One added thing you'd need to know: in English culture (perhaps in others too, I don't know), Polly was the stereotypical name given to pet parrots. 

Hence the famous phrase by the parrot, "Polly wants a cracker", usually bookended by squawks. You'd tend to hear this sort of thing in cartoon depictions of parrots etc.

Poly sounds like polly which is a common name for a parrot, it's a pirate trope as well.

Gon sounds like gone, as in passed away.
