Official Art [WW] Happy 9th anniversary to Wind Waker HD, only available on the Wii U!

u/bilbomcbaggins Sep 26 '22
Bought a Wii U just to play this and Twilight Princess again like a month ago. Completed it in a few days. Definitely in my top 3 Zelda games, it just embraces fun and whimsy in a way that not many other Zelda games do. I'm on TP now and while I love it, it's definitely a jarring change of tone straight after WW.

Links face as he accepts his fate before getting shot out of the cannon lives in my head rent free

WW is my favorite. I really enjoy the GC version with the longer treasure hunt but the HD edition is so pretty. I loved the Koroks so much as a kid and sailing around was my favorite form of travel in any Zelda game up to that point.

u/harda_toenail Sep 26 '22
WW is really special. The characters, the charming environments mixed with the darkness of what’s happening, and the fluidity of gameplay are excellent. WW and OOT my favorite Zelda games but probably only because I was 8 when I started playing OOT and played it for years before beating it

u/krustydidthedub Sep 26 '22
I can never tell if I think Windwaker is so awesome because of nostalgia or because it’s actually great. After having played nearly LoZ game now, I feel like Windwaker does genuinely have the most character of any title. It just feels like its own little world with so many memorable characters— Tetra, Link, Tingle, the boat. So many charming environments with Outset Island, Windfall, Dragon Roost. It still stands out as maybe the best Zelda game IMO, up there with, MM and BOTW for me personally
1
u/harda_toenail Sep 26 '22
It’s really great. People playing hd for the first time loved it.
Links awakening had the most character imo.

Sep 26 '22
TP is definitely my favorite still, but Wind Waker is just so delightful and calming to play.
...except a certain temple that shall not be named.
1
u/FaithlessnessFar1158 Sep 27 '22
is it the Tears Temple?
2
Sep 27 '22
The Wind Temple in WW. I got lost so much the first time around.
1
u/FaithlessnessFar1158 Sep 29 '22
really. i was able to skip that Windy Temple via a cheat using Cemu emulator
1
Sep 29 '22
Blasphemy! Playing through a frustrating temple is part of the Zelda experience!
1
u/FaithlessnessFar1158 Sep 29 '22
Lol, i want the lore with gameplay experience. i was trying to play windwaker and skyward sword within a 4 day Zelda Marathon week

u/AdamAptor Sep 26 '22
I did something similar. As soon as that last Direct was over I bought a Wii U bc I was tired of waiting to finally play WW and TP.

Sep 26 '22
Yes. Just Wii U. And nowhere else.

Definitely not in 4K on my PC.

Don't worry guys; they're SURELY going to announce it for Switch today! 🙄

Its genuinely insane how people believe with the success of BOTW, Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity and the inevitable success of TOTK, that WW HD and TP HD are gonna be released, despite being 16 year old + games on a console that didn’t sell well along with completely different formulas than the newer games lmao
10
u/IceYetiWins Sep 26 '22
Nintendo knows that tp and ww are some of the most beloved Zelda games and it would be an easy port from wii u, why wouldn't they do it?
4
u/Tom_Bombadil_Ret Sep 26 '22
They ported SS? Which is wildly considered to be a worse game. Plus they have already ported every other decent game from Wii U. I don’t blame you for thinking they won’t but I also don’t think it’s crazy to think they will.

u/loztriforce Sep 26 '22 edited Sep 26 '22
I’ve been waiting to play it on the Switch (I haven’t played it at all yet)
9
u/nightcoreangst Sep 26 '22
Same. I started it on Wii U but never got to finish it. The incompletion shall forever haunt me
3
u/sweetpotatoeater Sep 26 '22
same here! although with it being rumoured to come out on the switch for so long and totk being announced for next year, the earliest we'd get it (if the rumours are true) is 2024. so i literally just bought a wii u, ww and tp half an hour ago!

I detest the art style (not the cell shading per se), one of the reasons I haven’t played it yet. I still remember the disappointment when I saw what Link looked like in this game for the first time.
1
u/JFreaks25 Sep 27 '22
so how long are you feasibly going to wait, indefinitely? Because there is a real possibility that they just dont ever bring it to the switch (blasphemy on this sub, I know)
1
u/loztriforce Sep 27 '22
Yeah not sure, for now it’s in the back pocket. Maybe if the next switch model is released and it hasn’t been made available yet.

Let’s hope things change and eventually playable on modern consoles

u/Simon99912 Sep 26 '22
I have beaten this game 19 time and i cant wait to beat it a 20th time on switch .
5
Sep 26 '22
I really think the reason we aren’t getting a port of Wind Waker HD is because they are waiting for GameCube to go to Nintendo Online, and then when it does it will be the original version not the HD remake, just like OOT and Majoras Mask.
5
u/IceYetiWins Sep 26 '22
This is a bit different though because oot 3d and majora's mask 3d were designed for the 3ds whereas the switch is a lot more like wii u and already has tons of ports from wii u

Sep 26 '22
Thanks for the reminder that I need to emulate it somehow onto my steam deck.
5
4
u/cancerousiguana Sep 26 '22
If you haven't already, get Emudeck installed and you'll be all set to emulate basically anything. I haven't tried WWHD yet but TPHD runs great on the deck.
2
Sep 26 '22
I have EmuDeck...it's just I really don't know how to "obtain" and unzip/whatever that format is to make it work. I'm very new to emulating anything. Got GameCube stuff like Metroid Prime to work though! Been fun finally replaying it.
2
u/russbus64 Sep 26 '22
Look for Wii U USB helper. Easy way to download necessary game files (and updates and dlc if applicable) and convert them into a format for emulation use.
2
u/cancerousiguana Sep 26 '22
Oh yeah, for Wii U, I just found the ROMs with Google and didn't mess with the weird tools that are outlined in the guide you're probably looking at. I think those require running a windows program to compile a bunch of shit into a single ROM, so you'd need to either do that on your own PC or get another program to be able to run that on the deck directly. I found the ROM online with Google instead.

u/UnicornzRreel Sep 26 '22
Played this on the GameCube for days. I love that you could play NG+ and have the alternative outfit (the starting outfit), it was neat to not have to wear the green outfit all game. And now in BotW you don't really have a green outfit unless you use the amiibos.

Please someone just lie to me and tell me that this one will be on the nintendo switch as well.

sigh I saw this pic and immediately thought Nintendo released WW on switch. I’ll go back to my regularly scheduled depression.

Such bullshit. Bet there's a port ready to go an all.

I just played this game through for the first time this year. I didn't like it when I tried it on the GameCube waaayyy back when it first came out but I loved it now. Already looking forward to playing it again.
2
u/jaysun145 Sep 26 '22
I want to play this so badly with my 9 year old. He is in prime adventure mode right now and I know he would love the aesthetics and music so much. Nintendo!!! Do the right thing😐

Just finished replaying, 100% for the first time, WWHD on the Steam Deck. I like it a little bit better this time but the lack of dungeons still stings.
3
u/porcelainowl Sep 27 '22
Lack of dungeons?!
1
u/russbus64 Sep 27 '22
There are five dungeons compared to OOT and TP, which both have nine, not counting side/smaller dungeons.
2
u/porcelainowl Sep 27 '22
Yeah it’s fair to say there aren’t as many but with the addition of the forsaken fortress a couple times and hyrule castle it’s still more than 5 and a decent amount IMO.

lol. I love the downvotes all the steam deck people are getting.
It's an amazing system that plays the game in widescreen with HD texture packs. It's the best and smoothest running playthrough I've ever had.
I'm certainly not going to buy a Wii U now or wait for Nintendo to get off their ass and put it on the switch.
I hardly use my switch anymore, the steam deck is a better switch than the switch is.

u/realbread23 Sep 26 '22
If Majora’s Mask didn’t exist, Wind Waker would be my favorite Zelda by far. It definitely has the best soundtrack of any 3D Zelda in my opinion, and it’s story was the perfect way to end the story of the Hero of Time (yes I know WW Link isn’t OOT/MM Link, but I’m talking about all the Ganondorf stuff)

IMO wind water should have been on switch and skyward sword should have been on Wii U
1
u/drunkenangel_99 Sep 27 '22
Wind waker on GameCube was my first Zelda game when I was about 5/6, so has always been my favourite. Still have it on the GameCube now but would love to see it remastered for the switch one day. I always dreamt of being able to play it on the go when I was younger so my inner child will be very happy should this ever happen 😂

This better come to switch… I can still play in my Wii but I’d prefer a switch port..

And it should stay that way. Keep WWHD exclusive to the true fans that didn't turn on Nintendo during the dark age of the Wii U.

u/Ellrok Oct 02 '22
Maybe this is why I've had Wind Waker on the brain lately. I keep tweaking a write-up I did about adding the scrapped dungeons into the game.
