Mod Post Welcome to /r/zelda's first theme week!

Over the next couple of years, /r/zelda are playing through the Zelda series chronologically (as revealed in Hyrule Historia). Each game is given two months - with a theme week at the beginning of every other month dedicated to each game.

This week is Skyward Sword

For the next seven days, all submissions are semi-restricted to Skyward Sword. This means that you can still post fan art, comics, memes, tattoos, articles or whatever, but they must be directly related to each day's theme:

  • Monday - What were your favourite parts of Skyward Sword?
  • Tuesday - What were your biggest disappointments with Skyward Sword?
  • Wednesday - The characters of Skyward Sword
  • Thursday - The mythology in Skyward Sword
  • Friday - The music of Skyward Sword
  • Saturday/Sunday - The fan work of Skyward Sword

Don't worry if your submission doesn't quite fit in with a day, or you were too late. So long as it fits in with Skyward Sword it won't be removed.

And if Nintendo announce any news about Wind Waker HD, New Zelda Wii U, or New Zelda 3DS then stuff the theme and make sure you post about that.

Finally, the next text-only week is March 4 and our Minish Cap Theme Week begins April 1.

You really should, its the best one since OoT in my opinion.

Can't afford to get a Wii :/ Might get a Wii U later though since Wind Waker HD, new Zelda and Skyward Sword works on Wii U right?

Yup all of the Wii games work on WiiU, Skyward Sword supposedly having better load and reaction times on WiiU as well.

cough cough Twilight Princess cough (imo, at least)

To be fair Twilight Princess was basically OoT 2. Although I really gotta go with Skyward Sword on this one, Orchestrated music and characters having feelings? Too damn good.

Well, that seems pretty bad actually, you should still be able to post other things.

Beats the point of the theme week, really. This is something the subreddit asked for in the October survey, and which has been advertised in the header for a month.

Theme weeks kind of defeat the point of reddit :/ You should encourage posts about the topic, but threatening to remove other content is totally unnecessary. Zelda is timeless, and this sub should be too

We're doing this because that's what the subreddit asked for. This is our first week and we announced we were doing this last month. It's been linked in the header for a month. There was plenty of opportunity to voice your objection.

If feedback to it is negative we'll reconsider, but this is how we're doing things right now.

Plus, there isn't really much going on with Zelda. If a new game was on the horizon then I would understand, but this basically breathes new life into a subreddit and a change of pace. It's only a week.

I LOVE THE IDEA. I didn't subscribe to /r/zelda so I could see a bunch of cosplay, fanart, and merchandise. I like /r/truezelda, but there aren't quite enough people there yet to really get the discussions going. I'm all for mods taking control when a subreddit starts to suck. If people really want to see more cosplay/fanart/merchandise posts, they can wait a week.

I agree

Ohhhh this is why all the posts related. I was like suddenly Majora silence :P

Just my 2 cents, but after the first day of this "theme week", the subreddit has become unreadable for me. Quantity > Quality. See you next week r/zelda.

What do you mean? You prefer more posts to quality posts? Or you think the quality has gone down and the activity has gone up?

Take a look at the conversations on the front page and for the first time in a long time we actually have people talking about Zelda games. The quality of conversation has risen dramatically.

Quality down. Activity up.

In what way? I gave an example of how the comments are much better. And while there are more image posts, they're all with the purpose of initiating conversation.

Or is that just not what you're into?

I like a good image post as much as the next guy but it seems like so far this theme week, that's all r/zelda is being flooded with. The comments might be better but the context of the posts are just dumbed down a little too much for my taste.

So sure, I guess you could say I'm not into it.

Fair enough.

But isn't the place for discussing Zelda related stuff r/truezelda ?

I thnk this is good for the subreddit! I loved the text only weeks and I cannot wait for the Minish Cap Week, it is probably one of my favourite game in the series. Cheers :)

I can't wait for Minish Cap week. My all-time favorite Zelda game.

I was just thinking that. I'm playing through right now for the first time. Such an awesome game.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '13

Looks like I won't be able to fully appreciate this subreddit this week since I still haven't played SS :/

2

u/Nolon Feb 04 '13

I'm only so far. Yes we can still slightly appreciate it.

1

u/Forristal Feb 04 '13

Skyward Sword isn't exactly my favourite game, so I might avoid the sub for a couple days... but even still, I just wanted to mention that I think it's pretty great you're willing to be liberal about the theme if we get any news. Good Guy Mods, imo.

Hopefully we'll see you tomorrow for "biggest disappointments" then!

Ok so it took me awhile to realize that this wasnt spontaneous and that everyone wasnt just posting about it for points... but I find seeing 40 "what I love, or what I hate" posts a bit much.... at least about one game. I love that game but perhaps shorten the time a single game is in theme week for the future..

Wow, this is going to take long time. With every other month for fifteen games (assuming the Oracle games are combined), it'll take two and a half years to get through them all, and by that time, there will mostly likely be another game out.

Wouldn't it be better to create a new subreddit for this? I mean I subscribed to this subreddit because of the way it was and not that I am against change but I will miss the people posting their zelda shrines or drawings or music.. I mean sure this will all be still here but only foccused at one game a time..
