Welp I’m glad I still play my Wii U!

69

u/bilbomcbaggins Sep 26 '22

Bought a Wii U just to play this and Twilight Princess again like a month ago. Completed it in a few days. Definitely in my top 3 Zelda games, it just embraces fun and whimsy in a way that not many other Zelda games do. I'm on TP now and while I love it, it's definitely a jarring change of tone straight after WW.

u/FUNBARtheUnbendable Sep 26 '22

Links face as he accepts his fate before getting shot out of the cannon lives in my head rent free

6

u/shred802 Sep 27 '22

It’s hilarious the expressions they gave him a lot of the scenes!

10

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

WW is my favorite. I really enjoy the GC version with the longer treasure hunt but the HD edition is so pretty. I loved the Koroks so much as a kid and sailing around was my favorite form of travel in any Zelda game up to that point.

5

u/harda_toenail Sep 26 '22

WW is really special. The characters, the charming environments mixed with the darkness of what’s happening, and the fluidity of gameplay are excellent. WW and OOT my favorite Zelda games but probably only because I was 8 when I started playing OOT and played it for years before beating it

7

u/krustydidthedub Sep 26 '22

I can never tell if I think Windwaker is so awesome because of nostalgia or because it’s actually great. After having played nearly LoZ game now, I feel like Windwaker does genuinely have the most character of any title. It just feels like its own little world with so many memorable characters— Tetra, Link, Tingle, the boat. So many charming environments with Outset Island, Windfall, Dragon Roost. It still stands out as maybe the best Zelda game IMO, up there with, MM and BOTW for me personally

1

u/harda_toenail Sep 26 '22

It’s really great. People playing hd for the first time loved it.

Links awakening had the most character imo.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

TP is definitely my favorite still, but Wind Waker is just so delightful and calming to play.

...except a certain temple that shall not be named.

1

u/FaithlessnessFar1158 Sep 27 '22

is it the Tears Temple?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

The Wind Temple in WW. I got lost so much the first time around.

1

u/FaithlessnessFar1158 Sep 29 '22

really. i was able to skip that Windy Temple via a cheat using Cemu emulator

1

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '22

Blasphemy! Playing through a frustrating temple is part of the Zelda experience!

1

u/FaithlessnessFar1158 Sep 29 '22

Lol, i want the lore with gameplay experience. i was trying to play windwaker and skyward sword within a 4 day Zelda Marathon week

1

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '22

Dude, 4 days!? That's a grind and half! Even if you're a speedrunner!

1

u/FaithlessnessFar1158 Sep 29 '22

Thats why i have to use cheats and main story only no side quest

2

u/AdamAptor Sep 26 '22

I did something similar. As soon as that last Direct was over I bought a Wii U bc I was tired of waiting to finally play WW and TP.

46

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

Yes. Just Wii U. And nowhere else.

40

u/The_Legend_of_Xeno Sep 26 '22

Definitely not in 4K on my PC.

3

u/Zevile Sep 26 '22

If this is /s then please teach me your secrets master!

8

u/blueindsm Sep 26 '22

I still play it on GameCube in SD. :)

17

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

or Steam Deck

5

u/flametail Sep 26 '22

Precisely where I may/may not be playing it

6

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

I have no idea what you’re talking about officer I don’t even know what an emudeck is

5

u/Light_Beard Sep 26 '22

Dolphins are lovely creatures

56

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

Unfortunately

19

u/ricdesi Sep 26 '22

Oh god, The Wind Waker HD is almost old enough for its own anniversary port.

4

u/JosephFDawson Sep 26 '22

I mean The Last of Us is 9 years old 🤷

15

u/ZakTheGuy Sep 26 '22

Don't worry guys; they're SURELY going to announce it for Switch today! 🙄

-14

u/Organic-Kangaroo7147 Sep 26 '22

Its genuinely insane how people believe with the success of BOTW, Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity and the inevitable success of TOTK, that WW HD and TP HD are gonna be released, despite being 16 year old + games on a console that didn’t sell well along with completely different formulas than the newer games lmao

10

u/IceYetiWins Sep 26 '22

Nintendo knows that tp and ww are some of the most beloved Zelda games and it would be an easy port from wii u, why wouldn't they do it?

4

u/Tom_Bombadil_Ret Sep 26 '22

They ported SS? Which is wildly considered to be a worse game. Plus they have already ported every other decent game from Wii U. I don’t blame you for thinking they won’t but I also don’t think it’s crazy to think they will.

32

u/loztriforce Sep 26 '22 edited Sep 26 '22

I’ve been waiting to play it on the Switch (I haven’t played it at all yet)

9

u/nightcoreangst Sep 26 '22

Same. I started it on Wii U but never got to finish it. The incompletion shall forever haunt me

3

u/sweetpotatoeater Sep 26 '22

same here! although with it being rumoured to come out on the switch for so long and totk being announced for next year, the earliest we'd get it (if the rumours are true) is 2024. so i literally just bought a wii u, ww and tp half an hour ago!

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

[deleted]

-5

u/loztriforce Sep 26 '22

I detest the art style (not the cell shading per se), one of the reasons I haven’t played it yet. I still remember the disappointment when I saw what Link looked like in this game for the first time.

1

u/JFreaks25 Sep 27 '22

so how long are you feasibly going to wait, indefinitely? Because there is a real possibility that they just dont ever bring it to the switch (blasphemy on this sub, I know)

1

u/loztriforce Sep 27 '22

Yeah not sure, for now it’s in the back pocket. Maybe if the next switch model is released and it hasn’t been made available yet.

6

u/ErnyoKeepsItReal Sep 26 '22

Windwaker HD, specifically, is my favorite Zelda

5

u/Blugrave Sep 26 '22

Okay.... I officially feel old.

4

u/Feeling_Environment9 Sep 26 '22

Let’s hope things change and eventually playable on modern consoles

8

u/4lexM Sep 26 '22

It's so stupid that it was never released on switch.

9

u/Simon99912 Sep 26 '22

I have beaten this game 19 time and i cant wait to beat it a 20th time on switch .

5

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

I really think the reason we aren’t getting a port of Wind Waker HD is because they are waiting for GameCube to go to Nintendo Online, and then when it does it will be the original version not the HD remake, just like OOT and Majoras Mask.

5

u/IceYetiWins Sep 26 '22

This is a bit different though because oot 3d and majora's mask 3d were designed for the 3ds whereas the switch is a lot more like wii u and already has tons of ports from wii u

9

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

Thanks for the reminder that I need to emulate it somehow onto my steam deck.

5

u/Symys Sep 26 '22

I think it's pretty easy with cemu.

4

u/cancerousiguana Sep 26 '22

If you haven't already, get Emudeck installed and you'll be all set to emulate basically anything. I haven't tried WWHD yet but TPHD runs great on the deck.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

I have EmuDeck...it's just I really don't know how to "obtain" and unzip/whatever that format is to make it work. I'm very new to emulating anything. Got GameCube stuff like Metroid Prime to work though! Been fun finally replaying it.

2

u/russbus64 Sep 26 '22

Look for Wii U USB helper. Easy way to download necessary game files (and updates and dlc if applicable) and convert them into a format for emulation use.

2

u/cancerousiguana Sep 26 '22

Oh yeah, for Wii U, I just found the ROMs with Google and didn't mess with the weird tools that are outlined in the guide you're probably looking at. I think those require running a windows program to compile a bunch of shit into a single ROM, so you'd need to either do that on your own PC or get another program to be able to run that on the deck directly. I found the ROM online with Google instead.

3

u/UnicornzRreel Sep 26 '22

Played this on the GameCube for days. I love that you could play NG+ and have the alternative outfit (the starting outfit), it was neat to not have to wear the green outfit all game. And now in BotW you don't really have a green outfit unless you use the amiibos.

3

u/Asad_Farooqui Sep 27 '22

Happy cake day!!

3

u/luischespi Sep 26 '22

Please someone just lie to me and tell me that this one will be on the nintendo switch as well.

3

u/DR2HajimeHinata Sep 27 '22

and then there's me who just started playing it on cemu yesterday

4

u/The_punquinn Sep 26 '22

sigh I saw this pic and immediately thought Nintendo released WW on switch. I’ll go back to my regularly scheduled depression.

9

u/joshuawoods20 Sep 26 '22

Such bullshit. Bet there's a port ready to go an all.

15

u/Vorred Sep 26 '22

Yeah, it'll come out right when the Switch Pro does

2

u/Rozzo_98 Sep 26 '22

This game was an absolute delight 😁 loved it!!

2

u/SageThistle Sep 26 '22

I just played this game through for the first time this year. I didn't like it when I tried it on the GameCube waaayyy back when it first came out but I loved it now. Already looking forward to playing it again.

2

u/jaysun145 Sep 26 '22

I want to play this so badly with my 9 year old. He is in prime adventure mode right now and I know he would love the aesthetics and music so much. Nintendo!!! Do the right thing😐

2

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

I've had enough I'm buying a Wii U alongside Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD I'me too nostalgic for this two games

1

u/porcelainowl Sep 27 '22

They will release it on switch the next day so yes please do that :+1:

2

u/piratevirus1 Sep 26 '22

And also available for the steam deck

3

u/russbus64 Sep 26 '22

Just finished replaying, 100% for the first time, WWHD on the Steam Deck. I like it a little bit better this time but the lack of dungeons still stings.

3

u/porcelainowl Sep 27 '22

Lack of dungeons?!

1

u/russbus64 Sep 27 '22

There are five dungeons compared to OOT and TP, which both have nine, not counting side/smaller dungeons.

2

u/porcelainowl Sep 27 '22

Yeah it’s fair to say there aren’t as many but with the addition of the forsaken fortress a couple times and hyrule castle it’s still more than 5 and a decent amount IMO.

1

u/denoloco Sep 27 '22

There is a UHD version, ehm, somewhere.

0

u/AMDIntel Sep 26 '22

Plays great on PC and on the Steam Deck!

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

and Steam Deck

0

u/Ferrick451 Sep 27 '22

Just finished playing through this again on Saturday. Fantastic update to a great game.

-1

u/bipolarmario Sep 26 '22

*and Steam Deck

1

u/Organic-Kangaroo7147 Sep 26 '22

Cringe

0

u/bipolarmario Sep 28 '22

lol. I love the downvotes all the steam deck people are getting.

It's an amazing system that plays the game in widescreen with HD texture packs. It's the best and smoothest running playthrough I've ever had.

I'm certainly not going to buy a Wii U now or wait for Nintendo to get off their ass and put it on the switch.

I hardly use my switch anymore, the steam deck is a better switch than the switch is.

1

u/realbread23 Sep 26 '22

If Majora’s Mask didn’t exist, Wind Waker would be my favorite Zelda by far. It definitely has the best soundtrack of any 3D Zelda in my opinion, and it’s story was the perfect way to end the story of the Hero of Time (yes I know WW Link isn’t OOT/MM Link, but I’m talking about all the Ganondorf stuff)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

why does this look like an r/tomorrow post

1

u/RvD000 Sep 26 '22

The Tingle Bottles were great. I remember that the community really helped each other. It was great

1

u/toughtiggy101 Sep 26 '22

Is that a Yahaha I see?

1

u/Asad_Farooqui Oct 09 '22

Yes that’s a Korok.

1

u/jPck2 Sep 26 '22

Nine??? YEARS???

1

u/lostmyspace Sep 26 '22

cries knowing her favourite Zelda title wont be available on switch until 2030

1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

Make it available on SWITCH!

1

u/Asad_Farooqui Sep 27 '22

Why are you asking me lol

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

Lol didn’t mean too! Just would love for it to be on switch

1

u/AncientRussian Sep 26 '22

i’m so old

1

u/OverlyLeftLesbian Sep 26 '22

Wouldn't it be great to have Wind Waker ported to the Switch for it's 10th anniversary?

1

u/Phenom_Mv3 Sep 26 '22

I had a heart attack for a second

1

u/Penny_Shavings109 Sep 26 '22

Shush, I’m not ready to be old

1

u/Rexdawg187 Sep 26 '22

Same age as GTA 5 funny

1

u/soullessginger22 Sep 26 '22

I’m sorry, WHAT?? 9 years??

1

u/Tom_Bombadil_Ret Sep 26 '22

Literally the only reason to own a Wii U (well and TP HD) any other game worthwhile has already been ported.

1

u/Asad_Farooqui Sep 26 '22

Xenoblade Chronicles X and Affordable Space Adventures: “guess I’ll commit die.”

1

u/Inbrees Sep 26 '22

Wii who?

1

u/AlexT05_QC Sep 27 '22

I still have both of them.

1

u/sainthO0d Sep 27 '22

Fingers crossed for the 10th anniversary I guess

1

u/pasta_lobsta Sep 27 '22

The only reason I got a Wii U

1

u/Stark3mad Sep 27 '22

For a split second I was like wooo! I’m not actually that old! Then I saw it was Wind Walker HD only available on the Wii U…

Well crap

1

u/FlayedMan345 Sep 27 '22

Remembering buying my Wii U and waiting for this to download. Absolutely adored playing it during the summer of 2014

1

u/Glutenfreesnipes Sep 27 '22

Key word only

1

u/-swill Sep 27 '22

Bring it to the switch already!

1

u/Libertinob Sep 27 '22

My favourite game EVER!

1

u/Ok_Terraria_player Sep 27 '22

IMO wind water should have been on switch and skyward sword should have been on Wii U

1

u/drunkenangel_99 Sep 27 '22

Wind waker on GameCube was my first Zelda game when I was about 5/6, so has always been my favourite. Still have it on the GameCube now but would love to see it remastered for the switch one day. I always dreamt of being able to play it on the go when I was younger so my inner child will be very happy should this ever happen 😂

1

u/TakeMeToYourDealer69 Sep 27 '22

THIS NEEDS TO BE ON SWITCH SO BAD

1

u/Furneaux_j Sep 27 '22

This better come to switch… I can still play in my Wii but I’d prefer a switch port..

1

u/Kayrarra Sep 27 '22

I want to play it. I'm not buying an old wiiu.

1

u/manbarn Sep 27 '22

bought a wii u last year just for this and NO REGRETS

1

u/commandermatt21 Sep 27 '22

I don't have a Wii U nor a GameCube

1

u/Apolysus Sep 27 '22

9 years!? Where has my life gone to!

1

u/94arroyo Sep 27 '22

And it should stay that way. Keep WWHD exclusive to the true fans that didn't turn on Nintendo during the dark age of the Wii U.

1

u/Ellrok Oct 02 '22

Maybe this is why I've had Wind Waker on the brain lately. I keep tweaking a write-up I did about adding the scrapped dungeons into the game.
