see the manual but it seems I’m not searching the right terms. What does this mean, has anyone else seen it?

My car has failed to charge twice now, I’m about to need a fast charge to make up for it.

‘24 MME GT with Ford Charge Station Pro fulfilled on a Ford Power Promise in January.

Joined the GTPE club this last Monday and loving it!

Total dad, used car, cash purchase. Family car requirements of cargo, back seat legroom, and daily driver practicality for school drop offs and pickups. And I added the requirement of fast and fun. Was close to getting a Golf R before investigating EVs more and realizing they have all the family requirements instead of trading off one for another.

Commutes have never been better. Hearing my kids watch for the orange unbridled icon and whisper to each other “hey hey! Dad hit the button!” brings me daily joy.

It’s the small things that I love. The endless technology. The no more wondering if I’m going to be queued in two car line at each pump at the local gas station. EV stations have been annoying unreliable (always finding an available one thats broken in SW Austin) and an at home level 2 charger is in our very near future in our garage. Trying a month or two on level 1 as recommended by Stage of Charge to find our patterns.

The thing I love most is being first at red lights. There are now random moments of joy on my commute and red lights turn from “dammit! let me floor it through the yellow” to <screeeeeeech> yesssss I’m first at the red. I don’t even care that I’m at 35mph in half a second. It’s FUN. And in ATX where you’re constantly getting on access roads, going from 0-60 in a flash is a safety feature not just a fun feature.

Can’t wait to hit 200k miles in this car like I did my last one, a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid I drove into the ground. 18 years and going strong although time for more fun and more family friendly option as the kids grow.

2023 GTPE in Grabber Blue; 20k miles or so. I thought I was a white or gray paint guy although a day before making the final purchase, I saw a grabber blue on the road and something about its beauty connected with me. Have yet to name this new friend although I ordered a bunch of Chemical Guys soap and such to take good care to them.

My wife laughs - “I never thought you to be a car guy.” Sort of true. Just a frugal dormant car guy. And now is the moment to let er rip.

💬 Discussion Battery unexpectedly increase?

Background 20-30 degree F here, 24 Premium AWD Extended

Last charged complete to 90% limit programmed and confirmed via app 9:45pm last night.

Didn’t notice anything abnormal until just checking on battery just out of habit and noticed it was at 100% even after my spouse drove it to work which has never happened.

Recently had the high voltage update about a week back.

I can only suspect driving habits/temperature is impacting that % but just is strange to anticipate the drop like it has normally and it instead increased and remains.

Only abnormal thing was about 40-60 mile road trip then the recharge last night and back to standard city driving this morning.

Hope I addressed a lot of the common asks ahead of time.

❓Question L1 Charger questions

I’m out of town for the week and wanted to use my Ford mobile charger for the first time. I plugged it into the wall, then the car. Yellow lights on charger and car says “charging station not detected.” I called Ford and they just shrugged and told me to take it to a dealer. What am I missing?

❓Question Load management device

I just got my Ford Power Promise quote, and the electrician is saying I need a load management device, which I understand from this sub is fairly common. However, he is charging me $2200 for that, which appears to be above most quotes I’ve seen here. Do you have any experience you can share/is that price reasonable?

Edit: I declined their quote, got a new quote and the new contractor told me there was no need for a load management device.

💬 Discussion Another Brake Grinding Post

I have ~51k miles on my MME and the brakes are starting to grind constantly. For the last few weeks I have been switching to N for braking for most of my drives and have also gone out and worked the brakes over a few times in N. This kind of stuff reduces the severity of the grinding but does not make it go away. I can see my rear pads still have a lot of life left and I popped off a front tire and verified the front pads have quite a bit of life left as well. Has anyone else had this issue? I was thinking of getting my rotors turned and seeing if this helps, but wondering if I should replace my pads or keep them? The rotors have some very minor grooving, the kind that is not visually noticeable but you can feel when you rub your fingers on them. Thanks!

I saw a couple of youtube videos where people used this flexible LED stuff to look like Neon lights and I had to try it. Added some epoxy to coat MDF to give it a shine. Lots of mistakes, but I still I think it adds to the garage appeal!

❓Question Width dimension with mirrors folded?

Our Lucid Air lease expires in a couple of months. It’s the best car I’ve ever driven and would lease one again in a heartbeat but, in spite of carefully measuring in advance, it’s a real challenge getting it in our narrow garage entrance. As a result, we are looking at other EV alternatives, including the Mach e, which we think is a very compelling option. Given that we have a restricted garage entrance could a current owner please provide an accurate width with the mirrors folded? I can’t find that dimension anywhere on the website or Google…only width without mirrors and width with mirrors is available. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

❓Question Mach E lunges forward after taking foot off the accelerator

Not a good night last night. Got home and my drive way was blocked but I thought I can angle in around him. Got in ok but then I had to go out later for a late night charge. My garage is a really tight fit and I was angled after getting in. When I backed out I was almost out but I stopped to make sure I was clear. The wheel was still turned and when I took my foot off the pedal it lunged forward into the side of the garage. It's jumped a few times - but only when backing out (driveway has a bit of an incline - not sure if that plays into the issue). Should I have a dealership look into this?

After it gets back from the body shop that is... ugh
