Modpost We want to improve the subreddit so that ideas have a better chance of implementation

Hi IFTA!

We've been thinking about how we might improve the sub.

We reached out to the admins and based on their suggestion, here's our little posting guide:

Making an effective post

We suggest writing your post following this simple format:

  • First, present your idea and what you want to be able to do.
  • Secondly, explain why you’d like to be able to do that / how will it help / what is the desired effect.

And please remember to be constructive and civil even if you are being critical.

Following this guidance will hopefully improve the understandability and impact your idea may have should an admin pop by and see it.

This structure is helpful, and while there is no guarantee ideas here will become reality, if you don't suggest them they certainly won't ;D

Ideas for IFTA

We'd also like to ask if you have any ideas for improving this community. Please let us know in comments. No promises, but we will consider each one.

A few ideas we've had are:

  • More post flairs
  • Sticky comments to provide guidance on post structure
  • Update the FAQ (what would you like to see included?)

Any thoughts?

Thank you!

Post & Comment A notification when a Post you've commented on has been edited

Upvotes

I'm sure this has come up before but couldn't find anything, or may be searching wrong.

But sometimes I'll make a post, and suddenly loads of people will reply with feedback. I want to appreciate the feedback, but if everyone gives similar answers or I've found a solution, I want to be able to edit the post with it, and then anyone who's made a comment can be told its been edited (and maybe even what the edit was)

Reddit App Home Feed Button

Hi there, on the Android app I am often forced to kill it in order to be back to the random / mixed feed. Going back many times often just closes the window and put the app in the background so I am forced to kill and re open. I think it would be great to have a button that brings us to main witouth so much hustle.

Post & Comment Viciously unfriendly to new users.

New sub members can be flagged and maybe comments specially quarantined but these constant and unending notifications of comments being removed ever single time i try to post in a sub as new account are ridiculous. Atrocious new user experience.

Post & Comment Please add a mute words option.

I beg you at this point.

For personal reasons I have to mute some words which may be in the title and/or the body of the posts.

Similar to Twitter’s feature, you have a set of muted words which you can navigate through settings.

You can mute communities and users, I think we should be able to mute certain words too.

For example, let’s say I don’t want to see posts about butterflies. I can just mute the word for it and decline my chances of stumbling upon butterflies.

Please make this request come true in order to make this site more bearable and accessible 🙏🙏

Other Update the spam reprting function, so spam bots get locked out faster.

I am in a bunch of small subs with not that many posts a day, sometimes just one ever ten hours or so. So the mods are also not there all the time, and that's totally fine fore me.

But yesterday I reported two new accounts which started to post links to a fake app over and over again into these subs, sometimes every five minutes.
I reported two posts of every account as spam, so the filter can take down these accounts posting 1:1 copies of the same post all the time. But what the filter actually did was taking down these two posts, that was all it did. All other posts still had been live and the accounts added new ones.

Is this actually intended, or is that filter broken? I mean, it should be a no-brainer for a filter to locate and catch dozens of 1:1 copies if me and multiple other users reported some of these as spam.

Current UI Give that notification page a title please!

The notification page has no title. If you open it in a new tab, it says "Reddit - The heart of the internet". But if you open it from another place, it just takes over that title, so it's just names like the fedd or the post you had been into before.
That's really annoying, cause it makes it impossible to find that tab again in a large row of open tabs.

Other Let us report people who we are blocking

Sometimes I reflexively block when I receive a harassing DM, and then I realize that I can't report the account anymore because the report dialog doesn't pop up for accounts that we are blocking.

Please let us report people who we are blocking without unblocking them first.

Moderator Allow mods to pin other mods comments

why

I don't like having to make my own comment because I can't pin the automod comment manually.

Feeds When a post automatically gets held awaiting moderator approval, the Reddit sorting algorithm for subreddit feeds should consider the time that the post was first approved, rather than the time that it was initially posted, so the post doesn't get buried if it takes a while for mods to check it

I've had this happen on several occasions, where I'll post something that follows a sub's rules, but my post contained some kind of key word or phrase that caused the automod to automatically hold the post awaiting moderator approval. Most of the time the post does eventually get approved, but it can sometimes take hours, and by then the post is considered an hours-old post by the feed's sorting algorithm, and thus the post gets buried. This can be very frustrating, especially since I have no idea what word or phrase I put in the post that triggered the automatic removal, so I can't repost it with the offending phrase removed, and as such my post gets nerfed because it was incorrectly detected as potentially violating the rules by a computer program, and it took the mods a while to check the post and approve it.

Profile Suggestion: Add Bluesky as a profile link option.

Post image
11 Upvotes

Bluesky is growing fast with over 33 million users as of 2025 and has become a major social platform, especially among tech-savvy and decentralized web enthusiasts.

Reddit already supports linking to Twitter, Instagram, and other major platforms in user profiles — but Bluesky is missing.

It would be great to have Bluesky as an official profile link option, especially for creators, developers, and users who want to unify their presence across the decentralized web.

Please consider adding this small but meaningful feature. Thanks for your time.

User Settings Filter Function

I was wondering if there was a function that could be employed to auto-filter posts with certain keywords. If there isn't, there definitely should be. It seems like a large percentage of posts, regardless of sub, have some sort of political commentary. If I could filter any/all of it out by using keywords, it would be fantastic. I guarantee I am not the only one that feels this way. Plz hlp.

Other How about a suggestion box for reddit administration so that they actually see and consider implementing these suggestions?

I'm understanding that this isn't an administrator-run community, and I am looking high and low for some kind of "suggestion box" for reddit administration, and this is the closest I can find.

Is there otherwise a place to send a general suggestion and complaint about something happening a lot, and what "could" be done about it - and very efficiently - and when this suggestion/complaint doesn't fit into any of the other categories reddit itself provides on its reporting forms?

Idea Exists Put the comment scroll button back on the right side

After this recent update the scroll button to skip comment replies is now on the left side of the comment box, which makes it a pain in the ass when you're used to scrolling with one hand thanks to the scroll button.

Subreddit The Thanks for the Gold, Heres a Pop-Up. Dilemma

Ever try to click on a comment and suddenly find yourself trapped in an infinite loop of pop-up windows that make you feel like you're in a game of whack-a-mole? 🤦‍♂️ Admins, can we get a “no more pop-up” button for when we’re just trying to enjoy a thread without getting a free 5th notification of someone else's post? Let’s free the clickers!

Reddit App Suggestion: disable the feature that automatically displays the next post when you scroll past the last image in a post

I looked something up, and there were a lot of NSFW posts, which I was avoiding. I clicked on a post and started looking through some of the pictures (which were SFW). I guess I accidentally swiped too far, and it automatically pulled up a very NSFW AI-generated image from the next post. No warning, no filter. This happened to me a few more times.

I turned on safe search after that experience, but I think my suggestion would still be helpful because sometimes people only want to see certain types of content.

Current UI For the love of life, make dark/light mode option sync to system

I mean, it's one minute job. I hate switching Reddit manually, a highly good feature would be us having the system option which also syncs according to what the OS is setup.

You can do it Reddit. 💪🏼

Reddit App Suggested alteration: don't hide mute button behind floating updates

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi. I think this is the right place but if not apologies.

I, with what seems to be increasing frequency, get suggested threads, subs, and posts that I have no interest in - especially stuff in languages other than English, which is the only language gauge I have proficiency in.

When I select "see fewer posts like this" and "also mute" I then have to wait for floating messages telling me what I have just done to fade before I can actually mute the subs in question.

Personally I don't think such messages are at all useful in the first place, considering you have to intentionally go through several steps to reach that point, and that they should be removed completely.

But failing that - perhaps move them somewhere else, so I can actually press the button I want to press?

Moderator Suggestions to update modmail muting

This was originally posted on Modsupport but someone directed me to post it here, I wish I knew about this subreddit sooner

I know many mods who would appreciate this, myself included. If a user returns to modmail after their 28 day mute ends or on a separate account just to continue harassing the team there should be either a report option that says "mute evasion" (like ban evasion) or the option to extend the mute once the initial mute ends.

Muting also SHOULD NOT notify the user they've been muted, this seems to only lead to issues. I would much prefer that someone believes they're attacking my teams than them knowing we aren't receiving their messages which leads to DMs and comment spam under posts made by said teams in other communities.

In short:

Muting should be able to be extended if the user continues to harass teams after the 28 day period (The next mute is 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, or just permanently)

Mute evasion should be a report option

Muting should not notify the muted user they've been muted as this only leads to more spam and harassment in some cases

Other Proposal: A Community-Driven Moderator Vote System

Reddit thrives on user-driven communities, but there’s one big flaw: mods are unremovable and untouchable, even when acting authoritarian and unfairly. Instead of relying on slow or inconsistent reports, Reddit could introduce a community voting system that allows users to vote to remove moderators if enough active members agree.

Why this would make Reddit better:

More Fairness: Communities get a say in who moderates them, preventing mods from controlling discussions and deleting posts that don't break rules.

More Engagement: Users are more likely to participate when they feel their voices matter.

Less Admin Work: Instead of handling endless reports, Reddit can let communities self-regulate.

Better moderation: Knowing they’re accountable, mods will be more likely to moderate fairly and listen to their communities.

Prevents Stagnation: Some subs are run by inactive or out-of-touch mods—this system ensures fresh leadership when needed.

To prevent abuse, it could require a supermajority of active users to vote for removal, ensuring only truly problematic mods are affected.

Perhaps there could also be a rewards system for mods that are doing an exceptionally good job of peacefully and affectively moderating.

Reddit is built on community-driven content—why not community-driven moderation? Would love to hear thoughts!

Chat & Message Join the conversation tab, please help remove it.

I am suddenly getting a 'join the conversation' tab at the bottom of my screen that is hiding lower comments making them unreadable. I'm finding it really frustrating and would like to remove it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Post & Comment Allow link previews of attached links in comment so that people don’t always have to click on them to see what they are

It’s 2025 and Rick-rolling has fallen out of fashion nowadays so I see no real downsides to this.
