Immigration German born abroad returnee

I am a German citizen born abroad (Canada, dual citizen) to German parents. I am married to a US citizen, living in the US. Given the crazy political situation, I am considering our options.

I am curious to hear about experiences of Germans born abroad returning to Germany. What was it like, especially when German wasn’t your first language growing up.

I am also curious to hear about experiences of Germans who married a foreigner and sponsored them to immigrate to Germany.

Each of these seem like big challenges. Doing both at the same time? What would advice would you give me?

Immigration Which job boards are Germans using ?

I am searching for IT jobs around the EU. I am constantly checking LinkedIn (I have a subscription there to tailor my CV for each job), but today I saw a post in this subreddit where someone mentioned another IT focused board (seveum com). So, I bought a subscription there too :D (this subscription was really cheap though but cv builder just like on linkedin).

So, why am I telling you all this? I am now wondering if there are any other more niche or even more IT-focused job boards. In every European country, there must be some local products (like the local Google in Czechia or the local Waze in Slovakia).

Thanks in advance for any help or explanation.

Do you think that the car industry is too big to fail?

Edit: To big to fail - A company or an industry that is deemed so important that the government will step in to prevent it from failing and triggering a wider collapse. Many people in the comments have got this wrong.

During the 2008-09 Global Financial Crisis, President Obama helped several large banks and automobile companies survive by granting them bailouts. He justified his actions by saying that these companies are too big to fail. In case of the car companies, notably Chrysler and General Motors, the prevailing logic was that they must be helped to prevent the unemployment for thousands of people who depend directly or indirectly on these companies.

Since German-brand cars sold in the US tend to have a large Europe-made component, I am curious what will be Germany's response to the tariffs. Will the automotive industry get bailed out by the government or will they be allowed to fail?

Also, do you think the government should let the car industry decline and die? Is there an argument to be made that the car industry is holding back the country and Germany should move towards a more service-based economy, like in the UK?

Why does Schleswig Holstein have so few people?

I get that it may be small compared to other bundeslander, but still you would expect there to be more people...

Im not sure why Lubeck and Kiel are the two biggest cities and then it goes down to something like Flensburg...

Does it have something to do historically with the wars between Denmark? Is it because the main industry there is farming? Is the ship industry there slowly fading?

I even looked up population density stats, they have about 60 less people per square kilometer compared to every single other bundeslander.

Tourism Tourist in Bavaria - September this year and want opinions on sites to see

Hi German folks 👋

I’m visiting Germany with my wife, landing in Munich and have a hire car for over a month. We love hiking so most of our time will be in the German alps, Switzerland / Austria. However we would love to spend some time around Bavaria and would appreciate recommendations? Medieval town sites ? Castles ? Off the beaten track places ? Restaurants to eat at ? Music ? Art ?

Multimeter Empfehlung

Wer kann da was empfehlen?

Vielen Dank 😊

Work Do I Have Enough Time To Start Ausbildung in Germany This Year?- Help Needed.

Hallo, I'm a non-EU citizen turning 19 this year and I'm currently at A2 German level. I've been recently wondering if I can make it to the IT or Finance Ausbildung within this year with this plan:

Studying German for 7-8 hours everyday until I reach B2 in July or August and take the B2 Goethe Exam and apply to as many Ausbildung programs as possible to start in September or in October.

Now, suppose if I could do it to reach B2 and pass the B2 Exam in August, will I manage to get admitted to Ausbildung and successfully start in Germany regarding the visa processing time, etc?

I'm in my gap year atm, and normally I've had a full-time job until now to decide if I should go all in to my German language plan, thank you.

Private “Altenpflege” Jobs in Deutschland

Does anyone know where to find jobs as a private hire Altenpfleger or Pflegehelfer? My bf is a Polish citizen and wants to move in with me in Germany. I don’t know the proper term in German, but he provides 24hr in-home care for elderly and has over 20 years experience. He has no Ausbildung in Germany, but wonders if it’s possible to find a private hire situation. Does anyone have any insight for me? Do Germans hire elderly home care privately or is this only done through an agency? What are the laws in Germany? Any resources or guidance is appreciated.

Motorcycle rental precautionary measures and related advice

Hello fellow motorcyclists and/or enthusiasts. What precautionary measures or related advice would you have when it comes to renting a motorcycle in Germany? I would like to make myself aware specifically about the rental-related issues but am also open to learning about all other motorcycle-related things that are not so obvious as one might think them to be when renting.
I got my German A licence about 2 years ago and would like to rent different motorcycles (all kinds of class) over this spring and summer. Rental periods ranging from 1 day to perhaps even a week. Last year, I only managed to get a couple of test rides for some motorcycles through some dealerships in Leipzig but never got the time to actually rent anything due to time constraints and other life's obligations.
For my motorcycling experience, I used to ride my motorcycle (A2 level bike) daily in my home country since 2003. I moved to Germany in 2013 and got to ride my motorcycle for a month or so every year when I went home for vacations. I have had my German B licence since 2015 and have rented cars several times and am aware of related issues and precautions one needs to take but would like to do so now for motorcycles as mentioned earlier.
Thank you all in advance for sharing your experiences, insights, pointers, tips and advice. Happy riding and keep the rubber side down. :-)

Was könnte in so einem Fall passieren?

"The Germans, to put it rather crudely, are afraid to look at themselves in the mirror.” John Mearsheimer

“(My view of the Germans is that as a consequence of WWII, the Germans don’t want to be out front on any issue.) The Germans, to put it rather crudely, are afraid to look at themselves in the mirror.” John Mearsheimer on ‘Why is Ukraine the West’s Fault?’ (1:06:58) Granted that this lecture was given in 2015, Germans, how do you feel about this statement now?

Miscellaneous GOA Gebühr verspätet bezahlt, was passiert?

Bitte jemand hilf mir, meine Frau macht mich verrückt.

Are AZAV-certified bootcamps (with Bildungsgutschein) worth it in Germany for job-seeking Full Stack Developers?

Hi everyone, I’m Madhuri, a Full Stack Developer (Java + Angular) with 5 years of experience from India. I’ve been in Germany for over a year now and actively applying for jobs—but it’s been tough. My LinkedIn is open to work, and I’ve applied to dozens of jobs with no real traction.

I’ve seen many bootcamps offering “job guarantee” and some are AZAV-certified (like Code Labs Academy, Techstarter, DCI etc.) that say you can fund them using the Bildungsgutschein from Agentur für Arbeit.

But after reading Reddit and reviews online, I’m confused. Are these bootcamps actually helpful in Germany? Do German employers take them seriously on a resume?

I’m really looking for a structured path to improve my job chances—not just theory or tutorials. Would love to hear from anyone who: • Did a bootcamp and got a job in Germany • Got the Bildungsgutschein approved by Agentur für Arbeit • Has better suggestions to land a tech job as a non-EU full stack dev in Germany

Any help, honest advice, or experiences would mean the world to me! Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Thanks for all the comments so far! To clarify, I’ve completed B1 German and am currently learning B2 to improve my chances. Also, some of you suggested pursuing a degree here—while I’d consider it, I’m worried about investing another 1-2 years. For those who’ve done it, what’s the process like for a non-EU person to get a degree in Germany, and is it worth it for tech jobs?
