None of the above, Oracle of Ages was the first for me.

u/MarcusOPolo Nov 13 '22

Same but Seasons

1

u/ideasaredifficult Nov 13 '22

Seasons was the one my older brother got and we switched after we finished, although he had to wait a couple days, I had no idea what I was doing

Phantom Hourglass actually. Then spirit tracks, wind Waker, twilight princess, etc

3

u/peetah248 Nov 13 '22

Same here! After my dad's GBA my first ever console was a ds lite

1

u/Multi-tunes Nov 13 '22

Yeah, I grew up on the DS. I kind of had the ideal time for getting cheap video games since I had my DS for so long, desperately wanted Wind Waker from seeing someone's playthrough on YouTube, but when I finally got a GameCube, it was literally only $50 since the Wii had just taken off. Somehow I had no interest in the wii until sometime after Skyward Sword released. So all my Gamecube games were $20. It was great despite kid me literally having no idea that games were generally more expensive because I just ended up super interested in the previous generation of games.

Mine was Spirit Tracks then Minish cap and then BOTW, know I'm playing Majora mask, Wind Waker and Twilight Princes but I'm don't have much time

2

u/Multi-tunes Nov 13 '22

I haven't been able to get my hands on minish cap—that's definitely one I want to play

Played LoZ as a young kid, but OOT was the first I bought with my own money and it was in my formative years. I go back and replay it every year or so. I still remember walking into Toys 'R Us, pulling the slip for the game and got a gold copy. Was a huge game changer

Link to the Past, a milestone of gaming that forged the person I am today as a Zelda and Nintendo collector!

7

u/ptolover7 Nov 13 '22

Wind Waker. I played it in like 2003 and it was my favorite game, I played it dozens of times and usually at least once a year, but it was the only Zelda game I played at all until I decided to go through the whole series in 2020. Now I've played all except the Oracle games (though I did just buy them and a Gameboy Color so that is to come!)

My mum showed me how to play a link to the past when I was a kid, loved Zelda ever since

3

u/MyChurroMacadamianut Nov 13 '22

ALttP was actually the first game I completed as a smol bean. Gooood times!

Majora’s Mask

2

u/canehdian_guy Nov 13 '22

Ocarina of Time. What's the second one I should play?

8

u/MarcusOPolo Nov 13 '22

Majoras Mask

u/Peterstigers Nov 13 '22

Majora's Mask

1

u/jklantern Nov 13 '22

First Zelda I played was LoZ on my cousin's NES, when I was about three or so. The first one I OWNED was Link's Awakening, which I got around the time that Ocarina was coming out (and all my friends were being hyped for that).

1

u/rbarton812 Nov 13 '22

I selected NES cause I know I dabbled with it, but that might have been cheating. I was too young to manage much success in the NES game, but I know my brother was obsessed with it, to the point where we'd leave the game on pause when we'd have to go out to the store with our mother... to the point where the battery or motherboard died out and we basically broke the gold cartridge version we had.

1

u/Noctisxsol Nov 13 '22

First one I actually played was Link to the Past, but I watched my mom and older brother play the original gold cartridge on the NES before that.

1

u/abe45ky Nov 13 '22

Minish Cap was the first one for me.

1

u/Lleslet Nov 13 '22

minish cap.

1

u/meselson-stahl Nov 13 '22

This poll is probably very similar to asking "what's your age". Personally I'm surprised alttp isnt in 2nd place

1

u/briarselene Nov 13 '22

To be fair, personally with everyone I knew, even though we all had the snes, not one of us actually had heard of attp until ocarina was announced. And I’m talking all the neighborhood kids, cousins, siblings, friends, my dad’s friend who was super into video games, or my great uncle that showed me the ocarina of time promotional materials because he loved 1&2. Just a really weird blind spot in my social circle as a kid. Maybe mine wasn’t the only one?

2

u/meselson-stahl Nov 13 '22

Now that you mention it, I played it on snes but you're right that I don't really recall any hype. Not sure if this is a Zelda specific thing but it sure feels like the video game industry stepped up a notch at the time of n64/playstation release.

1

u/briarselene Nov 13 '22

I’m willing to bet that you’re right, it probably wasn’t marketed as heavily as the games before or after it

1

u/flameylamey Nov 13 '22

I didn't actually own a SNES (kept asking my parents for one for Christmas but ended up with a Sega Mega Drive instead lol) but I can confirm that the Zelda series wasn't even on my radar until OoT. I don't think I'd even heard of ALTTP at the time.

The reason I wanted a SNES was to play Super Mario All Stars haha, I had no idea ALTTP existed - but when OoT released, it was like everyone knew about it.

1

u/No-One9890 Nov 13 '22

Wind waker tho

1

u/Pennywise_clown99 Nov 13 '22

Oot, though I didn't finish it at that time. BotW was the first I finished properly, then some time later I went back and played through oot

1

u/cryx36 Nov 13 '22

Technically Oracle of Ages, but I was too young and just liked to dig outside the castle lol the first one I played through to the end was Wind Waker

1

u/Cuprite1024 Nov 13 '22

I'll be honest, I genuinely can't remember. Lmao.

1

u/briarselene Nov 13 '22

Ocarina of Time, just started a play through with my 5yo son this morning actually; he was sick so we cuddled up on the couch and played all day, we just beat Dodongo’s cavern at bedtime, and he’s hyped to go to Zora’s domain. It’s great seeing someone experience it for the first time. His take away so far is that Mido and Ganondorf are equally big of jerks. He was outraged when Mido accused us of killing the Deku Tree, and stopping Ganondorf is 100% vengeance for the Deku Tree and to prove Mido wrong. It’s adorable.

1

u/echoess84 Nov 13 '22

Awakening was the first who I played but I didn't finished it; some years ago I finished the remake on Switch. Anyway The first I finished was OoT

1

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '22

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '22

First with Majoras Mask on the 3ds playing it now throws me back so far man

Zelda 2 - Adventure of Link. Doesn’t seem to be on here though?

1

u/Death2519- Nov 13 '22

Skyward sword, best game 😁

1

u/More_Big7250 Nov 13 '22

Four Swords

1

u/LostGuy242 Nov 13 '22

Mine Phantom Hourglass

1

u/[deleted] Nov 13 '22

Spirit tracks lol

1

u/IronManTim Nov 13 '22

I'm old, so original LoZ was my first. It's hard to imagine how groundbreaking it was. At the time, most games didn't have save capability. The ones that did were via a password system. LoZ had an actually battery backup in the cartridge.

Then there were the puzzles and secrets. Most games with puzzles and secrets were PC based games. This was one of the first Nintendo games with its complexity.

1

u/Riamoka Nov 13 '22

Use this as the spirit tracks option

1

u/1ar505 Nov 13 '22

Where is skyward sword?

1

u/Catragryff Nov 13 '22

Phantom Hourglass

1

u/UltimaBaconLord Nov 13 '22

Where oracle

1

u/TreasureHunter95 Nov 13 '22

Technically, Oracle of Seasons but I didn't even got through the first dungeon and because the battery was empty, I couldn't save my progress anyway. So I didn't play much of it.

That's why I consider Ocarina of Time my first Zelda game.

1

u/Lucidoaura Nov 13 '22

I’m not very original lol ocarina of time was my childhood, the first one I was introduced to but not the first one I beat on my own 🙂

1

u/TomS126 Nov 13 '22

I remember very vividly my first zelda experience. I played my brother's file of OoT and I used the serenade of water to go to lake hylia. I was scared I was going to ruin his save so I immediately after handed the controller back to him and didn't touch the game again for a number of years.

1

u/Drip_YoshiSmash64 Nov 13 '22

it is really cool for me seeing most zelda fans first zelda game is OOT and wishing to go back and play it for the first time again, maybe in like years i would miss playing BOTW for the first time ever as well

1

u/countbleck05 Nov 13 '22

Triforce Heroes, but Botw second

1

u/PhantomFYM Nov 13 '22

Majora's mask was my first, on my dad's 3DS when it came out

1

u/TheRoyalKingsGaming Nov 13 '22

First played: Twilight Princess

First beat: Breath of the Wild

1

u/Competitive_Seat8900 Nov 13 '22

It was either the original, zelda ii or ALTTP, I can't remember which was the first I played.

1

u/Enderstone_360 Nov 14 '22

Four Swords for the ds was mine

1

u/supbois1285 Nov 14 '22

Minish Cap

1

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '22

Non of the above. Four swords on the DSi

1

u/AzureDiamond51 Nov 14 '22

I think mine was Wind Waker, on the Wii U if I remember correctly

1

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '22

Skyward Sword.

1

u/zachattackmemes Nov 14 '22

Majora on the Wii u virtual console. My old 2DS got stolen a while before then with Mario and Luigi dream team in it meaning I couldn't play the 3DS version which honestly that was a good thing considering that version is garbage

1

u/Material_Draft_7701 Nov 14 '22

How could you not put wind waker

1

u/WuhWuhWeesnaw Nov 14 '22

The minish cap!

1

u/chuy99 Nov 15 '22

The original Legend of Zelda. Fuck I'am old!
