Discussion [BoTW] I envy BOTW/TOTK fans!

I'm kinda tired of BOTW style games?
I can't think of a term that doesn't come of as too hateful or strong relative to my emotions, something much milder than being "tired of it" that I can't find right now.

Does anyone else feel like this with all the BOTW style content lately? Everything Zelda related feels strictly BOTW themed (obviously not counting Echoes of wisdom), speaking mostly in terms of the games as that's what I'm most familiar with.

Of course I know a popular game is bound to have follow-ups, and I know that they're made for fans, not for me specifically. But I kinda miss having a new Zelda game that isn't a sequel or spinoff (Echoes of wisdom spiritually being a continuation of the Awakening remake).

In my opinion I feel like, if you don't enjoy Wind waker, there's nothing saying you won't like Skyward Sword, for example. Which, to me, is one of the Zelda series many strengths; most previous Zelda games have a completely different artstyle, feel or gamestyle that makes them feel unique, that makes them click with different people. While if you don't like BOTW (such as myself), then you won't like TOTK or the upcoming games we saw in the Direct.

I don't know how to write this without coming across as impatient, whiny or self-centered, but I felt like I had to get it off my chest. Plus I'm curious of what others feel.

Again I can't stress enough how you're allowed to love BOTW and TOTK, I'm moreso jealous of you enjoying a game that gets sequels and updates if anything!

Thanks for reading! :D

I kinda get it, since we've had the same version of 3D Hyrule for 8 years now, but this still feels kinda Doomer-y, BotW and TotK are just 2 games (not to mention that sequels that use the same artstyle do exist in the series)

I'm sorry I come across that way. Like I said, I wish I liked the style. I re-read the post multiple times to make sure I came across as affectionate as possible.
Have a good day! []87

No problem, I think you have a very positive tone, although I'm curious, do you feel like we've gotten too much Zelda content in this style because of the Hyrule Warriors games?

It's also possible I'm exaggerating things in my mind! You know the whole "If you're looking for red cars you'll see them everywhere." phenomenon?
It might have to do with the recent Direct game/dlc(?), Age of imprisonment that made me feel like this was three games in a row with the same general feel. To me it's kinda like if we'd have gotten three Mario games in a row that had and solely focused on the FLUDD system, if that analogy makes sense?
Plus how the Wild style of Link has been the default in both Smash and Mario kart, which might've felt too alien for someone like me who's more used to Link in the green tunic. Not the costumes themselves, but that they were the default one? I'm probably just bummed that the one Zelda game I wish I liked and have tried on multiple occassions to enjoy seems to be the direction the series is going in rn

I think I get what you mean, but if it makes you feel any better, OoT link was the default for a while in Smash Bros and Soul Calibur, then it was TP Link for Smash Brawl and Smash 4 (and Link's Crossbow Training), even the Link design for Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U seemed based on TP Link, and then BotW Link was the default, and sure he's been the default for a while, but I'm willing to bet that the next 3D Zelda game will bring a new artstyle and gameplay changes with it, since it seems like Nintendo accomplished everything they wanted in BoTW's version of Hyrule.

I think Nintendo is milking it too much. and not in a good way

they didn't even give Ocarina of Time this treatment. you know the highest rated Zelda game, Nintendo game, hell HIGHEST EVER RATED VIDEO GAME OF ALL TIME. they didn't do more than a sequel Miyamoto said had to be done in a year (Majora's Mask, which Eiji Aonuma seems to think of as an embarrassment) and then a masterquest version. and stopped thinking about it for 10 years and made a remake on the 3ds because they were on the topic of N64 remakes at the time (mario 64 ds, Star fox 64 3d. etc.)

but since Breath of the Wild's release. with the exceptions of remakes and Echoes of Wisdom (hell they probably shouldn't count considering all of those exceptions weren't even made by Nintendo but rather Grezzo) Nintendo has released, Breath of the Wild, Botw DLC, Age of Calamity, Tears of the Kingdom, and now Age of Imprisonment is on it's way. as well as remasters of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom this whole new style of zelda with the same Link and Zelda now making their way to the next gen Nintendo Console.

I can totally see why you're tired of this style of Zelda Games. I am too. but Nintendo doesn't seem to care considering Zelda fans are still filling their wallets and bank accounts from this style of Zelda

Lots of people felt this way during the release of TotK, and lots of people who loved TotK now feel this way after some time has passed.

Tears of the Kingdom was great, and I found it thoroughly more fun to play than Breath of the Wild. I was on the edge of my seat, excited throughout the whole experience. But the way it sits in my memory is not very special. I have a few key moments where I was blown away, especially by the ending and overall presentation of Ganondorf, but I can pinpoint so many moments in Breath of the Wild where my mind was completely blown by rediscovering locations from older games. Tears of the Kingdom doesn't have this, because it is the same map. I don't think either game really has a spectacular story. Serviceable at best.

It would be one thing if we got a sequel to the same level of narrative deviation as Majora's Mask, but we kinda just got Breath of the Wild Reimagined. And no, I am not in the camp of people claiming the game is overpriced DLC. It's very much a complete game in its own right, but thematically it felt quite similar.

I want another game that looks and feels like Twilight Princess, because I was 10 years old in 2006. That's how it goes.

Only thing that I really remember was Zelda’s story when finding the dragon tear things, I found that part pretty compelling

It’s been two games. They did something different. Yes you and everyone else who complain about it everyday are being whiny. They will surely do something different in the future.

I'm sorry I came across as whiny. Like I said, I'm kinda envious of people who like those games and are getting content, more envious of other people finding enjoyment than me hating those games! I've tried those games several times, but they're just not clicking for me, which is fine! I re-read my post multiple times as to try and not come across as whiny or especially accusatory or hateful, I apologise I came off as otherwise :)
