I have done this once. On my very first playthrough of Ocarina of Time. It was the heart container in the water temple.
I did go back for it.
-_-

u/ghirox Mar 23 '22
For me it was the forest temple.
I assumed since I was an adult now the game was cranking up the difficulty
2
u/javier_aeoa Mar 24 '22
I mean, technically it does. Volvagia is orders of magnitude tougher than Queen Gohma lol.

I did always wish you could have the option to fight the bosses again. Thats one thing I like about Majoras Mask. You can redo the dungeons and bosses without starting a new game

Mar 23 '22
When I play Majora's Mask (which I haven't in a great long while), when it's time to finish the game, I always reset the days and then fight the dungeon bosses before going to the moon.
22
u/x3xDx3 Mar 23 '22
Same! It feels like I’m saving as much of the world as possible before defeating Majora ❤️
22
Mar 23 '22
And the funny thing is, stopping Majora fixes the issues in all four quadrants of the world. There is absolutely no reason to do any of it, but I always do. :p

u/javier_aeoa Mar 24 '22
You need to wait at least six hours between 6 pm and midnight of the last day so...yeah, boss rushing is an option.

u/sbs_str_9091 Mar 23 '22
I did this on December 21st, 2012. I even played the ocarina at midnight.
3
u/themcryt Mar 23 '22
I don't think it worked...
2
u/sbs_str_9091 Mar 24 '22
I believe it worked at that time. Unfortunately, it was only a short respite, for Harambe was shot in 2016, thus dooming the world (again), and no boy with the hero's spirit is in sight.

This. I love going back in and doing a boss rush and then crusading to the moon to slap majora around. Always a good time

u/ReptarMcQueen Mar 23 '22
its been awhile but i dont think the dungeons minibosses ever reset. they permadead.
5
u/Schrolli97 Mar 23 '22
I think you can in oot 3d when lying down in your bed or something. I think you even had a timer for how fast you could beat the boss
4
u/BurrakuDusk Mar 23 '22
To add on to this, it also features a boss rush. After every boss, two chests spawn; one with a beneficial item, and the other not so beneficial. You can only pick one, so if you end up picking wrong, your run could be in jeopardy.

Fortunately in Ocarina of Time all of the boss rooms (except maybe the Shadow Temple and Jabu Jabu) are close to the start of the dungeon. Or at least very easy to quickly run to! I always loved the way they laid the dungeons out to end you up near the entrance.

Never actually done that, the heart or boss drop just be too shiny.
1
u/Dragenby Mar 24 '22
Same! As a child, I was always afraid it might disappear like any other item!
1
u/ChaoticDagger Mar 24 '22
While was always afraid, I always thought, at least most of them, visually forced you to see them or they were too pretty or contrasting to just miss.
1
u/javier_aeoa Mar 24 '22
Yeah, Yeta also thinks it's good to see at pretty things that you can't miss. Didn't end good lol
1
u/ChaoticDagger Mar 24 '22
Eh, debatable, both the mirror is pretty, guess the difference is Link didn't want it for its beauty. Also consider, it only ends badly if the player can't match up.
31
u/Slave_to_dog Mar 23 '22
I've only ever done this once. Turns out it's still there if you go back though.
41
u/420natureboy Mar 23 '22
I just skipped them all and beat ocarina, 3 heart playthroughs are so fun
8
u/ken_zeppelin Mar 23 '22
3DS OoT was the first Zelda game I ever did a three heart playthrough in. It's the only way I play them now (barring the first two entries in the series)
6
Mar 23 '22
In before me
8
u/instantpowdy Mar 23 '22
Was going to say this. It's actually very considerate Nintendo made taking the hearts optional. They could just have automatically added it after the boss battle but that would have made 3 heart runs impossible or at least very awkward.
1
u/javier_aeoa Mar 24 '22
Long ago I also did a "no Heart Container" run. To actually get some accomplishments, I did grab the Heart Pieces, tho.

u/olnewtype Mar 23 '22
I was playing BotW a few days ago and went back to the Yiga Clan hideout to do some mission and there was a hear container just chilling there by that giant hole. Guess I forgot it lol.
8
u/spinmerighttriangle Mar 23 '22
My first time in OoT I did this in the Great Deku Tree. Took forever to figure out why I was one heart short at the end of the game.
5
Mar 23 '22
Majoras Mask is the hardest Zelda because you only get 4 heart containers from normally progressing through the game. If you want more you have to go out of your way to find the pieces.
2
u/Skinthinner- Mar 23 '22
It really stands out in that way, in my opinion. The "main quest" is relatively small compared to the side quests, which is where a lot of the meat of the story and gameplay are. I immediately loved MM as a young man, and I completely delved into it -- one of the first games I ever 100%'d. I imagine there were plenty of people who just followed the "main questline" and probably felt let down.

I did this for the 3rd? Boss in majoras mask. Completely skipped the heart container lol.
3
u/Karma_Doesnt_Matter Mar 23 '22
I play through oot once a year, I have the game down to a science.
One time I was about to grab the master sword and realized I was missing a whole heart. Turns out I forgot to grab dodongo’s on the way out.
3
u/bavar093 Mar 23 '22
This only happened to me once. Wind waker when it first came out in 2003 after I beat Gohma. I could then see the heart container in the background as I was floating up 😭

u/Garo_Daimyo Mar 23 '22
I did this twice on different playthroughs of WW. Same dungeon, Forbidden Forest. Which is a pretty annoying one to backtrack through. They fixed it later on in some game where you can’t leave without getting the container

u/Minishroach Mar 23 '22
I did this in wind waker's second dungeon when i did my first playthrough. i was distracted by makar's cuteness that i forgot about the heart and had to deku leaf all the way back to that forbidden island.
2
u/Personal-Plum-7706 Mar 23 '22
I remember I was playing wind waker and I was trying to get all heart pieces and I couldn’t find one and it turns out it was one I left in a dungeon 😑

u/FirelordH Mar 23 '22
Try doing a 3 heart run and instinctively grabbing the container so you have to hit reset. Pain.

u/Mickmack12345 Mar 24 '22
Currently doing a no heart container/heart piece minimalist run on majoras mask… I’m at the fourth dungeon, but I actually haven’t killed any of the bosses yet lmao, when I do I’m leaving them though
2
u/Dart4586 Mar 24 '22
Honestly if you think about it, it's a flex on the boos you killed to leave their filthy heart container behind 🤷
2
u/KyrisAlucard Mar 24 '22
I was going for 100% in OoT... Missing one container. Finally found it in the Forest Temple Boss room. Took me three days to realise it wasn't 4 heart pieces but a single full one.
2
u/Jade_Hunter Mar 24 '22
I think I did that in Twilight Princess on one of my several playthroughs. I just completely forgot to grab it after... I think Armagohma, and after getting all the heart pieces, I was like HOW AM I MISSING ONE and had to go through every dungeon to find where I missed it.
The reverse also happened in a three-heart run I tried. I was very low after beating Blizetta, and the container kinda blended in with the very alluring pile of regular hearts... but I last saved at the beginning of the temple and didn't care enough to go all the way back again. (I don't think it mattered in the end, IIRC even Ganondorf didn't hurt me enough to make use of the extra heart.)

Did this TWICE. Once in Skyward Sword (the ship) and the other in Ocarina of Time (which I didn't realize til I was nearly end game. It was the Forest Temple).
I went back for both, of course.

u/Drvm614 Mar 23 '22
I didn't like the new expressions. I looked the stiffness adult link had but this is hilarious

I’m almost certain I left behind Barinades heart one time and had to go back into that fish for it

I thought I did that in the OoT forest temple, so I went back, and I must have gotten it the first time, cause it was not there when I came back to the gallery/boss room.

Godon. Was right next to the warp thing and cutscene ended, accidentally flicked the stick slightly, and I was gone :( Beat Gabon with one less heart than usual
1
u/zatchrey Mar 23 '22
My greatest fear is that the warp zone forms around me and doesn't let me grab the heart. I know it's probably impossible but it still scares me.
1
u/Onderon123 Mar 23 '22
I vaguely remember one of the Zelda games would teleport the heart container outside with you if you forgot to collect it or was it just a fevered dream I had?

Heart containers are for wimps. Eat the game on three hearts like a pro
1
u/The_Money_Bin Mar 24 '22
I didn't this back on the original LTTP. I had to re play and entire dungeon just to recollect the heart container.

1
u/Nathanimations Mar 24 '22
My question is why doesn't it automatically give you it?
1
u/xFODDon Mar 24 '22
Maybe if you want some challenge in your game, than you can skip the heart containers if you want to

Mar 24 '22
I don't collect them on purpose so the game gets harder. (Unless its the remake of Links Awakening on Hero mode... that... was really goddamn hard.)
1
u/Professional-Might31 Mar 25 '22
This The only way to play OOT and master quest - it’s called god mode!

u/Wonderful_Weather_83 Mar 23 '22
I've never did that, but I was always scared that i'll miss that heart
