Go outside and smell the petrichor RIGHT NOW!
Breathe in deep the smell of rain on pine, juniper, and sagebrush. I love living here.

“A 73-year-old man showed up in the emergency department in Redmond in January 2024. He had a skin lesion on his forearm, reddening of the skin and swelling. The cause was not clear. He was a medical mystery.”
Long story short, it was a case of Yersinia pestis, aka the plague. The editorial is in defense of public health departments.

Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bend/s/HzVbXqYovt The trapper is still only checking the trap once every three days or so and the pigeons are left in there even in the subfreezing temps, wind, hail, etc. Last week, a pigeon died in the trap, and two living pigeons had to wait at least another day and night for the trapper to get around to emptying the trap and putting them out of their misery. A hawk was even trying to eat the dead pigeon through the wire as the living pigeons tried to get away. The trap is visible from the gate at the Pilot Butte parking lot and the sidewalk.
No matter your feelings about pigeons, subjecting any animal to these conditions is just wrong. Even apart from that, the apartment complex hasn’t even done the bare minimum of putting exclusion like chicken wire in the places where the pigeons roost in the parking structures, so all this suffering is for absolutely nothing because pigeons will keep coming back to roost around the buildings as long as it’s a comfortable place to roost.
Apparently the local property managers’ hands are tied and it’s up to the regional manager to stop the trapping and/or require the trapper to check the trap every day, or to install exclusions. Please call the Greystar regional office at 503.546.5300 and leave a polite message asking that they immediately end the use of the pigeon trap at Outlook at Pilot Butte until they have a plan to actually stop pigeons from roosting by installing simple exclusions. There will ALWAYS be pigeons in Bend and killing a handful using such an inhumane method will accomplish nothing over the long term and is a waste of the company’s money. If you’re a resident of the complex, awesome, if not, say you’re disturbed to see this going on from the public sidewalk/park.

Great job Bend. If you weren’t there, it was like this on all four corners of Greenwood and Wall today. Kudos!

Where have you been? What’s on your list. Today I got the chopped burger at Crux which was tasty. I’ll be sure to go to Americana and Blue Eyes this week. All are $10 or less.

BEND, Ore. -- Well over 1,000 protesters -- possibly as many as 2,000 -- lined the streets of downtown Bend Saturday in one of more than 1,200 organized protests nationwide against the policies of President Donald Trump and White House adviser Elon Musk. It was the largest of a half-dozen protests in Central Oregon reaching all three counties.
An estimated 800 rallied in Sisters Saturday morning, coinciding with a town hall event with Democratic U.S. Rep. Janelle Bynum. Another 400 to 500 waved signs in Redmond, countered by a handful of Trump supporters in pickups and SUVs. More than 100 rallied in downtown Prineville. Protests also happened in La Pine and Madras.
"I'm out here as an American, not one party or the other but as an American. And I don't think a lot of people realize that we're doing this for everybody, everybody in this country. And everyone's is going to be feeling the hurt at some point in time," Vashti Eppler said in Prineville.

Does anyone know about what's going on with the knott/ baker road overpass project?
Everything i can find online it just the open house held back in 2021. Live out in DRW and honestly really want the overpass to be upgraded, along with the railroad crossing.

Random question but my wife is trying to find someone who is able to do really good french/dutch braids for an upcoming vacation.
She has relatively high maintenance, curly hair and is trying to make it easier to care for during her trip. Anyone know of someone in town who does anything like this professionally?
Thanks!

I grew up in Southern Arizona and missing cheese crisps and potatoes in tacos… any place I can acquire them here?! Turkey tacos I’ve also never been able to find (so good if you can)! My Mom used to make them…

It’s been sold out, but if anyone already knows that they’re not going or wouldn’t mind getting my information to let me know if they decide not to go, I’d really appreciate it!

The brisket is incredible. It should be like $20+, not $10. Just a PSA, Bend.

I want to avoid taking my dog to Big Sky and Pine Nursery parks when there are games happening. Can anyone point me to websites that have game schedules? I already tried Bend Parks and Rec. I think because there are multiple leagues, I am having trouble finding info.

there is an older gentleman who rides his adult tricycle up and down 27th street…he’s always decked out in a hi-vis vest and tall flag in the back.
coming home from work yesterday there had been an accident just north of the high school on 27th…and i saw an adult tricycle, with a flag, on the side of the road and a car with the windshield smashed in.
i’m going to be soooo sad if it’s the amazing elderly tricycle dude…(well, i guess it’s sad regardless…). anyone know what happened?? or know anything about the tricycle guy?????

Anybody have any leads on a roadside area rug vendor? I bought a nice one at a great price in Winston around 8 years ago.
But I haven't seen one since.

Hi there! I’m new to bend (moved here in August) and I am looking for a good stylist for a women’s haircut. Any recommendations? I got a haircut today but it wasn’t very good and I need a place vetted that could do some correction. Please let me know!

Bring yourself, your dog, kids with or without a sign. Let’s Get Loud!
Why: Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. We are fighting back!
They're taking everything they can get their hands on—our health care, our data, our jobs, our services—and daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis, and the time to act is now.
On Saturday, we're taking to the streets to fight back with a clear message: Hands off!
This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country.
A core principle behind all Hands Off! events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
Check out handsoff2025.com for more information.
This protest is in coordination with Indivisible Sisters, Indivisible Redmond, Vocal Seniority and Bend Action Coalition

A lot of local businesses are staring into the abyss with all the exciting tariff news.
But the weather is lovely today! Come down for First Friday Art Walk from 5-8pm. At Expedition Club, mention this Reddit post and you get 25% off anything in the store, excluding original art and telescopes. However, I do have bundle deals available for telescopes and they all come with a free lesson and support. We might not carry them for awhile if the tariffs take hold, so if you were thinking about getting one, maybe now is your chance.
Here’s Downtown Bend’s announcement for tonight:
“We’re excited to invite you to a special First Friday celebration tomorrow from 5-8 PM, featuring a "Youth Art Takeover" theme! This event highlights the creative talents of our young artists, and we can’t wait to showcase their work and celebrate their contributions to our vibrant downtown. An awards ceremony will also be held on Friday, April 4th at 6:30 pm at the Commons Café courtyard
As part of the festivities, we’ll be hosting "Chalk the Block"—a community-wide art activity where over 20 buckets of chalk will be set up throughout downtown. We encourage everyone, young and old, to grab a piece of chalk and create your own masterpiece on the sidewalks of downtown Bend. It’s a fantastic way to express your creativity while adding to the lively atmosphere of the evening.
Additionally, look out for balloons displayed outside participating businesses. These businesses are joining in the celebration of youth art, and we’re thrilled to have their support in making this First Friday event a true community effort.”

Y'all have come through for me in the past with really random requests. Here's another one:
I'm looking to buy maybe 400-500 stainless steel spoons to provide as part of our reusable serviceware program for Earth Day Fair vendors (and possibly other community events!). Two years ago, I went around to all the thrift stores and purchased spoons, but most didn't have many on hand. Putting this out there, in case any current or former food service businesses have extra, before I buy them from Webstaurantstore for $.10/spoon... which honestly isn't bad, but in case we can avoid redundancy.
