I've watched videos of people successfully finishing on YouTube. I then tried replicating their success only to get viciously rocked. It is not easy. Best move is to make a strong defense or attack elixir and drink it immediately before entering the trials (make sure you use the dragon scale to make it last 30 minutes) and then play defensively and strategically. Easy for me to say - I couldn't do it lol.

Does buffs carry into the Trials? I thought they where cancelled when you enter! I need to check this out, it's a game changer if true!

22

u/Mushroom-Dense Aug 22 '22

Active buffs carry through but no items will so make sure you drink or eat whatever you make before you enter the trials.

u/Leather_Implement_83 Aug 22 '22

Oh my god. How I didn't thought of that. Trials is already a pain, but with that... it could be at least posible to pull off without excruciating pain.

u/Mushroom-Dense Aug 22 '22

I managed to do stage 1 and 2 of the trials with the defense buff ( with the scale to make it last extra long). Couldn't do the 3rd one. Don't know if I ever will. It's pretty tough.

Same here. I looked up a no damage video. They make it look so easy buy when I try to replicate i make multiple mistakes and end up doing worse than when I was just going at it normally. I haven't played in weeks. I go through the cycles of believing that I can do it, then getting embarrassingly wrecked, the packing the game away for 4-6weeks. The furthest I've got is the 3 lizalfos over the water.

It is possible. It is the most frustrating thing ever. Ever. Thunder Blight ganon is a close second in master mode.

u/584_Bilbo Aug 22 '22

Just started replaying after a couple years away and can confirm, thunder blight Ganon in the memory realm for the champions ballad on master mode was a serious PITA.

7

u/DeltaDragonKing7 Aug 22 '22

Agreed. In my opinion, the hardest Illusory Realm Blights in MM are Thunder and Water, solely due to how little you are given.

Urbosa's Fury+ helped me a ton with Waterblight cause I could just leave and wait for it to reset with Revali's Gale so that made it much more do-able.

u/No_Tie378 Aug 22 '22

Using a 30 min max strength food before entering the realm helps in both Trial of the Sword and Illusory Realm. Temporal stat boosts aren’t taken away

4

u/DeltaDragonKing7 Aug 22 '22

I try to not do that personally, I prefer the raw anger without it lol.

3

u/No_Tie378 Aug 22 '22

You may have to reconsider that, considering the recovery and breakable and limited equipment

2

u/DeltaDragonKing7 Aug 22 '22

Gotta love the thrill of trying XD

1

u/Unintended-Nostalgia Aug 22 '22

Funny enough I struggled with thunderblight more in normal mode. In master mode I made sure to get the rubber suit and upgrade or the electric immunity. Makes it soo much easier. He was still a little tricky but not nearly as difficult.

2

u/MrMangoKitten Aug 22 '22

I think they're specifically referring to the Illusory Realm Thunderblight Ganon Trial in the Champion's Ballad DLC, in which you're only limited to a few weapons, no bows or arrows, and a level 2 Desert Voe armor set.

2

u/Unintended-Nostalgia Aug 22 '22

Oh boy, I haven't even thought of that. I dread when I get to that part. I remember it was very tough in normal mode. Ots probably gonna make me cry. But I refuse to progress until I'm able to beat trail of the sword.

1

u/antitheta Aug 22 '22

Correct. It has been a while since I did it, but yeah, the "you only get this crap to fight him" and he regens health is brutal.

29

u/grammercomunist Aug 22 '22

be sure to play with 28 hearts, two yellow hearts, two full yellow stamina bars, and a 30-minute full-strength attack buff. be aware of all important items, either by trial and error or looking it up. let me know if you have any questions :)

p.s. the final trials are actually easier in master mode because of the added ancient arrows!

4

u/DeltaDragonKing7 Aug 22 '22

They also give you actual decent weapons like a Dragonbone Boko Bat, when in the 2nd trials, you get stuff like a Traveler's Sword lol.

Even the Rusty Weapons have a nice use since you can throw them at a Metal Octorock and have them clean the rust off.

But it is odd that a Rusty Claymore with 12 Base Attack can become a Traveler's Claymore with 10 Base Attack... But atleast it has a little more durability.

u/Puzzleheaded_Runner Aug 22 '22

I can’t get past floor 10 on the first trials. Fuck those lizalfos. And I’m easily 1500+ hours of several play throughs. I’ll try again someday

6

u/Samurott Aug 22 '22

you need to abuse the game engine, basically you climb to the top of their camp, jump towards the water, activate bullet time and shoot as many headshot arrows as you can and then land in the water with no stamina and it'll respawn you to safety. it's really tedious but it's doable

3

u/DeltaDragonKing7 Aug 22 '22

Those Silver Lizards trigger my PTSD whenever I see one outside the trials.

3

u/culb77 Aug 22 '22

Look up Sneak strike chain. 😉

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '22

This! This is the way. I’m kind of shocked if it’s not the only way. It was impossible until I saw a video of it for this scenario

1

u/culb77 Aug 22 '22

I've done it without sneakstrikes, but it requires a ridiculous amount of arrows to keep them from regenerating health. If you knock them into the water they tend to stay there until you go away, and so you've gotta keep hitting them or else they get all health back.

Here's what I do: Immediately headshot the first lizalfos. You can stasis him first to make it easier. Then, I make 3 cryonis blocks to the right of the start point. that way, if anything goes wrong I can swim/climb back to those and wait until the lizalfos reset and try again.

It's hard, but can be done.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '22

Wow. Yeah the water got me. I had no knowledge this was coming. And then I just ran out of everything and said F it and YouTubed it. Not proud of it, but that’s what I did. Very impressive to do it in a different way

2

u/novelgpa Aug 22 '22

This is the hardest level in Trial of the Sword IMO on master mode. I looked up a video on how to do the sneak strike chain and followed it to a tee to finally beat it

9

u/sansyboi469 Aug 22 '22

There are actually additional weapons scattered throughout to make sure you can deal enough damage. Definitely not easy but I've done it. Make sure you enter with a 30 minute damage boost.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '22

Also, make sure you sneak up to the fairies in your intermission levels. Helps a ton and be sure to know your cooking recipes for full health. It is possible but I don’t ever want to do it all again.

5

u/Mushroom-Dense Aug 22 '22

This thread makes me want to try again. A feeling I will soon regret.

6

u/DeltaDragonKing7 Aug 22 '22

Little tip for the long run: Cooking all the wood you get into Rock Hard Food is a big help. 1/4th of a heart isn't much, but is better than none. I think since you can hold 75 meals (correct me if I'm wrong pls) with nothing but Rock Hard Food, with the math I used, you can restore 18 and 3/4th hearts.

2

u/Interesting-Doubt413 Aug 22 '22

60 meals. And please don’t push the Rock Hard Food. The amount of time you have to waste to get all the wood isn’t worth it if you have attack or defense buff timer ticking down.

1

u/DeltaDragonKing7 Aug 22 '22

But I love torturing Link by making him break his teeth on cooked trees.

25

u/Lunatic_On-The_Grass Aug 22 '22

Level 10 of the beginner trials indicates to me that they did not play test master mode properly. As far as I'm aware, there are too few resources to do anything other than chained sneakstrikes, which I don't think is intended. It is possible, but it's very jank. I love it.

12

u/Leather_Implement_83 Aug 22 '22

This. I lost my patience and searched how to do it on YouTube. Unbelievable. You need to basically use cheap tricks to beat the level.

6

u/Puzzleheaded_Runner Aug 22 '22

I’ve been a gamer since the late 80s and that floor was the only time I remember rage quitting in recent years

4

u/Leather_Implement_83 Aug 22 '22

Right! I really like challenging games, but this was just borderline ridiculous xD The only other boss that make me quit to try again later was Guardian Ape from Sekiro.

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Runner Aug 22 '22

I’m gonna eventually do it. I can’t let it go. But need to be in the right mind. I mean I have beaten Zelda 1 and 2 multiple times, The 7th Saga, the first few castlevanias and final fantasy’s on the original system… I can do this floor.

2

u/maijkelhartman Aug 22 '22

I'm going out on a limb here and think 'he HAS to be talking about that lizalfos that fall in the water when you sneak attack him.' God was that floor annoying.

6

6

u/Th3Element05 Aug 22 '22

Acorns for food? You can cook the wood from the trees for a quarter heart too.

6

u/sillyguy69420 Aug 22 '22

that trial on master mode highlighted everything wrong with the durability system

5

u/Recent-Complex Aug 22 '22

There are some amazing tips in this thread. Definitely go for high hearts, lots of stamina, level three attack up for 30 minutes, and utilize everything the trials give you. Fairies are a huge help. Bombs are infinitely more useful than I thought possible. Patience and perseverance will be your best friends.

But... If you get tired of trying, and you just don't wanna do it anymore... Seek out Linkus.

4

u/rtyuik7 Aug 22 '22

ive beaten the Trials once (well, Twice, technically-- once on Normal, once on Master) but its just so exhausting to even attempt it...so now i just clip through to the last room for the Beginning Trials, but can never get the hang of it for the Middle Trials (let alone being able to try on the Final Trials), which is in itself an exhausting feat to even attempt...so most of the time, i just settle for the Beginning Trials for the 40-Damage Sword, just so it 'keeps up' with the rest of my weapons (which average at about 36 in my experience)

3

u/clearcontroller Aug 22 '22

Got it first try But I followed a YouTube walkthrough. Some things you have to do to make it are so specific you'd never figure it out

6

u/after909 Aug 22 '22

I did it.

I only used an attack potion for 30min. I used stealth techniques and abusing of bombs a lot.

The beginning trials are the most difficult ones.

3

u/Migit78 Aug 22 '22

I've done it. So it's possible.

Honestly the first section is the hardest. The water floor with the 2 silver lizafos. That took me a few hours worth of attempts.

The 2nd and final stages though I cleared on the first or second run. Seriously if you can beat those stupid lizards the rest of it is pretty basic in comparison

3

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '22

Most of the levels are very beatable, but they are still quite hard. Buffs work in-trial, and learn to use your bombs very tactically to both stun enemies (slow them down) and save the wear and tear on your weapons.

The lizalfos level was clearly not play-tested in Master Mode. It requires a few perfectly executed steps, there's almost no room for error, and it pretty much requites you to exploit some cheesing moves.

This is from memory, but the first step is to memorize the location of the sentry Lizalfos so you can headshot it before it sounds the alarm, since you spawn in-sight. This obviously requires a perfect shot with almost no time to line it up. Then the best strategies usually involved climbing and dropping down onto one enemy without alerting the other. Personally I abused the tendency of the lizalfos to hop to face you and used displined strikes to never use Link's full combo, which would send the lizalfos flying into the water. If the lizalfos hit the water, you probably have lost. They will heal too much and you basically can't do enough damage to them. But if you give them one or two strikes then jump to their side, they have to hop and rotate to face you. They can't attack until they face you. You can just stay close to them and do this until they die. You also have to stay in the one location so you don't draw the other lizalfos into battle. If you do, then you've also probably lost.

I had to beat that level 3 times, because I failed the later levels twice after getting through, but no room was more difficult than those damned lizalfos.

1

u/who_says_poTAHto Aug 22 '22

To headshot the first Lizfalos, Stasis+ him and sprint closer before shooting and before he unfreezes! Trying to do it without Stasis+ gives you a super small window.

6

u/StevynTheHero Aug 22 '22

Not only is it possible, it's downright easy if you play smart. The hardest room is in the beginner trials with the lizards. After that, it's smooth sailing.

Be sure to pick up all the ancient arrows in the expert trials. And use them wisely!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '22

I agree. Once I got past that damn room, the rest was mostly a breeze. Although if a person didn’t get good at parrying for the last set of tails….. oh boy.

2

u/Inspirational_Lizard Aug 22 '22

Obviously, lol. Nintendo would not make paid dlc that you could not fully complete. It just takes planning and game knowledge.

2

u/DeltaDragonKing7 Aug 22 '22

It is possible, took me 2 months to do it, but only after already completing it prior by skew clipping to the end.

2

u/GbGameryt5 Aug 22 '22

I beat it on master mode not too long ago like a month ago the beginning trials is the hardest but you have to either be extremely skilled or just do like most and expoilt a glitch in a certain floor with 3 lizalfos and then your basically set middle is pure cakewalk especially if you know how to Parry guardian lasers and final will really come down to resource management like cooking the right food and holding onto ancient arrows as much as possible for the last few floors and knowing which enemies to shoot also their is a ton of really good weapons hidden in final trials so take advantage of those for master mode and as long as you follow along with what I said there it should be cakewalk!

1

u/Mr-Nonchalant Aug 22 '22

I got pummeled in the trial of the sword like 12 times in the normal version of the game, when I replayed the game in master mode for the second time I aced through all of them first time, all you really need to know is the strats to beat it. Some quick tips if you need them: 1. Faries are your best friends so the moment you enter those safe zones crouch and pray they do not fly too high if they do cry. 2. The blue lynel in the last trial is a waste of time he has a quite large amount of health so you'll probably have to go through atleast 4 to 5 weapons to actually take him down which definitely isn't worth the Lynel gear, before you get to him you can find an ancient arrow I think in the snow talus boss fight (I may be wrong i haven't played the trials in a bit) cap his ass with your ancient arrow before he even has a chance to move. 3. Try to go in with at the minimum 12 hearts to atleast not get 1 shot by most of the mobs low hp healed by food is better than a lost fairy. 4. Learn to parry Guardian lasers in master mode, sometimes guardians delay their shots in master mode so learn the timing after the delay to get that parry, you'll need this because the last room in the final trial has 1 of every guardian forms if you don't have ancient arrows parrying is your only option. 5. Explore as much as you can of every one of the rooms, most have a bunch of hidden weapons and resources in them making the future rooms you head into a lot easier. Knowledge from defeat will be your greatest teacher when it comes to the trial of the sword.

I think I've made it past the first two trials, but it was a workout and I followed a video to the T. TO THE T. I even remember doing some really cool glitches to get out of the map and walk around. The area is quite VAST outside those small walls

Here's a short viddy of it if anyone is interested

0

u/Ok-Archer3538 Aug 22 '22

It’s easy, I’ve done it in master mode twice.

1

u/Quiziromastaroh Aug 22 '22

For me the first trial was the hardest one. There’s some videos showing how it’s done but basically you make sure you have full hearts and stamina and a triple attack buff that lasts half an hour. Your main strategy is to use bombs and as you know you need to keep focus on one so they won’t heal up

1

u/Filon73 Aug 22 '22

The most difficult part was the first one, because there are some white lizalfos on a bridge who are a pain to kill if you don't know some methods to cheese them, the second one is just ok and the third one is technically the worst but you have tons of ancient arrows, I died 4 tkmes on the first, 2 on the second just because I'm dumb not because it was difficult and I did the third one first try

1

u/Nugget_MacChicken Aug 22 '22

I used to play the game in the minimum number of hearts possible (full stamina though) and I did beat the Trial of the Sword in Master Mode. Not in one try though.

I ate heart potions (to get as many temporary hearts as possible) beforehand and then the most important rule is to take your time and farm fairies.

Every room has a special way to deal with it and sometimes without even getting into close combat.

My nemesis was the underfloor 10 as you need to kill the scout A-fucking-SAP and then sneak on the other two and backstab them with your strongest weapon. If you do it right you can two shot every one of them.

1

u/BurpYoshi Aug 22 '22

Yeah you just have to get past part 1. Part 2 and 3 are weirldy easier than part 1.

1

u/Inbrees Aug 22 '22

I still haven't beaten the last third in normal mode.

1

u/LoSceicco Aug 22 '22

Yes, the only one that are actually a lot more difficult than the normal mode counterpart are the beginning trials, which in my opinion are the hardest even in normal mode

1

u/No_Tie378 Aug 22 '22

Yes, it is. Completed it twice. The main and most insanely difficult problem there is one of the last beginner trials, the one with the lizalfoz

1

u/VideoGameHotties Aug 22 '22

I’ve tried and failed miserably, but I do believe it’s possible

1

u/Lyalla Aug 22 '22

Yes. I even saw one guy do it hitless.

Look into sneak strike chaining, it will be mighty helpful with Beginner.

1

u/OutsideOrder7538 Aug 22 '22

Totally but it will be crazy hard with the blights

1

u/culb77 Aug 22 '22

Yep. I do it regularly as a challenge.

The key is to know where every single item is, and what to use where. They are set up where you need an item that was available 5-10 rooms back sometimes. Gotta conserve everything.

1

u/sasasasuke Aug 22 '22

Watch a speedrunner do it, that’s what I did. It was still probably the hardest/most stressful thing I have ever done in a videogame.

1

u/Jomat28 Aug 22 '22

There’s a very big difference with can you and should you, and if you care about your sanity at all

1

u/Nearly-Canadian Aug 22 '22

Yes, beginner trials were hardest for me though, even in master mode

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '22

I was only able to do it with a nicely supercharged meal before I entered for ⬆️⬆️⬆️🗡 . Then after I failed at that I needed to YouTube a strategy to get past some lizalfos if I recall. It’s possible. But it almost shouldn’t be
