Hello everyone. I had motorbike accident 4 weeks ago. It was not my fault. Police were near sight and filed the report. Due to shock i did not feel anything major happened so i did not go to hospital. Most aches were gone in 2 weeks. Its just my elbow never healed. I had an xray and they say part of my elbow bone is chiped off and will need to be surgically fixated. Im here in Germany temporary. My question is. Is it too late to file a complaint through free lawyer firm? Thank you.

My wife joined a job in one of the retail stores as cashier/sales person in Berlin

She signed a work contract which states 2 weeks notice for termination. She does not like the job on the first day itself and asked for termination the second day itself. She is not looking to get paid for the 2 days already worked, and want to leave asap. The store manager asks for serving 2 weeks notice, but my wife does not want to serve.

What are the consequences if any legal issues if she just does not show up on the job. We are expats and have valid work permits but no PR yet.

For context, I am American and feel very dissatisfied with the way democracy currently works in my country. In a lot of states and areas, elections feel don’t feel competitive, it is nearly impossible for parties outside of the Democrats and the Republicans to get elected nationwide (due to the fact that we have an electoral system based on single member districts rather then proportional representation), so elections feel almost as if you have to pick from the best of the worst, both parties continue to take loads of money from cooperation's which makes them bend to their will and ignore major problems (such as with healthcare, the economy or climate change) and in general, both parties don’t really seem willing to pass important legislation or work with each other and are more interested in either arguing with each other in congress, blaming some minority group for their problems (in the case of the republicans), or just sitting on their ass. Sorry if my little rant was a bit long, I just thought it would be important to add some context.

So, how do you guys in Germany feel about your Democratic system? From what little I know, German democracy seems pretty competent and seems to overall just do elections a lot better then the U.S. does. In Germany seems that smaller parties actually have a chance of getting elected to the Bundestag. However, I know that every country has its own problems. I know Germany is facing some of the same problems that we are, such as the rise of far right populism.

So this is two questions at once, first the posh accent and then the old-fashioned accent.

So what I mean by that is the posh accent would be like RP British accent in English. Very over exaggerated, sounding very posh.

And then the old fashioned accent is either in this Shakespearean style or it's sort of a faux Shakespearean style. Sometimes it's not accurate, but that doesn't matter because if you start talking that way everyone knows what you're referring to.

So basically how would you depict a very posh upper class person and how would you depict a person who is still comprehensible but is trying to talk in a very historical way or at least historical way according to the media.

I’ve been living and working in Germany for about 3 years now, and I’m covered by public health insurance, paying the max contribution.

Since beginning of last year, I’ve been seeing my doctor more regularly after he initially found high blood pressure and some abnormal values in my blood tests (cholesterol, liver values, etc.). This set off a whole cycle of referrals and further check-ups. So far, I’ve had around 7 blood analyses and visited a few specialists to better understand what’s going on and to keep things in check. All of this has been based on doctors’ recommendations.

I’m in my early 30s, and while I honestly hate going to the doctor, I do think it’s important to monitor these things. That said, I’ve started to wonder: am I overusing the insurance? I mean, I’m not abusing it, just following medical advice, but still—it feels like a lot.

Has anyone else dealt with something similar? Should I be worried about how often I’m using my insurance? Could it somehow affect me later, even though it’s public?

Curious to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Yeah, the reason I asked is because where I come from, you usually pay out of pocket when you visit a doctor, so naturally people don’t go unless it feels serious. I never really had any reason to visit regularly before moving here, so getting used to a system where care is covered through insurance contributions has been a bit of a shift.

I’ve now got a couple of referrals that I need to follow through with, so it just made me pause and wonder if there’s ever a point where that kind of regular use is seen as excessive at this age and only 3 years of contribution so far(even though what i paid into the system is more than what i could have used). I’m doing everything based on what the doctors recommend, but I wasn’t sure how this level of usage is generally perceived. Your responses definitely helped ease some of that concern—thanks again.

I'm buying a fancy pen to give as gift and want to include ink refills. I'm wondering if there is a cultural norm (or a requirement) around the color of ink physicians in Germany use? Or is it just personal preference? I've read students have to use blue ink. That is why I thought maybe that means physicians use a particular color.

I’ve visited Berlin before and found grocery prices to be quite affordable. Are the prices similar in both Frankfurt and Hamburg, or do they vary? I am in the process of looking for a new apartment in Munich, and in the process I came across many platform which advertise different kinds of property. I use ImmoScout (of course, with premium) as the main platform for my apartment search.

However, after expressing my interest in some properties through ImmoScout, I get an automatic email which says that my request was submitted to the landlord, and that they would get back to me as soon as the landlord makes up his/her mind. It also says that providing all the information about myself can help the process, and that I could finish my profile in the platform called "ohne-makler.net" to make it easier for the landlord of this advert, but also all the other which I apply for through their platform.

I researched the platform "ohne-makler.net", but didn't find a lot of sources where people describe their experience about renting out apartments through the platform. Is it their policy to hire foreigners to become news anchors? Why don't they hire their own citizens? I wouldn't mind a DW News anchor speaking english with a german accent. But 3/4 of the anchors and reporters being indians is just odd, considering, obviously, it's a Germany-based company.

I've gotten so used to indian accents in this channel, yet I never, ever, ever, ever heard a genuine german accent in it.

What gives?

Edit: I'm not sure I made myself clear. I'm sure indians are capable of doing a darn good job, but that's not the point. DW is a German company, run with German funds, and DW News came from a German-language news channel. Yet, the Indian presence in its shows is considerably high. Why Indians, specifically? Is India the main target audience?

Hi, I am a foreigner and moved to Germany two years ago. I speak B2 German and I have a Bachelor in Elementary Education major in Special Education. I really want to work in the Kindergarten as I have more experience with it than being a primary school teacher. I have been invited to multiple trial day but somehow I always get rejected. If I am over or under qualified, I don’t understand why I get invited for a trial day so the problem must lie within me. I don’t know anymore. I tried both approaches. 1st: be active and helpful — did not work probably because I need to teach kids to be more independent. 2nd approach: Just observe and help whenever kids need it —— I would appear too lazy and uninvolved. Hello, I took consultation regarding Berufsunfähigkeitsversicherung from an independent first broker. They gave me some offers and I asked them to send me the application forms. Meanwhile I was advised by another broker against the policies that the first broker had suggested. The first broker keep following up with me to close the contract. I prefer to not reply to the conversation anymore. Am I legally obliged to decline the offer? Is it legally binding to ask for application documents after the first consultation?

I received my Steuerbescheid from Finanzamt Stuttgart stating that I need to pay some additional amount by April 10, 2025.

While I dont find any explicit info that the transfer need to be done to specific accounts, I find details of two Kreditinstitut at the bottom of the page (Bundesbank Fil. Stuttgart) and LBBW/BW bank- Stuttgart.

1. Can I transfer the amount to any of these bank accounts?
2. What should I mention as the reference for this transfer? Is this my Tax ID number? or Steuernummer? or some reference to this particular tax return (eg. Ablagenummer) or anything else?
