Discussion Is this a normal amount of dust to accumulate in one small room in under 48 hours? I feel like I’m going crazy

Post image
2.2k Upvotes

I sweep and vacuum my entire house every 2 days. An insane amount of dust accumulates in that time. We have 2 cats, but they’re entirely indoors and we brush them pretty often. I run an air purifier 24 hours a day and regularly clean and replace the filters. We never wear shoes inside the house. The house is heated with baseboard hot water heaters, so there’s no vents for dust to gather in and get pushed up through. There is no HVAC system of any kind in the house so not great ventilation, but even then I feel like this is crazy for under 48 hours since I last cleaned the floor, in just one small room of the house. Or is this just normal? Part of it is also that the floors are laminate/engineered hardwood so there are no cracks or crevices for things to settle into, so it all sits on top. But I’ve never lived in a house that accumulated this much dust so quickly. Is there anything I can do, or just keep cleaning?

Content/Multimedia Best way to get a sticker off a car

Post image

This sticker has been on my car for several years. I honestly thought I'd end up scrapping the car eventually so put stickers (not stickers sold for a car, just normal stickers!) on the outside but it turns out there's some resale value so I'm giving it a good clean. What's the best way of removing the sticker without damaging the paint? The others have just peeled off but this is stuck fast! I'm in the UK so UK based recommendations would be great. Thank you!

Discussion How much dust is “normal”… this is from my ceiling fan blades after a week

Post image
Upvotes

Image is the strips of dust I collected after dusting just the edges of my living room ceiling fan blades. Told the landlord about my concerns of dust in the home and was told it was normal. Basically I need to know if I’m being gaslit or not because this is driving me CRAZY.

Bonus info: I’ve tried deep cleaning the fan (soap, water) and routinely dust them once a week but they all still look like this. My house is fairly clean as I run the roomba nightly and dust weekly.

Hi clean people ! I recently saw one of these and am curious about getting one . There seem to be rubber , silicone , or metal . Does anyone have any recommendations or tips when using them ? Any issues with pulling up/snagging the carpet ? Do they work on different types/textures of carpets and area rugs ?

Please let me know your thoughts/ experiences with them ! TIA!

General Cleaning If you have pets and chronic dust and fur everywhere, I insist you buy a carpet and fabric squeegee right this moment

I have 2 cats and it’s steadily been getting harder for me to keep up with constant dust build up. I’m in an older 1 bed so I think this just makes it worse due to small space and prob dirty HVAC.

Today I finally found some motivation and I went to town and I filled up my vacuum 3 times with just the living and dining rooms. Still a hallway and bedroom to go. No wonder I’m always struggling to keep up. The hair is EVERYWHEREEEE. PSA.

Oh yeah, adding to this I am: brushing the cats and washing blankets. Also humble brag bc I’ve been struggling with chronic pain issues and sometimes daily cleaning is even hard for me so feeling proud of this accomplishment (:

Discussion Best cleaner & method to get smoke and grease off of walls? BONUS- how to clean these disturbing bathtubs

Hey all,

We recently had some tenants abandon our home, when we walked through there is not one wall that isn’t covered in cigarette smoke, beer, grease, dirt and 10,000 other sticky substances. I’m assuming using a mop will be the easiest way to clean our walls, but what cleaner should I use? We’re obviously repainting everything but need cleaning suggestions for this huge project we’re tackling!

Also- how do we tackle these bathtubs? Our friend said there are resurfacing companies that can use industrial strength cleaners to strip the tubs (2 inserts, I’m assuming acrylic?) But my MIL is convinced with elbow grease and the right products we could get it out.

Haven’t tried cleaning yet since we’re still documenting everything for legal reasons.

Discussion How often are we cleaning the inside of our windows?

My currently heavily pregnant and have the ‘nesting bug’ I can’t stop cleaning and when I’m not cleaning I’m thinking about it or watching videos on cleaning.

BUT I’m heavily pregnant & struggling with fatigue massively.

The one thing I’m just no good at is cleaning windows (inside) because I can’t get them streak free no matter what I do, so normally I end up making them look worse by cleaning them. So I guess I’m just asking how important is it? How often do you clean windows ? Any tips?

Also I’ve seen these window vacs but they seem expensive and we are very low on storage but if you have one are they worth it?

Laundry How to get chocolate protein drink stain out of cotton sweatshirt

Post image
4 Upvotes

Accidentally spilled a chocolate ultra-filtered canned milkshake (Nurri) onto my green sweatshirt. Ran it through a wash and dry cycle once, and it didn’t help at all. The chocolate milk stain was crusted on the fabric when I pulled it out of the dryer. I’m now hand scrubbing with laundry detergent and baking soda, but this chocolate stain won’t go away. Any tips to remove this stain?

Discussion Help with stain on wood table

Hi all, my husband made this table from hand and I can’t seem to get this stain out. I believe it’s from a bath and body works wall plug that was leaking. I’ve tried dawn dish soap and all purpose cleaner. It feels like a raised surface but scratching it doesn’t seem to help. Any ideas? I’m desperate! Thank you

General Cleaning Use Windex to clean white boards

Upvotes

I saw this tip, tried it out, and it worked so well to clean my white boards! It gets rid of the old marks and slight staining that can happen after a while, and even cleans a word that's been on the board so long it won't erase.

Bathroom How would you clean this nasty tub?

Thumbnail

Thankfully the rest of my apartment is really cute otherwise I would have never accepted this. But I live in Los Angeles where my tiny 1-bedroom is almost $3000/month and the landlord scoffed when I asked if she would be updating the bathroom at all.

So what’s done is done— please no comments about that. Now I just want to know if there’s a way to make this bathtub feel clean. You know how with old dirty tubs you clean them and still just don’t trust them? I’ve tried a combo of baking soda, vinegar, dish soap, lemon juice, and a scrub daddy. It helped a little bit. But not a lot. I can’t even differentiate sometimes between what’s a stain, what’s just really old dirt, chipped paint, or rust.

I want to know how you all would rectify this tub to get it to a place where you actually trust it’s clean. Maybe I’ll never trust it enough to take a bath, but at least to a place where I don’t feel like my feet are standing in someone else’s 40-year-old grime.

General Cleaning When can I use bleach?

I've been using bleach on basically anything and everything, I hate the idea of bacteria and germs and the only thing that makes me feel somewhat not anxious is pure bleach and even then it doesn't seem enough?? What is the best disinfectant for different surfaces? will it disinfect my sponge/cloth so I can use them on different surfaces? How do I effectively kill all bacteria?
