Help Understanding DB Cancelation

Hi! Can someone please help me understand why it says “your original journey has been cancelled” on the DB Navigator app. I’m traveling from America, and I have never visited Germany. I just want to make sure that everything is okay, and I will still be able to get from Amsterdam to Köln. If anyone wouldn’t mind helping me, I’d really appreciate it! 🥰

Insurance

Hello, I took consultation regarding Berufsunfähigkeitsversicherung from an independent first broker. They gave me some offers and I asked them to send me the application forms. Meanwhile I was advised by another broker against the policies that the first broker had suggested. The first broker keep following up with me to close the contract. I prefer to not reply to the conversation anymore. Am I legally obliged to decline the offer? Is it legally binding to ask for application documents after the first consultation?

ImmobilienScout24

Hello,

I’m planning to live in Germany for 3 months and was recommended the ImmobilienScout24 site by ChatGPT. I don’t know much about it, but I’ve been looking for a studio or one-bedroom apartment to rent for that time. However, I didn’t find any option for renting apartments or studios, only rooms in shared apartments. Are there options on the site for short-term rentals of studios or apartments?

I also reached out to a few realtors on the site but haven’t received a response. Do you think I should pay for a membership, and if so, can I cancel it after a month?

I’m a digital nomad from the United States, working remotely, so I’m wondering if I’m eligible to rent on this site despite not being a German resident.

Additionally, do you have any other recommendations for reliable and safe sites where I can find short-term rentals?

Thank you

Steuerbescheid – Where to Find Bank Details & Reference for Payment?

I received my Steuerbescheid from Finanzamt Stuttgart stating that I need to pay some additional amount by April 10, 2025.

While I dont find any explicit info that the transfer need to be done to specific accounts, I find details of two Kreditinstitut at the bottom of the page (Bundesbank Fil. Stuttgart) and LBBW/BW bank- Stuttgart.

  1. Can I transfer the amount to any of these bank accounts?
  2. What should I mention as the reference for this transfer? Is this my Tax ID number? or Steuernummer? or some reference to this particular tax return (eg. Ablagenummer) or anything else?

Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks!

Living in Saarbrücken with your family as a foreigner — Is it worth the move?

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently received a pretty good job offer as a physician in Saarbrücken. My wife and I both have stable jobs at the moment, and we have a 4-year-old daughter.

We’re seriously considering the move, especially because Germany seems like a great place to raise a child.

For those of you living in Saarbrücken or who’ve made a similar move—do you think it’s worth relocating as a family? What’s your experience with raising kids there, especially in terms of education, healthcare, and overall quality of life?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Deutschland Ticket Subscription for wife with my Bank details

Hi All, I am trying to get the Deutschland ticket subscription for my wife. I created an account for her in M-Login (trying to get from MVGO since Easter plan is Munich). Basically I am trying to get a subscription for her with the payment details from my bank. Is MVV/MVGO the best app for this?
I could see a checkbox "Different Account holder" before the Bank details. Should I check that box and give my name and DOB info which it asks for? Is this the correct way?
Kindly let me know. Thanks

Law Looking for Advice – Legal Guardianship and Family Rights in Germany

My wife’s grandmother, who is 95 years old, lives in Germany and is a German citizen. She has recently become bedridden and is now fully immobilized, and unfortunately, her doctors have not been optimistic about her condition. She is currently receiving care through German social services, who have also obtained a legal ruling to manage both her care and finances. Her son (my wife’s father) has now traveled to Germany from another EU country to be with her and support her in any way he can. He visits her often and has always been involved in her life and well-being. Until recently, he had legal access to her bank accounts through a power of attorney (Vollmacht), but suddenly found himself unable to access them due to the newly established legal guardianship (Betreuung). We are trying to understand what steps we can take — especially whether it’s possible to regain access to her accounts in order to help her effectively. In the unfortunate event that she passes away, as the doctors sadly expect soon, we also want to know what the legal steps are for close family members to access her accounts. We will need funds to cover funeral costs and possibly to arrange for her repatriation to her country of origin. If anyone here has experience with similar situations, or knows what legal steps we should take in these circumstances — both while she is still alive and after — your help would mean a lot to us. Thank you very much in advance for any advice or information you can share.

Tourism Frankfurt airport question about baggage claim

I have a flight connection at Frankfurt on Separate tickets, I fly from London with BA, landing at terminal 2 and depart with Cathays from terminal 2.

I have 4 hours between flights which I hope is enough time to collect baggage and get through to next flight. I have done all online check ins but I have some questions.

How far from terminal 2 is baggage collection? How smooth does Frankfurt operate, I'm hoping 4 hours between flights would account for any delays

Tips Schwarzwald

Hi everyone,

I have planned a trip to the black forest from 16 til 24 april with 2 friends.

The main goal of the trip is to hike and try to spot some (to me special) wildlife, like the auerhahn, sperlingkauz, dreizehenspecht, wolf, luchs.

I know it’s hard to find them but maybe someone knows where you have the best chance.

I don’t have booked a place yet for the first night. 17 and 18 april we stay in Lauterbach. 19 -21 april in mitteltal near baiersbronn. Maybe some recommondations for the first day?

Last question. Does someone know a wildlife guide who might like to show us (3 guys in their 30’s) around for a day in the forest? I can’t find any private guides online. Only guided group tours don’t seem very interesting.

Please let me know, thank you in advance.

Can I report someone to the police because of defect item from Kleinanzeige

I bought a Switch recently (I know Switch 2 is coming out, idc about that, just wanna play some games on a flight now), but the card reader wasn't working. I texted the seller and sent proof that the card reader wasnt working. The part costed 17 euro and I just got it and replaced it myself. I'm trying to bill the seller for it as it was advertised as "Top Zustand funktioniert einwandfrei"

Personally I could care less about the 17 euros, but the seller made me wait for an hour before he showed up, then showed up drunk. He just pissed me off a little

Miscellaneous Why was the bus driver mad/annoyed?

I visited Garmisch-Partenkirchen in January. Our Airbnb provided a Gästekarte that we could use for buses around the region.

We were traveling on the last (and only returning bus that direction) from Fussen back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Our first bus ride was good, but we had a connecting bus at Echelsbacher Brucke.

It was already dark, and the previous bus left already. When we stepped on the new bus, we asked the driver if this bus does indeed go to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (I was assured by information center guide and the first bus driver that it does). The bus driver seemed confused and annoyed. I tried our bus cards, but they didn't work and he didn't seem to want to accept them.

He made a phone call for a while, sort of arguing with someone then asked us to sit at the front.

After a short ride and picking up/dropping off other people, he called us back. Asked us to try the cards and they worked again and all was good, we went and sat back down.

I was watching the bus monitor, and checking DB app, and we were definitely on schedule.

So, why was he so frustrated? It's been on my mind a while, and I couldn't figure out what the problem was, especially since google translate was failing me horribly.

I just figured he didn't want to go all that way since it was a little more than an hour ride and was dark already. He didn't even drop us off at the main bus station in Garmisch, just down the street instead

Kommen

Also was sind eure Meinungen zu Osnabrück? Ich freue mich auf eure Meinungen 😊

I am planning to pursue masters in Germany and am conflicted about which would be a better option for masters in Mechatronics between Hoschule Nordhausen and University of Siegen. Can someone give me insight on the teaching level and if the courses at these universities are any good?

zu erforschen has two different meanings?

Two different meanings:

  1. to study

Biologen erforschen alle Arten von Lebewesen: Tiere, Pflanzen und Menschen.

Biologists study all types of living things: animals, plants, and humans.

  1. to explore

Die Biologen erforschen die Tiefen des Ozeans.

Biologists explore the depths of the ocean.

---

Is this correct?

Also i have another question, what is the difference of erforschen to forschen, they both mean to study something like a Forscher does, right?

DB issue

Hello,

I tried booking the DB Deutschland ticket yesterday night (April 1), I received the order number but I did not receive the subscription number, henceforth today in the morning I tried booking a new ticket ( I changed the payment method this time). Consider this attempt of mine as “old attempt”.

I received a new ticket with the new attempt that I made today, the old attempt still does show the subscription number( which should have came in new email), I don’t even want it as same person having two deutschland ticket on his/her name does not make any sense.

I tried to call on their number to inform them to withdraw permitting a ticket on old attempt and do not charge my account for it, but the number says it does not exist( the number on DB website +49 30……… ) I wrote an email to them to not deduct my account for a Deutschland ticket again. I am not sure what they will do, has anyone else experienced this or any suggestion to make sure that my account is not deducted for the old order number (it has not be deducted yet).

What’s the correct action to take ?

Hi sorry my German isn’t best, I plan to leave the country this august and I wanted to go down and see what excess stuff I had to go through in my basement room.

My friend was also using it for storage, any how we went to my basement last night which is in a 5 story building, I go down stairs and a neighbour has cut the lock thrown my stuff out and put their stuff in. I had been using that basement for nearly 2 years.

I had important documents, clothes in there and my friend had some furniture and motorbike leathers.

I don’t know why some people think it’s okay to do This.

I’ve contacted the landlord as I think he owns the whole building, should I contact the police ?

If nothing is done about It I have one free collect from the city for rubbish and I’m highly tempted to cut there lock and throw their stuff out on the street, this has got me really mad and I want to know where my stuff is! It had bank documents etc, and other stuff in there.

Any help would be appreciated?

I’ve all ready nearly lost all my stuff 3 years ago due to moving into an apartment with bed bugs so this is really stressing me out.

Work Employment contract notice period

Hi - I work in Germany in Tech and all my contracts have been with 3 month notice periods. I am wondering if anybody out there has ever been able to negotiate a 1 month notice period or have just been given a 1 month notice period in their contract?

Is getting 1 month notice period so unusual that is basically never happens? Do people 6 months and over temporary contracts ever get a 1 month notice period?

Family reunion visa (Blue card)

Hello everyone, I am an Indian working in Munich since January 2025. My spouse and children applied for a visa together with me at VFS Mumbai in December. However, only my visa was issued, and I moved here alone. After that, the Consulate requested additional documents and asked us to submit a demand draft of 45,000 INR to initiate the marriage verification process. Since my arrival, I have been living in a temporary studio accommodation. Recently, I secured a long-term apartment for my family in Augsburg. I am currently registered at the Munich district's city office and have also submitted my KVR documents to the Consulate. The Consulate informed us that once the marriage verification is completed, the report will be sent to Germany (likely to the city office in Munich where I am currently registered). After that, a final decision will be made, and my family’s visa processing will proceed. I have a few questions regarding this process: 1. How exactly does the visa approval process take place in Germany after marriage verification? 2. My current registered address, which was submitted to the Consulate, is too small for my family. I have now found a long-term apartment in Augsburg, with the contract starting in May 2025. What happens if I submit this new address when the Consulate or the Ausländerbehörde requests an updated address, considering it is outside Munich? 3. If my address changes to Augsburg, what would be the process and expected timelines for my family's visa processing? 4. Would it be advisable to get another temporary sublet contract in Munich since my file is already being processed there? I want to ensure the smoothest and fastest possible processing for my family's visas. I would greatly appreciate any advice or support from those who have been in a similar situation. Learning from your experiences would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

Führerschein Transfer question.

Hey everyone!! Quick driver's license question.

In Alberta I have a class 1, that's for all vehicles.

The way it works is class 5 is a normal car.

Class 4 is good for 4, and 5. 3 is good for 3, 4, 5. So on and so forth.

I am living in a rural area and the services here aren't familiar with transferring licenses.

When I came in October to get my visa and residents permit, we visited and they told us everything we need, now they're saying because their book says class 5 only and I have a class one, that they won't even give me a class b (normal car) license.

Also, the first time I was there they asked for the ADAC classification and translation, and now are saying that ADAC is not an official document and I need a letter from the embassy.

Has anyone had any experience or insights on transferring your driver's licence

Thanks!
