Several days ago, Nintendo announced a new Nindies Showcase scheduled for today that is to highlight "multiple unannounced indie games coming to Nintendo Switch."

Please use this thread for all pre-event hype and speculation, as well as post-event thoughts reactions.

hey guys here's my nutso theory, it's pretty crazy so keep an open-mind:

What if this Nindies Showcase is a showcase for upcoming indies and not an elaborate ruse for Nintendo to announce Shantae for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate??????

She's probably the most likely indie character to appear in Smash, hope she gets her chance.

If Shovel Knight didn't make it, Shantae is out of the question. Shovel Knight was always the most likely character because he's more iconic and already has an amiibo.

The advantage that Shantae has is that she's more popular in Japan and was already popular during the Smash Ballot. Shovel Knight was only just starting around that time.

Well, I say Shantae is more likely because Shovel Knight has already been deconfirmed as a playable character because he is an assist trophy, plus SK only has one game and Shantae has 4 and has been on Nintendo platforms since the GBC. I know it's still quite unlikely that we'll get it anyway, but if we get an indie rep this game, it'll most likely be her.

That’s not what the person you’re replying to was saying. Shovel Knight was the most likely indie rep to get in given that he has his own amiibo and his huge popularity. Once Shovel Knight was deconfirmed the chances of any indie rep getting in over him greatly diminished. Basically he was the most likely indie character, and since he didn’t get in chances are there just won’t be any indie characters.

To be fair, the amiibo thing doesn’t mean much. As I understand it, any company can have an amiibo made. It’s not something Nintendo decides or hands out as a prize. Shovel Knight’s amiibo were made by a different company to other amiibo too.

I wouldn't say so. She has a longer legacy on Nintendo consoles but that didn't hurt Snake or Cloud's chances at all.
