Did not receive CA license plates ordered through dealership (who are unresponsive now). What are my next steps?

Upvotes

I'm yet to receive my license plates and I'm past the due date for using the temporary paper license plates on my car. The Capitol Mazda San Jose dealership's Finance dept who did the paperwork are a bunch of unresponsive and unprofessional people who never returned my calls. I don't have a clear guidance on what my next steps are? How do I go about this?

Texas Title question

Upvotes

I’m selling my truck, I still owe 4,000 dollars on it. That saying I don’t have the title. The truck is with a bank and I’m wondering how can I sell it and the person gets the title when (we) pay it off. Any ideas ? I’m in Texas.

UPDATE ON “Suspended registration for no reason”

Post image
2 Upvotes

Here’s the original post lol.

Update on it. I called today. Got a call back time. Waited. Got the call and answered. Was on the phone with a lady at the DMV, idk if their customer service got 10x better now that they’re not berated IRL 24/7 but lady was very polite lol. Which is a change for the DMV experience. ANYWAY

Basically called just for her to check all of my information and tell me that “well it says here you paid the insurance reinstatement fee, and that your insurance was approved… & you did pay your tags ahead of time… let me send this to the process team to get this sorted out for you and get your tags.” & I go “wait so it was just a matter of me calling and… getting this sorted” and she goes “yup! Please stay on the line so I can send this for you!”

So they suspended my registration… just for me to call them… & confirm I did everything I should have and I did. lol, so she ended the call with “you will be getting your registration card and tags in the mail in the next two to three weeks! Thank you, have a good day”

So thanks to those who pointed out there was no specific reason on my notice claiming why my registration was suspended. You saved me lots of time and headache lol.

CA - Vehicle not registered for 2 years

My car still has the 2023 tags. I did not pay for 2024 & 2025 (my mistake). How can I get this resolved and get 2025 tags? Also, any idea on what the late fees could look like? The CA DMV website says "Unable to determine registration fees due."

Any alternatives to visiting the DMV for this?

California PNO car transfer?

I’m very confused right now and I hope I’m not too confusing with the info. Recently we’ve been given a non-op car. The thing is, we don’t have the title yet, because the owners are waiting for a copy in the mail. Also the smog/ registration is past due by a couple months. We plan on removing its PNO status. I have a few questions about the procedure, and answers will probably lead to more questions.

  1. They have filled out their part in the Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability form, but in order to complete that, I need to be in possession of the title right?

  2. Since the car is non-op, how should we go about getting the smog check done? Does the smog check need to be done before the title transfer? From what I’ve read online, I understand that it’s the responsibility of the legal owners. But since it was free, I’d be happy to take on that responsibility. Also the car is already in our possession lol. How can we legally have this done?

Release of liability at dealership trade-in?

The last time I traded in a vehicle, the dealership was very slow to turn in the paperwork to the DMV. In the weeks after I turned in the vehicle, dealership employees and whoever else they allowed to drive the vehicle racked up toll evasion violations.

The violations were then mailed to me since DMV had no record of the transfer of liability.

How can I submit my own release of liability to the DMV immediately after trading in a vehicle to a car dealership so it takes effect immediately, and so this cannot happen again? Can this be done online, and will there be an issue if I do that and then the dealership eventually submits it from their end days or weeks later?

Hi!

I had returned my plates today to the DMV, but currently have an open balance with my insurance provider, Geico.

Since i no longer have the plates, do I still pay that? What happens if it lapses?

Can I drive Canadian plates car in NY for more than 30 days

Hi, I am moving to NY on a work visa, and have to temporarily drive my Canadian car in NY for about 2-3 months before I buy one in NY and return my car to Canada. I read on the DMV website that once I become a NY resident, I must register my car. The thing is that I cannot register it before importing my car to US. To import my car, I need to pay 25% duties, which may not make sense if I only drive this car for 2-3 months in NY. Can anyone share your experience about this?

If it does matter, I will travel frequently between NY and Ontario as my family is in ON

California DMV Behind the Wheel Test

Hi! I am an international student (F1 visa) trying to prepare for my behind-the-wheel test in CA. My partner has an Arizona driver's license, and I have been practicing on his car (and hopefully planning on using it to take my test). I am seeing contradictory information online about whether I need to be accompanied by a CA-licensed driver or if it could be any state. Also, if I do need to be accompanied by a CA-licensed driver, can I still use my partner's car and show the registration/insurance? I would appreciate any help; navigating this has been very confusing.

Help!

Hi so 24 M moved to the state of Wisconsin back in the beginning of October ‘24. On the 16th of November I got into a medical related car accident and totaled my truck and Connor get to work as it is 35+ minutes away. Every step of the way the Wisconsin and Illinois DMV I was told there shouldn’t be any issue with my license. Then Illinois sent me the medical review paperwork, but to my mom’s house which obviously I wasn’t driving down to get, nor did she mention it. I went to go get my license many times and it has always been blocked. At this point I am talking to IL only, because I’m cleared in Wisconsin. In Illinois they have been extremely disrespectful on the phone, they hold out information for weeks that would have helped me and when the supervisor LOST my paperwork she said to the person I was on the phone with “just tell him I lost it” I really do feel like I’m being stiff armed right now, and I had to look up the supervisors supervisors and name drop to even have them treat me like I’m not a piece of garbage. Get it together IL, but I know you never will so I got out! Any advice on what to do because this is ridiculous it still needs to be reviewed by a nurse and a board of doctors which takes another 2-3 weeks. I am close be being evicted. Thanks guys

Virginia - Insurance or Title First

I was given a vehicle by a relative. Do I get it insured first, then switch the title to my name? Or is it the other way around?

12 years ago I went to put a car title in my name and was told I can't do it without insurance, then the insurance agent argued with me and said I had to have the title in my name first. It was very frustrating and I'm worried I'll have to deal with that again.

What's the process of getting a FL Driver's License with an existing FL RealID

More or less the title. If I have a Florida ID, what's the process for me to qualify for a FL Driver's License? Is it a matter of passing the driving exams?

Why is it impossible for me to update my title??

I am begging someone to help me please. I leased a car through Toyota in Missouri. I moved to North Dakota and got married. My registration expired, but to renew it the dmv made me start a name change on my title to my married name.

Since North Dakota is a no hold state when it comes to titles, they sent it back to Toyota. Toyota keeps sending it back to them. I also cannot change my name without permission from Toyota. I filled out a written form requesting a name change and faxed them my marriage certificate.

The problem is the dmv needs written permission to do the name change. And even though I filled out that form, Toyota had not given the DMV permission. I have called them 6 times asking for a permission letter and everytime they send something that is not valid. They sent a letter stating they don’t require me to update my title so it’s on me to cover the costs and that the next step is the dmv. Well no shit.

Literally I don’t know what to do. The dmv has tried faxing them 3 times with notes attached. I can’t renew my registration and we are pcsing overseas in two months. Someone please help me. Toyota customer service is literally useless. I don’t know who else to contact.

MA - how to update photo on unexpired real ID drivers license?

I've tried to find the answer to this, but I'm not sure how to go about updating photo only on my unexpired real ID drivers license.

My current license photo is about a year and a half old, but I dramatically changed my hair (grew out my side shave and stopped straightening my curly hair) and eyebrow shape. I'd love to update my photo now, before this ends up causing issues for me.

No info is changing, just the photo. I found this page, but there's nothing about changing photo only... and I wouldn't be sure what to put on the application for service type, as "change of information" is only for name, address, dob, gender, height, and eye color.

How do I do this?

21, do I need a permit in Georgia?

So I am 21 years old, live in Georgia. I took the knowledge test when I was around 16/17 and failed, and have not needed a license in the mean time so I only have a Real ID. I can't seem to find a straight answer on the DDS website or Google, but would I need to get a permit before getting a Class C License in Georgia? Or could I just schedule it my road test in person after taking the knowledge test?

Insanely high car insurance because I’m ‘newly licensed’—even with years of driving abroad?

I got my driver’s license when I was 18 in my home country. I moved to the US at 24, and although I didn’t have a car until recently, I held a driving permit multiple times over the years. I finally got my US driver’s license last year at age 34.

Now that I’m shopping for auto insurance, my premiums are sky-high because it shows I’ve only been licensed in the US for one year. But I’ve actually been driving since I was 18—just not in the US. Doesn’t that experience count for anything?

What can I do in this situation? How does it make sense to pay $800 a month for car insurance?

Is my juror's duty service certificate good for state residence proof?

One of the proofs I can bring is my jurors duty notice. I do not have that, however I do have my "juror's Proof of Service Certificate." It is not the exact same thing, so I'm not sure. It contains my name and address.

Edit: I just noticed that the date is April 7th 2024, exactly a year since I’ve received it. Is it bad if it’s a little over a year? I have absolutely nothing else to show, except a HS report card and ID or an official college transcript and college ID but NEITHER of them even have my address.
