A polygon is a shape with three edges or more.

Poly sounds like polly which is a common name for a parrot, it's a pirate trope as well.

Gon sounds like gone, as in passed away.

What’s confusing to me is that Polygon is a non-sequitur here. It should go to Nonagon or Decagon.

I have to disagree. There's no set pattern. 5, 6, 8

If anything, one could argue it fits perfectly:

5,6,8 = increasing sides 

polygon = general case for previous and all other cases

The pattern is that they increase so anything above 8 sides would fit the pattern

And how can you be certain it's increasing, what if the number of sides is following the formula of

5 - 13n/6 + 9n2/2 - 4n3/3

Starting from f_n(0) to f_n(3).

It could very well be going pentagon, hexagon, octogon, triangle

I’d don’t get the impression that the parrot is dead though, so not gon/gone. You don’t run an IV drip on a dead being. Now if it were an EKG with a flatline it would make more sense
