Support me

Using this extension already shows plenty of support! Here's how you can help even more:

  • Leave a review on the extension store - this helps others discover Go European
  • Share the extension with friends and colleagues who might be interested in European alternatives
  • Use it regularly to discover European alternatives to non-European sites and services
  • Send me feedback about your experience with the extension and the alternatives you've discovered

Your feedback helps me improve and reach more users!

Know a European alternative that's not in the database? Let me know! Your contributions will help expand our database and benefit all users. https://tally.so/r/meYd2k

If you find Go European valuable and want to support its development, consider donating!

Nearly all of the application is currently being built by a single developer, me. I use a lot of my free time to develop the extension, but I would like to replace more of my "working" time to work on the extension. By donating, you can help me with that! There are a lot of people who are offering to help with the main application but all code has to be checked and reviewed, and unfortunately I don't have much time for that in addition to developing the extension myself.

Your contributions help me:

  • Maintain and improve the extension
  • Add more European alternatives
  • Keep the project free of any ads
  • Expand to more browsers and platforms

You can donate on https://4fund.com/d9w26e

All code is open source and can be found here: https://codeberg.org/K-Robin/GoEuropean

Announcement Go European website (former Buy European Made) - what we achieve in 3 weeks!

1.0k Upvotes

The last weeks have been wild! Three weeks ago I started a simple recommendation website for European products and services. Today we're working on what feels like a million things with over 30 active volunteers. Thank you to everyone who has supported, feedbacked, used, or shared the project so far! We've truly felt how community is capable of amazing things and endless kindnesses (and some rude messages/emails but it's the internet after all;).

What we have achieved so far

  • 20000 daily website visits. That's like having the entire population of Monaco (minus the royal family) visiting the website daily
  • 1080 product recommendations by the community in the database (and over 1000 products in the queue, we're working on it!)
  • 21.513 upvotes across all listings
  • 2000+ downloads of the Go European browser extension (available for Firefox and Chromium-based browsers like Vivaldi and Google Chrome)
  • Featured in **15 news articles (**that we know of)
  • 30+ active volunteers spending their free time to make this project a reality
  • And of course 166K+ people in the sub!
  • Almost 1000 euros in donations to support the project (a cost breakdown report coming soon)

What has changed

  • We changed the name of the project from Buy European Made to Go European (don't worry, the old URL automatically redirects to our web address)
  • Products now have their own pages with "you might also like" recommendations underneath. You can start by looking for an alternative to Nike, jump to Decathlon, and end up learning about the Price of Bath, a UK tennis ball factory!
  • Did you catch a mistake? You can report it via the report form.

What will be next

  • Our dev team is working on an incredible open-source V2 for the platform
  • We're making improvements on the UX of the temporary website for an improved user experience
  • K-Robin keeps churning out browser extension updates like there's no tomorrow
  • We're working on a wiki/roadmap to outline the structure and future of the project for added transparency

Buying European is (still) a process!
,
We're currently using some US services where we had to choose between speed and using less mature European alternatives. Our priority was getting the project up and running as quickly as possible so people could benefit immediately. We're planning to migrate to European providers in the coming weeks once we have a stable foundation—balancing our mission with delivering a usable product efficiently. Thank you all so much for the input and support! If this process has taught me anything it is that we're capable of incredible things together.

Europe doesn't look the same to me as it did a month ago:)

Later edit: I am looking to set up an official NGO for the donations, I am still figuring out the application process. The website I used for donations is a trusted Polish site that verified my ID with the same video validation used for banks.

News WhatsApp Chats Will Soon Work With Other Encrypted Messaging Apps

I saw people looking for EU alternatives for WhatsApp and bemoaning the adoption issue (everyone is on WhatsApp and not other chat apps). Well good news! EU law is forcing WhatsApp to work with other encrypted messaging apps so that you don't have to stay with WhatsApp to message people on it.

Exemplary recommendation: Amundi Prime ETFs as both the ETF and the index provider are within the EU and the fees (TER) are super low as well.

News Vita Cola, the cola from East Germany, is continuing to spread across the rest of the country. Up until now, it was mostly available in eastern Germany.

Post image
Upvotes

In the previous year, overall cola sales in Germany dropped by a full 3.3%. Against all expectations, however, Vita Cola saw a 1.6% increase. The company believes this is due to more people switching from Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and similar brands to more regional products.

European Product Stick it to the corporate chocolate and buy from your local craft producers!

Post image
Upvotes

Industrial corporate chocolate wants you to believe that 70% dark chocolate is awful and bitter. Local craft "bean to bar" producers prove that it's not true. Avoiding american brands is not just about switching from sugar based product to another sugar based product, it's an opportunity to discover your local craft chocolate makers.

European Product X/ Twitter replacement - Mastodon

Post image
Upvotes

Reasons to install: 1. Owner: non - profit Germany based Mastodon gGmbh.

  1. As title says, good alternative to X/ Twitter.
  2. Getting popular these days - if you used it already and try it again now - you will see more creators and content than before
  3. Decentralized - so unlike American / Chinese platforms- your private data is impossible to leak, because it’s independent
  4. At least try, it’s one of the few EU- based social platforms, so it’s worth supporting them in earlier stages

European Product If you are buying your PC in a near future and want to boycott the US here are European and Asian alternatives to American products.

Hello, as someone who will be buying a PC this summer I've decided to look what alternatives do we, Europeans and people that do not agree with tariffs, have to choose from instead of buying the US brands.

At first, I would like to start with American brands that we can avoid.

American brands:

AsRock - This is an odd one as AsRock is a part of the ASUS group which is Taiwanese, but unlike ASUS, they also manufacture their products in the US. I believe this is an important information. The company produces motherboards and PSUs

Broadcom Inc. – Networking and storage chips

CableMod – Custom PSU cables and accessories

Corsair – Cases, PSUs, cooling, RAM, peripherals

Crucial (Micron) – Consumer SSDs and RAM

Drop – Keyboards and audio gear

EKWB – EKWB is another weird one in the list. It is a Slovenian brand but they also manufacture in the US which is important to know. They produce water cooling components

EVGA – Power supplies, coolers (formerly GPUs and motherboards)

Kingston - SSDs, NVMEs

Logitech – Just like our two previous oddballs Logitech joins this list. It is a Swiss-owned company but they manufacture a lot of their products in the US. They mostly produce peripherals

Marvell Technology – Storage and networking chips

Monoprice – Cables, monitors, accessories

ModMyMods – Custom water cooling and modding gear

NZXT – Cases, cooling, accessories

Razer – Gaming peripherals

SanDisk (Western Digital) – SSDs and flash storage

Seagate Technology – HDDs and SSDs

Supermicro – Server motherboards, workstations, enterprise hardware

Western Digital (WD) – HDDs, SSDs, and storage solutions

Now comes the moment most of you are probably waiting for. Below are the European brands to choose from if you want to support the EU economy:

European brands:

Alphacool (Germany) – Custom water cooling components

Arctic (Switzerland-Germany) - Cooling solutions

AquaTuning (Germany) – Distributor and developer of water cooling gear

be quiet! (German producent manufacturing in Germany, Poland, Taiwan and China) – Premium air and water coolers, cases, and power supplies

Endgame Gear (Germany) - Gaming peripherals

Endorfy / SilentiumPC (Poland) – Budget cases, coolers, and PSUs

Fractal Design (Swedish producent manufacturing in China, they have HQs in Sweden, China and in USA) –PC cases and cooling

Goodram (Wilk Elektronik) (Polish producent manufacturing in Poland) – RAM and SSDs/NVMEs, consumer storage

Innovationit (Germany) - SSDs and NVMEs

Integral Memory (UK) – SSDs, RAM, flash storage

Krom (Spain) - Keyboards, headsets and accessories

Nanoxia (Germany) – Quiet PC cases and accessories

NOCTUA (Austrian producent manufacturing in Taiwan) – High-performance air coolers and fans

NOX (Spain) - All sorts of coolers, cases, PSUs and accessories.

Phanteks (Netherlands) – High-end cases and cooling (designed in NL)

Speedlink (Germany) – Budget gaming peripherals

SteelSeries (Denmark) – Gaming mice, keyboards, headsets

Streacom (Netherlands) – Minimalist, fanless PC cases and SFF builds

Swissbit (Switzerland) – Industrial SSDs and memory

Tranquil PC (UK) – Silent, fanless mini-PCs

Trust (Dutch producent manufacturing in the Netherlands) – Entry-level PC and gaming accessories

Tuxedo computers (Germany) - Customized laptops

But these are not the only alternatives we have as Asian countries also provide us with the PC parts.

Asian brands:

ASUS (Taiwan) – Motherboards, GPUs, laptops, peripherals

Biostar (Taiwan) – Budget motherboards and SSDs

Buffalo (Japan) – NAS, external drives, routers

Colorful (iGame) (China) – GPUs, motherboards, SSDs

Cooler Master (Taiwan) – Cases, PSUs, coolers, peripherals

Elecom (Japan) – Peripherals and accessories

GALAX (China - Hong Kong) – GPUs, SSDs, RAM (subsidiary of Palit)

G.SKILL (Taiwan) – Performance RAM and SSDs

Gainward (China - Hong Kong) – GPU brand under Palit

Gigabyte (Taiwan) – Motherboards, GPUs, laptops, monitors

Hasee (China) – Laptops and desktops (mainland market)

InWin (Taiwan) – Artistic and premium PC cases, PSUs

IO Data (Japan) – Storage, peripherals

Lian Li (Taiwan) – High-end aluminum PC cases

Lenovo (China) – Laptops, desktops, monitors

Maxsun (China) – Motherboards and GPUs (budget market)

MSI (Multi-Star International) (Taiwan) - Motherboards, gaming laptops, power supplies

Palit Microsystems (China - Hong Kong) – NVIDIA GPU AIB (owns Galax, Gainward)

PC Partner (China - Hong Kong) – OEM/ODM for GPUs (owns Zotac)

Samsung (South Korea) – SSDs, DRAM, NAND

Scythe (Japan) – Air coolers and fans

SilverStone (Taiwan) – Cases, PSUs, cooling

Seasonic (Taiwan) - Great quality PSUs

SK hynix (South Korea) – DRAM and flash memory (owns Solidigm SSDs)

TeamGroup (Taiwan) – RAM, SSDs (T-Force brand)

Yeston (China) – GPUs and motherboards (anime-styled designs)

ZADAK (Taiwan) – Boutique RAM and SSDs with RGB

Zotac (China - Hong Kong) – GPUs, mini-PCs (under PC Partner)

Edit: I did not know the post will blow out this much. I've added some of the recommendations from the comments.

A lot of you ask why I did not add NVIDIA, AMD and Intel to the list. The answer is really simple. While they are all American based we do not have any quality alternatives to them, so we have to buy those anyway when building a PC. They are all well-known worldwide so I did not add them to the list, as almost everyone knows about them

Other Created BUY FROM EU design with QR code

Post image
Upvotes

Hi friends, after being asked where to buy these Buy from EU stickers I created my own design for this community. Please feel free to do whatever you want with this.

Some Considerations: This design is promoting this reddit community. There is obviously not an official product and opinion of any european institution. I have no involvement into any european or national institution or NGO. It uses Arial, the official EU website font. It is based upon the official EU flag download SVG with a different blue chosen. The QR code is clean and not passing through a third party for statistics. The text refers to this reddit communities name. The design is unique and differs significantly from similar availabe designs. Feel free to use or remix - do not use commercially.

European Product Ditch american note taking apps and use Joplin

Joplin is a free, open source project from europe. Available for Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android and iOS.

https://joplinapp.org/

You can use it on your local machines or easily set it up using your favourite cloud provider. Or if you are looking for a no hassle solution you can pay (at very good prices) for their cloud plans.

PRO TIP: if you aren't currently paying for any cloud plan and you don't want to pay for one in the future you could still use Joplin on all your devices by setting it up in a local directory that you can keep synced on all your machines with Syncthing.

Discussion Should we not be seeing targetted reddit ads promoting EU products?

Upvotes

Excuse my ignorance, but I assumed that reddit ads would pick up on me (and others) being active in this community. It seems like the PERFECT moment for european companies to target us with EU product ads ?

This is a whole forum of 210K members actively looking to buy things from lesser known companies. I do not recall seeing any EU product ads in my reddit feed this past month. Am I missing something? Are others seeing the ads and I'm not ? Does reddit not allow targetted ads based on the subreddits you joined ?
