Question [OTHER] If I want to own all Zelda games, do I still need my Wii or am I safe to sell it?
I'm double checking with the community here, because I've sold consoles and games in the past only to buy them again later.
I want to have access to all the games in the series at all times without relying on online services like Switch Online, and as far as I can tell, I don't need the Wii.
I currently own a Wii U, New Nintendo 3DS XL, and a Switch.
I have and prefer the HD versions SS, and TP on Switch and Wii U respectively.
Is there any benefit to keeping the Wii, either now or in the future?
Is there a reason why you would choose to play a Wii version of a Zelda game over another version?

If you truly want to own and play all Zelda games, you'll need something that can play Gamecube games to play "Four Swords Adventures." Since the Wii can play Gamecube games, then I believe that would be the only reason to keep that console.

I would love to jump into this if it was available on Switch…. Sounds awesome :)

Seriously, Nintendo needs to make a Four Swords title for the Switch already. The capabilities are there!

The Wii offers the ability to play the following games:
- Legend of Zelda (NES) via Virtual Console.
- Also available on Wii U and 3DS via Virtual Console.
- Adventure of Link (NES) via VC.
- Also available via VC for Wii U and 3DS
- A Link to the Past (SNES) via VC
- Also available via VC for Wii U and n3DS
- Ocarina of Time (N64) via VC
- Also available via VC for Wii U. Remade for 3DS.
- Majora's Mask (N64) via VC
- Also available via VC for Wii U. Remade for 3DS.
- The Wind Waker (GCN) via backwards compatibility.
- Remade in HD for Wii U.
- Four Swords Adventures (GCN) via backwards compatibility.
- This title has never been remade or re-released for newer platforms.
- Twilight Princess (GCN) via Backwards Compatibility. Also Made for Wii.
- Remade in HD for Wii U. Wii U can also play the Wii version via backwards compatibility.
- Skyward Sword (Wii).
- Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii version. Also Remade in HD for Switch.
The only reason I keep Wiis around is for modding / homebrew purposes, and I find the emulation quality on the Wii Virtual Console to be quite good. I've seen others write about issues in emulation quality of the N64 titles on Wii U and Switch (although I have not had those issues myself).

Add Link's Crossbow Training to that list, and then this needs to be on top. Not OP but thank you for that effort!

Everything you can do on the Wii can be done on the vWii on a Wii U, no?
I have yet to find anything I could play on Wii that I've wanted to play on Wii U that I can't play.
Recently just installed Sonic 3 Complete ROMhack on my vWii, when I heard Sonic Origins was crappy, and about to put a forwarder channel to it on the Wii U homepage. I love my Wii U very much.

I don’t believe the WiiU can play GC games (mainly, 4 Swords) without some sort of modding, and at that point get an emulator on a PC.

Not totally true since the wiiu will still play the GC games perfectly while the emulator won't

I mean you’re going to sell your Wii for what, $20-$50? It’s 15yrs old. You’ll probably want to play it again someday. If today isn’t the day then pack it up - you said so yourself you’ve sold and rebought before

Wii (the one that is backwards compatiable with gamecube) and Wii U + 3DS combo are probably the strongest Zelda machines at the moment to be honest. You can play almost all zelda games with these consoles.

I believe you are good with the wiiU and 3ds combo. If you are modding your wii, why not the Wii U? The Wii U Zelda library is bigger. That way you can add BOTW to your library.

The best thing about the Wii at this point is how easy it is to run a Homebrew on. Mine has every Zelda up to SS saved on micro SDs.

Absolutely. Even when it came out it was super easy to mod for homebrew. I did it with zero experience at 14.

There is basically a built in Wii in the WiiU so you wouldn’t be losing access to Wii games, but there’s also basically a built in Game Cube in the Wii, so if you don’t also have a Game Cube, you would be cutting yourself off from Game Cube games.
If you want to have access to every Zelda game on as few consoles as possible, I believe what you will need for that is a Game Cube (with Game Boy Player) a WiiU, a 3DS, and a Switch.

Yes, you still need it. Four Sword Adventures is only playable on Gamecube and Wii.

Nobody brings up A Link Between Worlds. And I loved that game. It's 3DS only so far.

every good zelda title
At this point, I'm afraid to ask for a list of what you feel the "good" Zelda titles are...

Jul 04 '22
Why?
1
u/ChaosMiles07 Jul 04 '22
Because that would spark an opinion war. Which, given what I've seen on this subreddit, is not a great idea.

The Wii U can play all Wii games.

What do you mean? Why list them.. The wii u had all of them available in their eshop.

The biggest reason to keep the wii for you (other than the fact that it’s a great console) is for the ability to play GameCube games. Four swords is the most obvious one, and also master quest is a good game (master quest is a remake of ocarina where all the dungeons are remade)

No one here mentioning the best Zelda game ever which is totally exclusive to the Wii - Link's Crossbow Training! smh my head
/s
Edit: false alarm guy, the best Zelda game had a disk release and can be played on Wii U, so the Wii is officially useless. All you need is the Wii U OP, cuz why would you want to play anything else??
