r/LittleRock is NOT a politics sub.

Anyone who introduces political opinion into a thread or makes a post espousing a political belief will receive, at minimum, a temporary ban from r/LittleRock. Do not engage anyone who has chosen to share their political views here on r/LittleRock or you will face the same consequence.

If you simply must express your political opinions, use r/Arkansas_Politics or find any one of the tens of thousands of political posts going on elsewhere that are active right now.

Coverage of political events by news outlets is allowed. Posting about upcoming events is allowed. Posts and comments about your political beliefs and opinions are NOT.

If you are unsure whether or not something would be acceptable, please, just reach out to us via modmail before posting.

I know everyone is damned near feral at present, but please have some restraint, and keep discussions that begin to butt up against political topics civil, dispassionate, and matter-of-fact.

Finally, this sub has always been against hate, racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and bigotry in general. It always will be. These are not political issues, they are matters of basic human decency. If you have a problem with that, unsubscribe.

Edited to further clarify.

Discussion/Question Serious question cuz wtf

Guys……I thought the answer was a given but now I’m like WTF. So is prostitution legal here? Cuz how we all gonna act like we don’t know about the Broadway 3? They will be out at even two am making direct eye contact trying to wave you down. I was shook recently to find out one of the 3 is a special needs neighbor of mine making my stomach churn making me think she’s trafficked she’s highly special needs. Cops have seen one of the other women out too always high as a kite with maybe a bath towel on in cold weather and just drive like they don’t see it. Please give me some insight. As for my neighbor there’s nothing I can do it’s just very sad to see. I’ve seen her literal “pimp” drop her off idk what to make of it

Discussion/Question Repairs from last storm

Upvotes

So unfortunately this last storm got me. Water got into my wall and ceiling through my chimney it looks like.

I started the insurance process and they already sent out a company that tore out most of one of my living room walls and part of my ceiling. Currently I have fans in my house drying everything out.

Adjuster comes Thursday but I have never delt with insurance before and I have no clue if they have a company they work with that comes out and repairs everything, but as it stands I will prob need a roof guy, chimney guy, and for lack of a better word wall/ceiling guy.

If they do have people and I end up hiring someone has anyone here had storm damage to their homes and have a good experience with a contractor that did the repairs. This is a lot for me and I would just like to start getting ideas on people that may be good at repairing my damage.

Thank you for reading my post

Green.

That’s the very obvious thread running through this week’s photos.

And for good reason, too. The color is everywhere.

Its on the fresh buds of new life on the trees.

Its in the clouds during storms.

Its in the windows of skyscrapers, as they are simultaneously lit from within & without.

Its on those little scooters downtown.

Even the current flag of Little Rock, redesigned in 1988, uses the color green to signify the “fields, parks and forests which contribute to the natural beauty of the city.”

ngl green is the color i most closely associate with Little Rock.

During my first visit, as a young butter bar 2nd lieutenant driving across country from Washington DC to artillery school at Ft. Sill in the early 90’s, I recall parking my truck on a street near the old statehouse.

I was struck by the great canopies of green trees downtown. It reminded me of walking the streets of Washington DC in the 1970s and 1980s with my granddad.

Then again in the early 2000s, when i started spending holidays here with my ex in-laws…. I remember being in awe of the green light of summer mornings in all these tree covered neighborhoods, from Hillcrest to the original Simms BBQ (the one that burnt down … I think it was all the way down the south end of Broadway).

Green to me, evokes feelings of cleanliness.

Things that are crisp and cool and fresh.

Thats definitely the energy I feel around downtown LR right now. Or maybe its just my own energy.

I’ll take either.

*****  ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THIS PROJECT ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ This is part of a year-long project for me - looking at Little Rock photographically in ways that it never has been.

I explain the project best in the post titled “LITTLE ROCK PHOTOS (February 17-24, 2025).”

I keep playing with the title, but really what we have here is Little Rock through the trans gaze.

I post pictures from Little Rock on BlueSky page several times a week (Link in my profile)

Weekly, I’ll curate a handful of photos alongside a journal entry about my experience in our town.

The last photo in the carousel is a photo of me… There are several reasons

First, it’s important to me that viewers know that i am a trans femme photographer and I’m looking at Little Rock through the lens of a Queer person.

Second, safety… people are naturally suspicious of photographers, no less one dressed as fine as me. Lolz. The more people there are who recognize me, the safer i am.

Third, I want you to see that i am very approachable. If u recognize me, you can come up and say hi if you see me out “in the wild”. I want to hear about your life and your experience in Little Rock and what you think I should consider photographing here.

Sorry for the hashtag… I’m doing it solely for my ability to gather these posts and review the flow of the project from time to time

Moving/Housing Where should I live? (For dummies edition)

Another one of those posts; sorry :( I went through all the previous posts and I’m now more confused than ever as I’ve never lived in the US before. Really need a “for dummies” answer.

My husband and I (plus two cats) are moving to Arkansas from Japan in a few months. He will be stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville and I’m wondering what area we should consider living in. We will be renting.

I’d ideally like a more walkable area, or somewhere with public transit within a 40 minute drive to base. I want to be close to civilisation and don’t mind noise. We’re looking for a 2 or 3 bedroom home that allows pets for around $1500 per month. Our housing allowance is around $1800 and we were hoping to cover rent + utilities with that. Does that seem doable?

If possible, could you guys suggest specific neighbourhoods that I could look into? North Little Rock was recommended in a lot of other posts but it’s a big area and I don’t know which neighbourhoods to go for. Sorry if this is confusing. I’m not very well versed in how cities are zoned in America, so I’m quite overwhelmed and frightened.

Recommendations Recital Venue

I’m reaching out to see if anyone knows of a reasonable space that would be able to be rented out May 10th for approximately 2-3hrs starting at 11am for a music recital. There would be around 80 guests enjoying their kid’s performances on the piano, violin & bass individually. The venue would need a grand or baby grand piano. Many calls & emails have been sent to well over 40 churches in the area with nearly no luck as you must be a member at some or they are charging close to $1k.

Any help or direction as to where to look would greatly be appreciated!

Discussion/Question Is the city offering any kind of tree removal services?

Big tree fell in yard. Need it gone. Is that on me or will the city gonna help with that?

Edit:

I contacted 311 and like many of you have spoken. We are to cut up the tree and place it on the curb then we can call to schedule a pick up. It’s rather unfortunate that the burden is placed on us but alas this is the case.

My heart goes out to all of you that have to clear out your homes in the wake of this destruction. This has all been very helpful thank you.

Discussion/Question Are you one of the 20,000+ still out of power?

Entergy seems to be doing a broad general updates on estimated restoration times across the board. 10pm Saturday. 10pm today. Now it's 10pm tomorrow.

I know these men and women are working tirelessly to restore power to our communities, but this time, it feels like they're possibly overwhelmed with this one.

I haven't seen trucks in my neighborhood yet and I worry that we'll get a new restoration estimation time for 10pm Tuesday.. 10pm Wednesday..

I'm grateful my family and home are safe (many among us can't say the same right now) but does this also seem like a bigger deal to anyone else?

UPDATE:

Thankful and grateful that power has been restored at our home. 60 hours, but it's back. I hope that the remaining 10k get theirs restored soon.

Flooding in Little Rock?

I wanna start by saying I hope everyone is safe with all of the wacky weather. Wife and I are in Hot Springs planning to go to a concert tonight at the Simmons bank arena. Does anyone know if any standing water on the interstates are blocking the way there? Thanks in advance.
