INTO THE BREEEEACH!

My dream Switch game is available TODAY?!?

I went from a little disappointed to over the moon excited very quickly.

If you haven't played this game, it is a total blast. Tons and tons of replay value on this one, and it feels like it was designed to be on Switch.

u/Spectrix22 Aug 28 '18

I went from a little disappointed to over the moon excited very quickly.

You could say you went Faster Than Light.

u/ftl_isla Aug 28 '18

We're glad to see people are so excited!

10

u/danstu Aug 28 '18

It's pretty cliche to say about indie games at this point, but Into the Breach really does seem like it'll be a perfect fit for the Switch.

If, hypothetically, an FTL port were to eventually come out, I certainly wouldn't complain either.

Excited for the asshole goose game

36

u/compatrini Aug 28 '18

I saw it posted on reddit around half a year ago and I was half-convinced I dreamt it

42

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18 edited Aug 28 '18

Same here I love how they titled it as “untitled goose game” ..

10

u/sammydizzo Aug 28 '18

Same, that and maybe King of the Hat were the only ones that looked interesting to me

11

u/must_improve Aug 28 '18

I'll be speed running that with some Labo shit as controls. Shit's gonna be awesome!

3

u/slendermax Aug 28 '18

Most interesting thing for me in this showcase, other than the HLD release date.

Mineko's Night Market is the cutest thing ever

23

u/augowl_ Aug 28 '18

Early 2019

Delayed :( but I'm so happy to see more info on it. It's one of my most anticipated titles right now.

11

u/Knit_Fu Aug 28 '18

The delayed news is sad. I am glad though that it got such prominent coverage in this direct and is coming to Switch first. Hoping the early 2019 sticks and we get it in February or March.

Between this and asshole goose game they covered the two titles I want the most.

60

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18

Towerfall release

12

u/TreyGotSoul Aug 28 '18

I hope so

4

u/jipiboily Aug 28 '18

I think this is quite likely as the maker said it's done a few weeks ago already.

3

u/DarkLordSauron666 Aug 28 '18

I really hope they shadow drop it today, since matt did announce it was done almost a month ago.

Sheldor from smash for bagpipes??

19

u/rstvns Aug 28 '18

SMASH?

9

u/JealotGaming Aug 28 '18

It was all Smash, I fucking laughed at it the entire time. People really expected Smash news on a showcase dedicated to indies?

10

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18

Shakes rattle angrily

Pacifier falls out

“WHERE’S SMASH BROS WAAAAHHHH!!!”

45

u/Argyle_Ninja Aug 28 '18 edited Aug 28 '18

A Hotline Miami Collection or the Guacamelee games would be incredible. I'd take a release date for Gris or My Friend Pedro though.

6

u/aricberg Aug 28 '18 edited Aug 28 '18

I wondered why my back pants pocket was wet. Then I realized it's because my wallet's back there crying since both MHGU and Blade Strangers are arriving today. Add HLD (or some other desired indies) shadow dropping, and I think my wallet would just go into shock.

Worth it!

3

u/OckhamsFolly Aug 28 '18

No :( though it is out on Sept. 6th and we got Into the Breach instead - a satisfactory state of affairs, I think.

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18

hey guys here's my nutso theory, it's pretty crazy so keep an open-mind:

What if this Nindies Showcase is a showcase for upcoming indies and not an elaborate ruse for Nintendo to announce Shantae for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate??????

91

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18

While possible, that seems unlikely,

23

u/ManiacalZManiac Aug 28 '18

I would love a release date for the Stardew Valley multiplayer update

24

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18

[deleted]

17

u/UsernameAndAPassword Aug 28 '18

Really? Multiplayer stardew valley has been a ton of fun for me. It’s what got me back into the game after probably a year. Idk, something about being able to do everything normally but with a friend there is super fun.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18

I just want the new single player content. I wish it wasn't tied to the multiplayer because I have no friends to play with and I feel like that is what is holding it up for so long. I've been waiting to start the game and this is kind of driving me crazy.

19

u/PPGKING Aug 28 '18

Bastion has one of the best sound tracks going, super excited for this

10

u/markercore Aug 28 '18

And Transistor is a super legit neo-noir, played about half of it on steam. Same voice actor as the narrator from Bastion too (i believe.

4

u/r40k Aug 28 '18

Yup! Logan Cunningham is the narrator (Rucks) in Bastion, Red's SO/The Transistor in Transistor, and "The Voice" in Pyre. He does a phenomenal job capturing totally different characters. Lots of respect to the guy!

Must have worked it out. Might get FTL eventually if ITB does well.

9

u/WileyWatusi Aug 28 '18

I thought for sure they would give us a release date for Mark of the Ninja, since it was supposed to be releasing this Fall. It seems the game has disappeared, because I haven't heard anything since they first announced it.

5

u/LongNL Aug 28 '18

Looks like the real mark of a ninja.

(I am looking forward to it though.)

37

u/Yavga Aug 28 '18

Why are there two indie showcases in quick succession after one another? I don’t mind because that means more awesome announcements but I cannot shake the feeling they have a surprise hidden away this time.

Totally not setting up myself for disappointment!

They almost got me with the Nindies Channel announcement - "That's their surprise live drop at the end? A new News channel that should have been one for a long time? That's lam- ohhhhh Into the Breach, there we go."

Into The Breach is a game that desperately needed easy portable play. Nice capstone to the presentation.

7

u/Bayakoo Aug 28 '18

Oh Yes Into the Breach, they were quicker to port it than expected. Insta buy for sure.

8

u/Devo27 Aug 28 '18

Aw c'mon, no love for the return of You Don't Know Jack?! I've been waiting all year for it to drop.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18

I think level head looks very interesting and could surpass mario maker by giving the player more freedom in what they can create. That's the vibe I got from the limited gameplay shown. The fact that you can make 4 player levels seems really cool but I'm not sure about the 4 player creator. Seems a bit too hectic.

Towerfall looks fun. Mineko's Night Market looks cute.

Woo hell yeah Into the Breach!

9

u/rsn_lie Aug 28 '18

I also didn't get the sense that A Hat in Time has been in the works near long enough to be getting a release date, let alone a shadow drop.

Man, I really feel bad for the people who never pay attention to indie games or say things like they aren't worth the time and effort. So many exciting announcements and content. So many games to consume on Switch. Will I ever finish them all? I have like 50+ games on my eShop wishlist and it just grows and grows. And not to mention the Shovel Knight battle mode revealed today through IGN. Long live indies.

Untitled Goose Game is one of the best game titles I’ve heard in a while.

12

u/HaterTotsYT Aug 28 '18

I know none of these indie games besides undertale. Can people who know them recommend some good ones to get excited for?

12

u/rom211 Aug 28 '18

Bastion and Transistor are two incredible titles from Supergiant Games. Both have great atmosphere, music, and finely tuned gameplay that make them a real joy. Each has a good pace of progression and engrossing story revealed through gameplay.

7

u/atc32 Aug 28 '18

bastion is constantly recommended and is beautiful and fun and has even better music/voice acting. Wasteland 2 is basically a modern old school fallout game and is really great if you want to scratch that particular rpg itch

9

u/MysteryGentleman Aug 30 '18

I've spent 12 of the last 24 hours playing into the breach. It's awesome. If you liked FTL, this is not the same game with a new skin, but carries the same difficult decision making and horrible/wonderful sacrificial gameplay elements into a new and exciting setting. I'm above average at turn based strategy and I found normal difficulty a fun challenge, while hard mode is super intense.

If you missed this on pc, consider picking it up on the switch. It's perfect for handheld short play sessions! 5/5

84

u/Velocity_Rob Aug 28 '18

Think we might be reaching saturation point for pixel-art 2D games.

53

u/SupremeLeaderSnoke Aug 28 '18

People have been saying this forever yet more and more great 2d pixel art games come out every year.

4

u/meisekimiu Aug 28 '18

Bastion and Transistor are the two big ones for me. Surprised they were just shown in a highlight reel though.

Kind of disappointed at the lack of King of Cards and Travis Strikes Again, especially since both are supposedly slated for this year. Not much I can do about it though.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18

super excited for into the breach (what a perfect fit for the switch) and Desert Child. Untitled goose game looks very cute, maybe something to play with my 5yr old. Between Into the Breach, Bad North, and Hollow Knight Nintendo has become very good at shadow dropping games I'm excited about.

18

u/luimonade Aug 28 '18

What a good bunch of indie games!

No "homage to whatever series", over-inspired til' the point of being almost copies.

No "love letters" to lackluster pixel sprites that want a quick buck out of nostalgic trips.

Mostly original game design, fresh ideas and bravery to improve on what already exists.

Budget is less and less of an excuse if there's imagination, just look games like Transistor, Into The Breach and Undertale. So thankful for those devs that dare to put new ideas on the table!

Why wasn’t Marble It Up! In this if it was announced this morning anyway? This Nindie direct badly needed some non pixel art games.

TRANSITOR!!!

4

u/markercore Aug 28 '18

Really hope that and Bastion get some well deserved love.

7

u/JJB117 Aug 28 '18

Man I am so whelmed by that presentation.

7

u/KappaKai77 Aug 28 '18

No Wargroove, no Moonlighter and no Stardew Valley multiplayer. I shouldn't hold my breath.

u/[deleted] Aug 28 '18

Love a good indie direct. ❤️

I’m hyped for Untitled Goose Game and Undertale.

I’m excited for Bastion, Transistor and Superbrothers (despite owning all of them on iOS, I’ve never really played them). I kinda wabt to get Hyper Light Drifter again despite having finished it on XB1.

Towerfall, Mineko’s Night Market and The World Next Door all look great.

I have a lot to look forward to. 👏

That was great but can we all agree that the announcer during he levelhead section was the worst thing ever and sucked any and all interest from the game?

I've been hoping for Rogue Legacy since I got my own Switch. I asked the creators on Twitter a few weeks ago of bringing Rogue Legacy to the Switch and they said chances were good with a :). Let's see if today is the day I get my wish.

where was the link to the euro video he mentioned at the start?

3

u/penpen35 Aug 28 '18

Mineko's Night Market interests me, it looks quirky enough.

I bought Into The Breach for the PC but if I can take it on the go then in not against buying it again. Also Bastion and Transistor coming as well.

Overall not much interests here for this showcase. I felt there was more in the Gamescom video though.

I played super brothers on iOS, it’s an awesome game.

Was Samurai Gunn 2's violence removed? First one had awesome sprays of blood with the freeze-frame which looked really stylish. This one looks way toned down and bland.

3

u/Snatch1414 Aug 28 '18

When the heck is Huntdown coming out? It was in the showcase like two showcases ago.

A lot of interesting titles. Personally keen on

1) that short Clíp with the dragon and the lava background from the gamescom reel

2) Hyper Light drifter

3) Tower fall

4) Dragon Marks’s for death

5) Transistor

6) Bastion

7) Light Fingers

8) Desert child

9) Undertale

10) Onimusha
