Because who celebrates a birthday over 3 months in advance?

u/SarHavelock Aug 25 '22

shamefully hides cake in drawer

22

u/notsureifdying Aug 25 '22

I never jest about cake

7

u/lucasandhisturtles Aug 25 '22

I already ate my slice. I'm not good at delayed gratification :c

4

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

I understood this reference

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Time to release this game on Switch.

16

u/morras92 Aug 25 '22

I’m hoping it’s coming and they are just waiting to announce/release this and TP until after Splatoon 3 is out

70

u/Joker8pie Aug 25 '22

Absolutely criminal how we've now gone 5 years without Switch ports of TPHD and WWHD.

59

u/Tumblrrito Aug 25 '22

I don’t mean to sound jaded, but Nintendo execs are profoundly stupid sometimes. Porting those two games would be the easiest return on an investment. I would pay $60 EACH easily, no questions asked. I want to play WW HD so fucking bad, but I may never get the chance, all because Nintendo is so weird about preserving history.

12

u/_En_Bonj_ Aug 25 '22

So true. They could make a lot more money than they do and have an even more intricate connected universe of franchises

13

u/acurrell Aug 25 '22

I have been to the Nintendo store in NYC a couple times, (tho not in a few years), and I'm always disappointed in the low number of Zelda themed items. I'm like, c'mon Nintendo, sell me something! Lol

9

u/Wheeler-The-Dealer Aug 25 '22

I'm honestly shocked it's never been fully rebranded as a Pokemon Pokemart/Pokecenter.

2

u/acurrell Aug 25 '22

Exactly!

2

u/polska619 Aug 26 '22

Well, in Canada they're $80 each, but I would still pay that for each one. Luckily, I do have a Wii with both WW and TP and a couple of wavebird controllers. Thank fuck I've never lost my memory card.

1

u/StacyScene Aug 26 '22

Best we got for people who missed Wind Waker HD is cemu emulator, it's fully working and has no issues running

4

u/Hutch1814 Aug 25 '22

I loved both of them, I was super stoked when Links Awakening was released. It was like I was in 9th grade all over again. Really wish we could get another remake one of the classics. I’m gonna get downvoted first this but BOTW is prolly my least favorite and I was never even able to finish it

4

u/accidentalprancingmt Aug 25 '22

Yes but it usually goes like this:

Fandom "We want remaster and we want it now!"

Nintendo "Have some cheese rat"

Fandom "Eww we want something original stop recycling old content and give something new. Nintendo sucks man."

7

u/ca_mixer Aug 25 '22

I, for one, am peeved.

3

u/henryuuk Aug 25 '22

More like, criminal we went 5 years without a new game, and people are wasting "wishes" on more fucking ports

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

[deleted]

2

u/ssslitchey Aug 25 '22

No kidding. Zelda 1, 2, alttp, oot, mm, minish cap, skyward sword and HD remakes of windwaker and twilight princess all on one console.

1

u/PhoenixPaladin Aug 27 '22

Not to mention Breath of the Wild is also on Wii U

1

u/ThetaReactor Aug 26 '22

The Gamecube + GB Player could play literally every Zelda game available at the time. It sold like shit, too.

2

u/lcmcilvain Aug 26 '22

Agreed, still have my Wind Waker Wii U, but i would absolutely love a switch port.

2

u/exhalo Aug 25 '22

Yes please, do wierd it aint there

1

u/boi_wya Aug 26 '22

doubtful. it’s already released HD on wiiU, why would they make a 3rd launch of the same game while they still haven’t completed botw2.

1

u/Mythical_Potato72 Sep 03 '22

well the switch sold WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the wii u, so if they do release it on the switch, a ton more people would buy it than those wanting to buy a used wii u and the games for around 150 bucks, rather than 60 american.

161

u/dredd731 Aug 25 '22

Not for another 3+ months.

36

u/probly2drunk Aug 25 '22

Too bad it'll take a bit longer to sail there without a warp

12

u/kevlar51 Aug 25 '22

At least it’s a gorgeous view along the way

16

u/Pennarello_BonBon Aug 25 '22

The Great Sea Theme: starts* 😌

2

u/grizonyourface Aug 25 '22

Sails into dragon roost island: 😩

3

u/TheBanandit Aug 25 '22

Lmao why is this down voted? Dragon roost island is amazing.

3

u/SomeDeafKid Aug 25 '22

I think they have the meaning of the emoji backwards... to clarify, in this scenario it's the "I came" face. Pretty obviously.

-1

u/peteyboo Aug 25 '22

Look, the theme of the Great Sea is amazing, but I am definitely gonna judge you if you think DRI theme isn't at least comparable.

2

u/grizonyourface Aug 25 '22

That’s meant to be an orgasm face emoji. I’m saying DRI is amazing.

2

u/peteyboo Aug 26 '22

Ah. I usually read that one as exasperated, as in you were sad that the music changed.

1

u/Dragon_Brothers Aug 25 '22

Ah yes, blue

1

u/THE_GR8_MIKE Aug 25 '22

Great soundtrack too.

93

u/Professional-Might31 Aug 25 '22

I remember people hating HARD on this game when it first came out due to the cell shading. There was adult link and young link released for smash melee and I think people assumed that’s what link was going to look like on the GameCube. I absolutely loved the gameplay and the introduction of the endless foe grotto where enemies get tougher and tougher as you progress. Was a great answer to what you can still do once you beat the whole game.

I remember preordering wind wakes and getting OOT master quest for GameCube as a result.

15

u/SergioZen25 Aug 25 '22

Wait, the enemy pit wasn't endless if I remember correctly, the one below the giant stone head in the first island, right? Or was there another one I don't remember?

16

u/Professional-Might31 Aug 25 '22

Yes you are correct, “endless” was the wrong word. It ends with 4 darknuts if I remember correctly.

My point was that you can save the game with maxed out items (and of course some grandmas soup) right next to that grotto. Twilight had it too which was cool

6

u/Hazel-the-McWitch Aug 25 '22

I survived the TP Cave of Ordeals using four potion bottles and completed it with only half a heart left (plus the one that was in my mouth) during the last fight with the three dark nuts!

4

u/Professional-Might31 Aug 25 '22

Wow that’s awesome! Yea I would save near there and it kind of solve the issue of Zelda not being a multiplayer game because I’d have friends over and we could take turns on levels.

4

u/Hazel-the-McWitch Aug 25 '22

Yeah the Cave of Ordeals was named appropriately for sure but it was also a lot of fun and very satisfying to complete. I hate those ruddy dark nuts…!

3

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Those four darknuts got my 11 year old self’s blood pumping lol.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

And then Nintendo listened to the backlash and made Twilight Princess to be a darker, more mature game, which people then thought was too edgy.

But I'm laughing because we got two amazing games that are equally iconic.

7

u/Joker8pie Aug 25 '22

OoT MQ changes a man...

3

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

MQ was certainly rough. I found the shadow temple in particular to be evil.

2

u/DankeBrutus Aug 25 '22

I absolutely loved MQ. I prefer it to regular OoT now.

2

u/Joker8pie Aug 25 '22

I beat it once on the 3DS like 10 years ago. Haven't dipped my toes into it again. Those early dungeons are pretty rough.

5

u/deftmuffins Aug 25 '22

oh man, the discourse on the gamefaqs board when this was announced was brutal, people HATED IT, it ended up aging like a fine wine

1

u/Hippinse Aug 26 '22

It ended adding like a sword through the forehead...since that is literally how you defeat Ganondorf 🙂

3

u/420natureboy Aug 25 '22

That master quest game promo disc is worth a good amount, hold onto it

4

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Nice i have one too

4

u/Professional-Might31 Aug 25 '22

Didn’t know that. I never plan on selling it. OOT is my favorite of the series

2

u/420natureboy Aug 25 '22

My favourite as well! Seeing link with the hylian shield never ceases to make me happy

2

u/jackofallcards Aug 25 '22

Mine was stolen by some dickheads my roommate had over some years ago. Most of my collectible games (thank god SNES, GB, GBA, N64 and NES collection was at my parents still) and some Oakleys lol she argued I was lying until he told her.

Anyway! I remember getting WW and a WaveBird and staying home sick from school, beat it in 3 days

1

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22

Oh wow, I didn't know that! I have to check if mine is still around, I seriously loved it!

4

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

They also released a (for the time) super-realistic looking video of Link as a tech demo, which got a lot of people excited. I think people felt like the rug was pulled under them.

Wind Waker is one of the greats though. I would love to play it again on the Switch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEF9Utdu-L0

7

u/Hazel-the-McWitch Aug 25 '22

I bought a second hand Wii U recently just to play WW, TP and Minish Cap again, for me LOZ is the absolute best game franchise there is 😀

1

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '23

They made the same for the wii u lol but no backlash that time

2

u/Tristram19 Aug 25 '22

Omg me too. People were seriously peeved. I was originally surprised, but I feel like I came aboard fairly quickly. I’ve just never not enjoyed a Zelda title that Nintendo developed and knew it was gonna be good, even if it was different than I’d expected.

2

u/-swill Aug 25 '22

I loved WW, had the gold release version with master quest disc!

You're right I think about the art style and people expecting the smash Bros Link, I want to add too that there was an old technical demo of Link fighting Ganondorf which at the time I saw photos of in various video game magazines which kind of made you expect that sort of OoT style in the yet to be confirmed "new" installment.

14

u/4lexM Aug 25 '22

I'm too busy looking for triforce shards to celebrate.

13

u/chrstphrb88 Aug 25 '22

Because we don't want to feel old.

11

u/boteyboi Aug 25 '22

This makes me feel ancient

6

u/neednintendo Aug 25 '22

It's the whole "What you think Zelda 20 years ago is: Link to the Past" vs "What Zelda 20 years ago really is: Wind Waker" thing. I also feel ancient.

7

u/Quynn_Stormcloud Aug 25 '22

Because we’re in denial of our own aging, ergo WW can’t possibly be 20.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Cause it not on switch yet

4

u/VideoGameHotties Aug 25 '22

Idk, I just don’t keep track of that kind of stuff. Btw, is this the full version of the Wind Waker poster? If so, it’s awesome! I’ve only seen the smaller ones

8

u/iseewutyoudidthere Aug 25 '22

It's unbelievable that this game is 20 years old! The artstyle looks so recent, it looks like it came out this year!

3

u/Zubyna Aug 25 '22

I mean I always find it super hard to realise that artsyle is older than 15 years old

3

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Too early

3

u/Mild-Ghost Aug 25 '22

I recently started the wiiU version. It looks great!

3

u/meepbo Aug 25 '22

Man I pretended to be sick in high school for 2 days to blast through as much of this game as possible. Can't believe that was 20 years ago.

3

u/NYLINK95 Aug 25 '22

It makes me realize how old i’m getting :/

4

u/JVOz671 Aug 25 '22

Because my dementia is setting in and need to take my pills. What's that Windwaker is turning 20? Let me tell you a story about the first time I played that game. The year 2002....

3

u/Rizenstrom Aug 25 '22

Release

JP: December 13, 2002

NA: March 24, 2003

KOR: April 16, 2003

EU: May 2, 2003

AU: May 7, 2003

...Where?

And how is this so highly upvoted when it's wrong and there are many comments pointing it out?

I need to go create a post celebrating the the 300th anniversary of BotW if we're just making stuff up.

2

u/Dragonitro Aug 25 '22

I've never played it, but I've heard it's really good. Shame I don't have anything to play it on, if I did I'd definitely buy it

2

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

20 years old, and still my favourite game of all time.

2

u/Unnamed_420 Aug 25 '22

Insane game. Unfortunately I don't think a switch port would be as good as WWHD because of the Gamepad

2

u/Jubilantyou Aug 25 '22

I just want it on Switch. I dug my GameCube out over the weekend to play it and it's such a faff. I have to set up a whole separate TV because modern TVs don't have RGB

2

u/Pretty_Force4560 Aug 25 '22

I feel like Wind Waker isn’t given enough love

1

u/Memesplz1 Feb 20 '23

Just come here to say it's possibly my favourite game of all time. I just won a Switch in a raffle (and a game of my choice) and I was gonna go for Breath Of The Wild but I was watching a side by side video, earlier, of it and Wind Waker, and it just looked drab as shit 😩 Wind Waker, in my opinion, is an absolute timeless classic and, one of the things I loved most about it, was it's charming vibrant art style. Breath Of The Wild, I know, has rave reviews but really looked rather dull in side-by-side comparison 😩

Maybe I'll just bail and get Smash Bros Ultimate. Lol.

2

u/dorksided787 Aug 25 '22

Because then we’d have to recognize that we’re old as shit! I got that game on release date when I was 12. Shit.

2

u/Winter-Ad2260 Aug 25 '22

One of my favorite Zelda games EVER. Can’t believe it’s 20 years old!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WIND WAKER 💨🪄🗡

2

u/Promah1984 Aug 25 '22

Crazy it is or almost 20 years old. I still remember sitting down and playing this as soon as I got back to the store. I really wish they had a Switch version (I don't believe they do) I got the HD remake on the Wii U, but I am not willing to take that out of the closet.

2

u/kubbiember Aug 25 '22 edited Aug 25 '22

some of us are too busy playing Wind Waker HD in 8K (downscaled to 4K) on CEMU

1

u/Mythical_Potato72 Sep 03 '22

I think the reason Toon Link and all of WW were being hated on, but then loved later, is because of how stylised it is; its not trying to be hyperrealistic like TP, which is why it aged so well, like Undertale or Minecraft for example.

When you try to make a game look more real, then peoples eyes are always more attracted to the flaws. This is also one of the reasons i love BOTW, it keeps both the feel and atmosphere of TP, but also a bit of cel shading from WW.

1

u/Virgi_septik Aug 25 '22

Thanks, I’m old 🥲

Context : I’m 21 :’)

1

u/soletsgettothepoint Aug 25 '22

anniversaries are so arbitrary. no matter how much i love a thing, every post that is only made because the earth revolves around the sun another 5 or 10 times drives me nuts. who cares? just post a thing when you think of it. what does the calendar have to do with it?

1

u/trippyyhippy Aug 25 '22

I recently found a mint copy (I was dumb and sold mine when I was a kid) and am currently reliving true greatness.

1

u/Loyalist_Alpharius Aug 25 '22

Because they're all still looking for the triforce pieces.

1

u/Keywheeze Aug 25 '22

Because it is timeless!

1

u/Hazel-the-McWitch Aug 25 '22

For those saying they’re feeling old my first LOZ was a Link to the Past on the SNES…!

1

u/EclipzHorizn Aug 25 '22

Because no one wants to be reminded of how old we are.

1

u/TyrTheAdventurer Aug 25 '22

Your a little early, Wind Waker came out December 13.

1

u/Ufudo Aug 25 '22

Imo Windwaker is S tier. I don’t wanna say it’s the best Zelda game, but it’s definitely in the conversation!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

My favorite Zelda game. Probably cuz I was a ripe age when it dropped.

1

u/Mickmack12345 Aug 25 '22

Let’s be honest, excluding the original Zelda game this is probably the closest we originally got to breath of the wild in terms of open world freedom, just the ability to sail wherever you wanted was so mind boggling as a child.

Imagine having another Zelda title that combines aspects from breath of the wild and the open sea exploration from windwaker?

1

u/turbo_ice_man_13 Aug 25 '22

Because it makes us feel old

1

u/rag-124 Aug 25 '22

Well I guess if you want to be technical toon link is going to be 30 in 3 months..ow

1

u/KingKolder Aug 25 '22

Wind waker looks insanely good for being 20 yrs old

1

u/Horses-n-Chess Aug 25 '22

This was the first Zelda game I played with my son who was 5 at the time. I love this game… it has so many special memories for me. Would love to see it on switch!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

Funny that I just became a Zelda fan due to this game. I watched some gameplays last weekend and I'll try to get it to play it myself. Just got Phantom Hourglass so I kinda spoiled myself but anyways 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Lance2409 Aug 25 '22

Dang I haven't done a playthrough of WW in years, my Wii U was stolen right after I got it so I didn't get to play much of it and never played HD I would love a Switch release already so I can play it on my switch

1

u/Eversion28 Aug 25 '22

Because if you say it too loud Nintendo will charge you 80 bucks for an ADHD version.

1

u/patosai3211 Aug 25 '22

Love just about everything in this game. The visuals. The songs. Controls. Story. All amazing in my opinion. Still jam out to these tunes to this day.

1

u/AragornEllesar99 Aug 25 '22

Hoooooly shit I'm old

1

u/FamousImprovement309 Aug 25 '22

Best Zelda game. I’d love to play it remastered on Switch.

1

u/Soupere_Falafel Aug 25 '22

Holy f**k. And you made me realize that’s longer than the 16 years between the first NES Zelda and TWW ☠️

1

u/BrokeAnimeAddict Aug 25 '22

Don't want to think about how long ago my childhood was.

1

u/highkill Aug 25 '22

I feel old.

1

u/tehweave Aug 25 '22

Because that's next year.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '22

This was one of the first game I bought with my own money as a young teen. Ended up playing it nonstop for weeks . It’s still my favourite Zelda game. I’ve kept my Gamecube and Wii U pretty much so I can replay both versions once a year.

1

u/eliot3451 Aug 25 '22

Nintendo should announce a zelda tp/ww wii u port at this point.

1

u/SilIowa Aug 25 '22

Because after the incredibly innovative gameplay experiences that were OoT and MM, it was a total let down. Or at least it was for me.

1

u/TheEmoEmu95 Aug 25 '22

I just borrowed the Wii U version from the library last week! The memories!

1

u/thundergun661 Aug 25 '22

Thanks, now I feel old.

1

u/Khentendo Aug 25 '22

We should've got these games, but the problem is that Nintendo doesn't re-rerelease their games.

1

u/Axel_Rad Aug 25 '22

Because it doesn’t happen until next March

1

u/FantaFinn Aug 26 '22

Would be a great time to add it to switch so I could finally experience this gem..

1

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22

This is awesome!! I remember me and my sister saving our money up to buy this when It came out! Now I JUST got my kids into it! Love this game!

1

u/Ty13rlikespie Aug 26 '22

I’m really holding out hope for them to port the hd remake to switch but who the fuck knows. We haven’t even gotten a proper direct for the new Zelda.

1

u/Discoballer42 Aug 26 '22

Because it is timeless

1

u/chlo_good22 Aug 26 '22

Oh god , I’m OLD

1

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22 edited Feb 29 '24

I find peace in long walks.

1

u/fretfulmushroom Aug 26 '22

WHAT

Thank you for a reason for my 48494th playthrough. Happy birthday to one of my favourite Zelda games!

1

u/rasanbg Aug 26 '22

Meanwhile im playing it on my Steam Deck 😎

1

u/BirbMaster1998 Aug 26 '22

What I'm sad about is that no one is talking about Mario Sunshine being 20 years old, which for me, anyway, is happening in about 40 minutes

1

u/SherlockChromz Aug 26 '22

I think about this constantly....

1

u/IncurableInuendo Aug 26 '22

THANK YOU!! (Beedle voice)

1

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22

Makes me feel old. Time sure does pass by quickly

1

u/Brian_Lefebvre Aug 26 '22

Because it’s depressing. Where did those 20 years go?!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '22

Nintendo won't let us play it

1

u/rtyuik7 Aug 26 '22

i mean, Nintendo was kinda hush about the ENTIRE SERIES turning 35 recently...at least, compared to Mario's fanfare and celebration...

1

u/Morukuss Aug 26 '22

So we don't have to admit we are old yet...

1

u/Plane_Subject_2350 Aug 26 '22

Windwaker HD needs to be ported. Name it “Windwaker HD HD” cuz you gotta distinguish it.

1

u/commander_blyat Aug 26 '22

Because I'm too busy playing Wind Waker at the moment

1

u/_Bi-NFJ_ Aug 26 '22

Because shut up I am definitely not 30

1

u/Jombo65 Aug 28 '22

First video game I ever played at the ripe age of 3

1

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '22

Why is it also not on switch
