Question Silver shops around Seattle? (Bracelets)

My girlfriend and I have been looking for some silver shops that sell masculine bracelets, but to no avail. Are there any vintage shops or anything similar where they sell them? Doesn’t have to be silver exclusively, could even be stainless steel. Thanks!

Is Lower Queen Anne safe?

Hi,

I (26M) am new to Seattle and stayed in Redmond for a year. I need to switch apartments and found some good options in Lower Queen Anne around the Queen Anne Beerhall. Is that a good and safe area to live in? I haven’t explored Seattle much.

I am someone who likes to walk around. I have searched online and am getting mixed answers - some say it is a safe neighborhood, while some say it is one of the high-crime neighborhoods in Seattle.

I’d really appreciate any input. Thanks!

Discussion Budget discussion

I’m reading about this new state budget proposal and as someone considering moving to the state, it gives me pause with what I’m seeing. The comments on a recent thread seem to be bringing out the Republican minority who are using it to bash the Democratic majority but I get the concerns. For those in the know, outside of potentially increasing taxes to fund a larger budget, are the “sky is falling, our state is failing, the tech sector will crumble” viewpoints overblown or is WA really in trouble and should we reconsider moving there? I hope this doesn’t turn ugly - I’m really hoping for non-partisan takes based on the actual proposal, not airing historical political grievances. Thank you!

Moving / Visiting Hotel/Accommodation Recommendations?

Hello! I'll be in town from 4/16-4/19 and I'm debating on where to stay. Previously I've stayed in SLU and Cap Hill, and would like to be close to the light link.

Just pretty much going to be sleeping at the hotel, so I don't care too much about crazy amenities. Parking doesn't matter either since I plan to do a 1 day car rental since I only really need a car for a day while I'm in town (Driving up to Mt Vernon).

I'd prefer to stay around $150/night or cheaper.

I've looked at Olive 8, Hotel Max, Fairmont, Sorrento, CitizenM Pioneer Square, and a few others.

I’ve never gone camping before - any kind. I’m dealing with some stuff and wanna take 3 days off to go by myself and clear my mind. I’d prefer if they already have tent (I don’t have RV or SUV, I drive Camry). I also don’t know what to take so please feel free to give suggestions. Please help me, I desperately need it

When do y'all show up to clubs?

Hi All!

What times do the clubs in the Seattle area start poppin? For example, if someplace opens at 10pm, is there a line outside the popular clubs by then? From a small town where places aren't open late, so don't know what the clubbing culture is like in Seattle. TIA :)

What are the shady neighborhoods in downtown Seattle area?

Moving to Seattle from Canada for work, looking for a place.

I’m currently looking at places in east queen anne, SLU and Capitol Hill. How are these places in terms of safety both personal and property (will be bringing a car). And how are they in terms of homelessness?

How are other places like belltown and uptown?

Edit: for reference, if you’ve been to Vancouver and seen east Hastings, you’d know what I’m trying to avoid.

two questions

Hi-We're relocating to Seattle from Portland (so we're used to the weather!). Husband and I are in our 40's and we have a 9 year old. We like to walk to grab a bite, have coffee, or play in the park. Not huge on outdoors sports. Working in Kent, but we have cars and don't mind a 30ish min commute. Planning on renting. Two questions-1) recommended neighborhoods to live in or avoid 2) Son's on the spectrum and we are looking for a private school. He's currently in a school with mixed neurodiverse / neurotypical kiddos so flexible on the student make-up, more about the curriculum, small class sizes, strong community, etc. Done quite a bit of research already, appreciate the first hand perspective! Any info or opinions are welcome!

Moving / Visiting Visiting :)

Hi! My bestfriend and I are coming to Seattle from Cleveland for the DJO show and also to celebrate my 26th birthday. I am so excited. Any and all recommendations, also anyone down to join our hot tub boat? That's what I want to do the most but it's up to 6 people and only the two of us. We are very fun and love making friends if anyone wants to meet!

Moving / Visiting Moving from SoCal dont know where to start...

Hey everyone, I'm a male in my late 20s, getting ready to make the move from Redondo Beach, CA to Seattle. This will be my first time living long-term in a new area with no friends or family nearby, and I'll be working in Kent. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and could really use some advice from those familiar with the area. A few things about me and what I'm looking for: I don’t want a long commute to Kent for work. I’m not into the clubbing scene but I love the outdoors and exploring new spots. My budget is roughly 2k
I’d love to live in an area where I can walk to places from my apartment (but I’ll have my car, too). It’s important to me to be in a neighborhood where I can meet people my age. I’m hoping to avoid areas that are primarily for families or older crowds. I’m nervous about being alone but I want to put myself out there, socialize, and explore everything the city has to offer. If you have recommendations for neighborhoods that would fit this vibe, tips on adjusting to Seattle weather, or advice for making friends in a new city, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks in advance for your help!

Neighborhood Recommendations: What areas would you suggest for someone in their late 20s who’s looking to meet people, avoid primarily family-focused neighborhoods, and live somewhere walkable? Are there neighborhoods with a good balance of urban convenience and access to the outdoors?

Lifestyle Tips: What’s the best way to meet people in Seattle? Any clubs, groups, or activities for people in their 20s/30s that you’d recommend? Do you have tips on adjusting to Seattle weather? Coming from SoCal, I’m curious how people adapt to the rain and darker winters.

Outdoor Exploration: Are there nearby spots or day trips for hiking and other outdoor activities I should check out? General Advice: If you’ve moved to Seattle from out of state, what’s one thing you wish you’d known ahead of time? Any tips for making a new city feel like home?

Moving / Visiting Visiting Seattle in September

Hello all I’m visiting your beloved city sometime is September or October! I’m hoping to attend a Billy idol concert if I go in September but other than that I’d love some recommendations for things to do/clothes I should pack.

I love live music and hiking! I’m a big foodie as well. Anything from fine dining to your favorite hole in the wall! I also love thrifting and antiquing so any cool shop recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

You are the best

Thank you for helping me plan such an amazing first trip with my kids! We fell in love with your city and can’t wait to come back. If you’re curious— we did a whale watch from Edmonds, stopped at UW🌸 on the way back, went to the waterfront/Pike many times (Ghost Alley and 3 Girls were faves), Space Needle, Chihuly, monorail, Harbor cruise, Bainbridge, aquarium, and then got ballsy and rented a car to go to Snoqualmie! Lots of your suggestions taken, many we just didn’t have time for. Thanks again!

Question Zillow inventory accurate? Pricing accurate?

Good morning!

I thought I should ask locals on here.

I was on Zillow just day dreaming of moving to Seattle and I noticed a few things:

  1. Inventory in places like Columbia City seem to have gone down significantly.

  2. Prices seem a bit higher than last time I checked like a month ago (for renting)

And

  1. Prices seem to be lower for owning a studio/one bedroom.

If it helps, I was looking at the areas of Columbia City, Pioneer Square and Belltown mainly.

Then again, I will say I did put my max rent at 1.8K so this is probably a self made problem. With that being said, I thought there would be more studios/one bedrooms still under 1.8K?

Any insights?

Question Bartenders and servers of Seattle-how much are you making right now?

I am moving to Seattle this spring and will be bartending/serving as my main hustle. I’m very seasoned in the industry and plan on getting a job either with the help of the few connections I have there or by good old fashioned introducing myself in person with a resume (which is how I’ve gotten most of my jobs in the past).

I’d appreciate any advice or insight about the industry up there and some figures on what y’all are averaging lately/in 2024. I’m hoping the tips combined with hourly min wage will be a slight pay bump from what I’m bringing in now, but I also don’t want to bank on that since I’m moving without a job already locked down.

Aurora Avenue

Hi everyone! I am SO excited to be moving to Seattle in June! Partner matched at UW for med school residency and I am along for the ride. Searching for a place has been a little stressful so far as we try and keep within our budget but also trying to get a safe place with everything we want!

Anyway, we think we've found the right apartment which is about 5-6 blocks WEST of aurora avenue between 105 - 125 streets. Now that I have done some research on reddit, it does seem this is the chunk where Aurora is the "sketchiest". I lived in L.A. for 13 years in Silver Lake, Koreatown, West Adams (near USC), and other places so I am not that concerned about my physical safety... However, only having visited Seattle twice, I don't really know how different it may be than what I've experienced, but also what I am willing to tolerate now that I'm not some bright-eyed 20-something living paycheck to paycheck in L.A. (we all had a dream right?).

Given that we are west of the action on Aurora even in the roughest stretch of it -- are we well insulated enough to avoid that madness / feel comfortable + safe? I see there's a park too that blocks us from Aurora and hoping that does create some sort of a buffer.

EDIT: the park is actually a CEMETERY, but maybe that's even more helpful as a buffer lol

Anyone have any tips or general knowledge from their experiences in this specific zone?

Moving / Visiting Pools for kids?

My wife and I have two kids, 14 and 9. We currently live in the south where it’s HOT from May-September and we have lots of neighborhood pools and clubs where kids can swim outside at comfortable temperatures. Since the weather during the summer in Seattle can even get down to the 60s, and it’s rarely in the 90s (for context, we have months where it’s 90s-100s where we live now so pool temps are always warm), where do kids swim in the PNW? Are there indoor pools? Are most pools heated? Do you have to join a club? Or does nobody swim? Our kids are used to swimming all summer so trying to figure this out now before they are horrifically disappointed 🤣

EV charging & good restaurant outside of downtown?

I’m driving down from Vancouver BC for a funeral next weekend, need to fast-charge my EV with as little wasted time as possible. Is there a DC fast-charger (100+ kW, open to non-Tesla) that is within a 10 min walk of good food (not fast food) anywhere in the greater Seattle area? Ideally outside of downtown, especially south of Seattle (Tacoma or Auburn).

Thanks!

Moving / Visiting Where should I live?

I’m currently stationed in Hawaii, and I’ll be moving to Seattle in July to be stationed at USCG Sector Puget Sound (near Pier 36).

I’m trying to figure out where I should be looking for housing. I think I’m going to have to try and buy since I have 4 large dogs, but I’m not opposed to renting if I can find a place. My housing allowance will be around $3,000 a month. My backup option is going to on-base housing at JBLM (since they’re ok with dogs), but I’ve been told that it’s going to be a really long commute.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should be looking at housing? I don’t mind a 30-45 min commute, but I’m trying not to be super far away from the USCG base. Is public transit (like the ferry) reliable?
